purposes? Since 2007s Atlanta Passion Conerence, college studentshave answered that question with more than $592,000 to und Bible

translations impacting over 2.5 million people in nine language groups!

April 13 in Fort Worth,Texas, Passion 2011 will draw thousands ostudents rom throughout the nation, ofering them an opportunity to

deepen their relationship with Jesus. Many also will hear about Bible

poverty or the rst time and take back the OneVerse challenge to their

campuses, youth groups or congregations.

Linda was amazed to learn the Sawi people saw

Judas as the hero in his betrayal of Jesus. Because

they idealized and plotted treachery as a way of life,

they considered Jesus weak. But God, in His mercy,

revealed ruth to them in a way they could under-

stand. Peace between the warring Sawi clans could

only be achieved through the gift of a peace child.

Te Sawi chiefs had to exchange a child to be raised

by the enemy tribe. As long as that child lived,

there would be peace.

Linda realized how Jesus was Gods gift to bring

peace between Himself and sin-stained humanity.

Right then, Linda knew she wanted to spend her

life introducing people to Gods Peace Child.

I saw how great our God is, Linda said. He

loves those people I saw in that movie. She then

made a commitment that became her lifes motiva-

tion: Lord, let me study as high as I can so that I

can teach them and help them have better lives.

Before her college graduation, Linda again

prayed, Lord, please use me among tribal people.

With no idea how to contact a mission agency,

Linda went to the yellow pages of the local phone

book. She made calls, gathered information and

started moving toward Gods calling. As she made

connections and gained more training and exposure

to missions, the Lord led her to Bible translation.

Linda had found her niche.

I realized that He wanted me to help trai

equip ministers, consult in Bible translation

help the mother-tongue translators.

Linda has already participated in three tra

tion projects in Southeast Asia, by helping t

mother-tongue translators and checking th

drafts. Shes also taken specialized linguisti

courses related to Bible translation and lear

translation-related software that she will tr

others to use. Her academic preparation will

Lisa, a translator in a sensi-ve project in Asia, was raiseda traditional home. I thought

veryone was like us, knowing theational language well. I reasonedat doing Bible translation was

waste of time.

Tat changed during her rstar of college, when Lisa agreed

ut of curiosity to help check theanslation of the Book of Genesisher heart language. Growing

p, I thought I didnt have a goodemory. I stayed after schoolrecite my lessons because Iuldnt remember them. But

hile I was helping check Gen-is, I could retell long passagester listening only once in myother tongue.

Tat experience totallyhanged my attitude toward Bibleanslation. I realized the signi-

A Chain of Prayers andBible ranslation Continues

In spite of severe warning,missionaries Jenny and Frankbegan planting a church amongthe reputedly erce Yazai peopleof Southeast Asia in the 1930s.Recognizing the need for Scripture

in the mother tongue, the couple devised an alphabetand translated the Gospel of Mark. Just three

years into their ministry, Frank died oftyphus and Jenny returned home. Tough

she left the Yazai, the Yazai never leftJennys heart and for 60 years sheprayed for the Yazai. In 1997, a SIL

International translator and two

Yazai brothers formed a translation committeand Te Seed Company partnered with them iproject. Tough Jenny died in 2003, her prayehave continued bearing fruit.

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place.

When he finished, one of his disciples said to

him, Lord, teach us to pray Luke 11:1a

Jesus had just nished praying. And the disciples had been watching Him.

Their observation led to curiosity, and curiosity created a desire to

learn, to grow, to experience what Jesus experienced. So they asked

Him to teach them to train them to pray.

It serves as a reminder to me as a young father that when I pray, two

little guys are watching me too. What do they observe? Are they

curious? Do they have a desire to learn, to grow, to experience whatI experience in prayer?

Maybe all they need is an invitation.

So Im challenging myself to invite them. I encourage you to begin

inviting your children or grandchildren to join you. Share about the

people group for whom youre praying. Explain that these people dont

have the Bible in their language, and tell them about the team working

to translate Gods Word for this people group.

Then pray together. As you do, listen to their prayers and observe.

You (and I) just might learn something.
