  • 1. The College of Education Diversity Committee at the University of Iowa Phyllis Yager Memorial Diversity Teaching Grant Award.

2. A short book of 88 pages about immigrants who live in close proximity to each other in the inner city of Cleveland. They take an abandoned lot and develop a garden. 3. Through this endeavor they become engaged with each other and their cultures. 4. A few of the classes 5. After learning some background of the author, setting and characters we read the book. then we started some projects. 6. We explored our own cultures, families and origins 7. Students blogged with other students 8. We posted displays 9. Students drew designs about one of the characters 10. Each one unique 11. Then they moved the design to fabric 12. This colorful quilt will hang in the Middle School Library 13. Another project Students worked with the art department to design fence posts depicting each character to decorate our elementary garden 14. The Anderson Elementary Garden These will add great color and interest to the garden. 15. As a character in the book shares. 16. THANK YOU For the opportunity to introduce this special book to so many students. This is not the only year that we will use the Seedfolks title as a small way to promote diversity and understanding of all peoples. 17.
