Night-time Opportunist Thefts Over the last few weeks the village has experienced a couple of thefts from outside homes during the early hours. One incident involved theft of a bike and the other theft of trade tools from a van.

There have also been reports of the occasional vehicle, cars and vans, touring the village during the night. Again it seems obvious these people are looking for easy targets for theft.

Whilst crime levels nationally and locally are low, probably due to ‘lockdown’, items in poorly secured sheds and left out at night may be seen as easier and more attractive options for thieves.

Our local Neighbourhood police team say that this trend is not yet reflected in the latest reported crime figures. However, not all incidents are reported and there is an inevitable delay in recording crimes.

Please stay alert and report anything suspicious either via myself or the police on ‘101’ (‘999’ if a crime is in progress)

PLEASE NOTE It’s very important to report crimes as otherwise rural communities may not be given the required level of resourcing they deserve.

Overhanging Hedges and Trees

There are several hedges and trees in the village where it is difficult or impossible to negotiate the pavements, especially with a pushchair. Please could you make sure your vegetation is kept under control and compliant with the law. The Highways Act 1980 states that it is the legal responsibility of the owner/occupier of the property to ensure that the ‘public highway’ adjacent to the property is not obstructed by

vegetation from their property. For more information go to https://www.gardeningdata.co.uk/shrubs/hedges_and_roads/hedge_trim_highway.php
