“SEICAA is dedicated to providing

opportunity and for individuals and

communities to thrive and reach their

fullest potential, promoting self-sufficiency

and greater economic independence

through services, education, affordable

housing, and training.”

Community Unites to Improve

Shelter for veterans

SEICAA’S FLZ shelter has provided shelter

and housing stability to military veterans

since 1994. Residents receive intensive

case management, support, and referrals,

so they can begin the process of adjusting

to civilian life. SEICAA operates the shelter

with limited and restrictive funding that

maintain safe living standards, but not any

additional funding for cosmetic

improvements.

In June 2012, Home Depot and the local

Marine Corps League approached SEICAA

about a partnership opportunity to win

$25,000 that could be used for

renovations. The Marine Corps League,

SEICAA, and Chubbuck/Pocatello Home

Depot promoted involvement in a Face-

book contest to win $25,000 in Home

Depot gift cards to help renovate the FLZ

Veteran Shelter. Mem-

bers of the Marine

Corps League, Home

Depot, and SEICAA

walked in Chubbuck

Days Parade, handing

out instructional flyers

on how to vote for the

project. Thanks to

community support,

the project won the

August contest.

Home Depot provided $25,000 of gift

cards to purchase supplies and the

community provided the volunteers to

complete the renovation. Over 150

volunteers put in approximately 200 hours

of work to improve the shelter.

Improvements included a completely

remodeled kitchen and common room,

new storage, fresh paint throughout and

new flooring. Volunteers included Home

Depot, SEICAA, Marine Corps League,

Junior Civitans, ISU Armed Forces Club,

and members of the community.

Additional support for feeding volunteers

included Starbucks, Butterburrs, Ruby

Tuesdays, and Shaver Pharmacy. Best

Western Cotton Tree Inn also donated

rooms for Veterans to stay in while major

renovations took place.

SLEDS MOTORCYCLE CLUB

SLEDS (Santa Loves Every Donation Shared), a local motorcycle club, held the annual Toy-Run to raise funds and toys for children in need. More than 100 motorcycle enthusiasts gathered on the grounds of city hall to give gifts and Santa hats to children. SLEDS raised and donated $2500.

SHOP-WITH-A-COP

For the fourth year, Shopko hosted the annual “Shop-with-a-Cop.”

Police officers from agencies throughout southeast Idaho volunteered

their time to make this day special for participating children. The event

included a free breakfast provided by McDonald’s, followed by a ride

to the Pine Ridge Mall in police cars. Mr. & Mrs. Claus arrived by helicopter and greeted the children. The 85

young shoppers were paired with officers to buy gifts for family members. This event fosters a positive

memorable activity for children with local law enforcement officers.

Shopko and local law enforcement held

fundraisers throughout the year and raised

nearly $13,000 for the shopping day. Local

businesses contributing to this event

included Shopko, McDonald’s, Lava Hot

Springs Swimming Complex, and Utah

Helicopter.

Bannock Civitan raised toys through the Bowling for Toys event to assist with their annual Civitan Christmas Party held at SEICAA’s St. Anthony Place. The group hosted over 250 children from throughout southeast Idaho. Bannock Civitan also took teenagers on a snowmobile party following the morning’s gifting activity.

PAINTFEST 2012

In July SEICAA’S Weatherization and other staff participate to make a difference in the community. This year 11 staff members participated in Paintfest.

Parade of Lights

SEICAA’s Weatherization Program par-ticipates in the Parade of Lights every year to promote community awareness about the program. In 2012 SEICAA’s float won the “Best Non-Profit Award.”

SEICAA’s Executive Director, Deb Hemmert, was

nominated by staff for the Idaho State Journal’s

Business Award in Non-Profit Management. Her

strong leadership keep the agency moving

forward and responding to the needs of the low

-income population. According to her staff, Deb “is a leader that

provides her staff with the tools they need to best serve SEICAA

participants.” Deb was selected by the Idaho State Journal to

receive the award in October 2012.

SEICAA’s Development Coordinator, Lynette

Sampson, received designation as a

Certified Community Action Professional in

August. The rigorous program recognizes

achievement in the Community Action field.

SEICAA Wraps-Up a Successful Season of

Fundraisers

SEICCA Bannock County hosted the 24th annual Stone Soup at ISU’s SUB in Octo-ber. Third grade students from Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 elementary schools enacted the Stone Soup story.

winner was from Washington Elementary. Stone Soup attendees voted for their favorite soup and Café Tuscano took first place.

SEICAA g ives spec ia l recognition to two busi-nesses/organizations each year for their support of the Agency’s mission. In 2012 Fort Hall Casino received the Friend of SEICAA award and Idaho Central Credit Union received the 2012 SEICAA Business Partner of the Year award. Thank you to both businesses for your generous support!

SEICAA hosted the Bingham County Stone Soup fundraiser at Mountain View Middle S c h o o l i n O c t o b e r . Congratulations to the soup vendors that were selected as the favorites by those in attendance: 1st- Rupe’s, 2nd- Kesler’s Market & 3rd- Bahia Community. Thank you to everyone who participated, sponsored, volunteered & the Bingham County community for their support of this event!

SEICAA’s Bear Lake Office hosted the “Golfing fore Families” charity golf tournament in September. This popular tournament quickly sold-out and had a waiting list for participation. Staff, volunteers, sponsors, and golfers enjoy the morning spent golfing for a great cause. The funds raised through “Golfing fore Families” assist Bear Lake County residents with emergency services needs.

SEICAA’s Preston County’s “Golfing fore Green” raised funds on a beautiful Saturday in August. The 2012 Title Sponsor was Lundhal

Ironworks. All the proceeds from the golf tournament remain in Franklin County and are used for emergency services as needed.

Project Warmth celebrated over 23 years of golfing success in Caribou County. The Project Warmth Commit-

tee did a great job with planning and raising funds to be used in Caribou County. We look forward to many more years!

RSVP Volunteer Banquet

In October SEICAA recognized the good work and efforts of the over 400 volunteers in the

RSVP Program. “Hats” was the theme of the festivities and attendees were very creative. SEICAA appreciates the thousands of hours donated by RSVP volunteers!

Two More Graduate IDA Program

SEICAA’s Individual Development Account (IDA) Program successfully graduated two individuals. SEICAA would

like to congratulate Jane* and Amy* on their home purchases. SEICAA’s IDA Program provides extensive

financial literacy training, case management, and matched savings to help individuals reach self-sufficiency

goals. SEICAA’s IDA Program receives support from several community partners like the United Way and the

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Assets for Independence Program.

Business Support SEICAA would like to thank US BanCorp for their support of Project Warmth and their first

-time support of SEICAA’s Financial Literacy Program. SEICAA would also like to thank Bank of America for their generous continuation of support for the Housing Counseling Program. SEICAA appreciates the support of financial literacy as it is a cornerstone to assisting individuals becoming self-sufficient.

In November Chubbuck Wal-Mart staff volunteered their time on a highway clean-up project along on the stretch of Pocatello Creek Road near the Red Lion Hotel. Wal-Mart employees, friends, and family volunteered their time resulting in Wal-Mart donating to the charity of their choice. Thanks to the employees for s e l e c t i n g SEICAA and for their efforts resulting in a $1,000 donation.

SEICAA is fortunate to be the recipient of

donations throughout the year. We would like to

thank all the individuals, Boy Scouts, students,

and community and civic organizations that hold

collection drives for various items that SEICAA

distributes as needed.
