What is OLLI?The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) brings together curious people who want to learn for the love of it - no grades, no tests, just fun! OLLI aims to engage the mind, stimulate the senses, and foster learning through an affordable program of classes, travel, lectures, films and active learning opportunities.

Classes are offered in the fall, winter, and spring of each academic year and span a broad range of interests from history and current events to creative arts and other mind-expanding topics. OLLI instructors are a mix of university professors, peer enthusiasts, and experts in their fields. We would love to have you join us!

OLLI classroom (#108) is located at University Center (UC) in Sioux Falls at 4701 N. Career Avenue, in the Science & Technology Building, on the SW corner of UC campus. OLLI offices are also in this building. Classes may also be held at the classroom building, 4801 N. Career Avenue (University Center-Admin. Bldg. on the NW corner of campus). Avera Hall is located near the front door in the University Center-Admin. Bldg. Parking at UC is free to OLLI members; please use the orange OLLI parking permit (which can be requested from our office). If you park illegally you may receive a ticket (parking longer than 2 hours in posted “2 hour visitor parking” lot or parking in handicapped or “state car only” parking spaces).

Many people have understood Martin Luther’s thought and theology as a milestone for our understanding of religious freedom in the modern world. In this course, we will look at Luther’s concept of freedom and how it shaped people’s lives 500 years ago – and still shapes our lives today. Labyrinth RoomExplore different yoga poses, linking a gentle yoga flow movement with your breath. Learn pose variations to take with you to other yoga classes, being true to the flexibility, range of movement, and strength in your own body. Ravelry is THE website for a variety of fiber arts. It’s a resource for the fiber community, even if the user never puts anything into it. It’s changed the industry and has connected people worldwide. Learn how to use the website to enhance your craft. Limit: 20

Civil War Campaigns in Dakota Territory – 1 session with Bill HoskinsMonday Sept 25 3-5:00p Old Courthouse Museum

The Civil War, while fought on the battlefields of the east coast and in the south, touched every state in the nation. This course covers the impact of the War on a national level, while highlighting campaigns in South Dakota. The class will also have an opportunity to examine authentic artifacts from the War. Each week the class will view one episode from the PBS series Shakespeare Uncovered and then follow the viewing with discussion of the video and the play it treats. The plays covered will be The Taming of the Shrew, Romeo and Juliet, and Othello. The PBS series combines history, biography, and iconic performances. Our own discussion will build on these elements and introduce additional ideas about the plays and their importance to us. We will begin with The Taming of the Shrew.
