See What You Need to See!!!
Enhanced Vision Systems ®
This is an EVS-1500 FLIR
Enhanced Vision Systems ®
A Situational Awareness Tool:
• Enhances day & night operational safety
• Employs a single long-wave infrared sensor (FLIR)
• Dual field of view (53 WFOV, 30 NFOV) improves situational awareness and hazard identification in the air and on the ground
• High reliability: > 15,000 hours MTBF
• Very light weight: < 2.3 kg
• Low power (7 amp C/B)
Enhanced Vision Systems ®
Why do you need EVS ?
– Lost Situational Awareness
– Unfamiliar Approaches & Terrain
– Marginal Weather / ATC Services
• Controlled Flight Into Terrain
– Unfamiliar Airports and Landing Sites
– Breakdown in ATC / Ground Communication
– Improper Runway / LZ Identification
– Obstacles
Incidents often caused by someone else’s mistake.
• Runway and LZ Incursions
Enhanced Vision Systems ®
Why do you need EVS ?
– The principal cause of helicopter accidents worldwide ….. Period !!!
• Inadvertent Flight into IMC
Enhanced Vision Systems ®
Why Fly With an EVS
• You can see in the dark of night
• You can see through smoke
• You can see through dust
• You can see through fog, smog & haze
• You can see the airport
• You can see the helipad
• You might survive
Up to 10 times improved vision
Enhanced Vision Systems ®
How Does This EVS Work ?
• The array size is 320 x 240 individual sensors
= 76,800 detectors
• Detectors sense temp change < 1/10th deg C
• Each detector images one point in space, and creates a gray scale dot on its designated pixels on the LCD
• Higher intensity IR = brighter dots on the video screen !
On your monitor …
Enhanced Vision Systems ®
You Will See a Man or an A/C or a Target
Darkness with the naked eye … a target with EVS…
