What is Section Navigator

Section Navigator is a Native Joomla 1.5 extension, which helps the user to navigate through all the

sections of the website. While doing navigation, the administrator has full control of what to display

and what not in sections/categories/articles. Apart from this there are loads of other options at back-endwhich make Section Navigator a unique choice.

Installing the component

Here are the steps to installing the component:

1. Login to the admin panel.

2. Click on Extensions->Install/Uninstall. And You See as below:

3. Choose the desired file to install using Browse button.. E.g com_sectionnavigatorpro.zip. And

click on

Upload file & Installbutton..

4. After you finish the installation, you see the message Install Component Success message as

below:

Verifying the Installation

Just point your mouse to Components in top menu and you see sectionnavigatorpro written in the

menu. This indicates that the component is installed. Further you click on that and you see basic

introduction to the Section Navigator. Just see the picture below:

Using Section Navigator

The steps are as below:

1. Point mouse to the Menus item in top menu and click on your desired menu.

2. There you click on New button on the right side of top menu.

3. Then you are taken to Select Menu Item Type. Click on sectionnavitatorpro and then

click on Default Layout undersectionnavigatorpro. This is shown in below picture:

4. After this you're taken back to the menu item naming. Name the menu item as of your liking.

5. Set the parameters as per your liking and you are done. Section Navigator is optimized to use

the default values. But you have full control over what you can do and what you can't.

Introduction to Section Navigator Parameters

Loads of parameters are available to control the operation of Section Navigator. Almost all of the

parameters are described below one by one in the following table.

1 Section Navigator Views The options are: Expanded Sections--->Cats--->Arts and Tabbed

Sections .

A. If you choose Expanded Sections--->Cats--->Arts optionthen sections, categories and articles are expandable. Clicking on

sections presents categories. clicking on categories presents

Articles list. A plus sign is shown to click for expand and minus

sign for collapse. Initially all sections are collapsed. Expand alland collapse all option is also presented on the top. If you want

then you can turn off the words Expand and Collapse etc.

B. If you choose Tabbed Sections, then all sections are

presented as tabs. Clicking on a particular tab shows categories of

that particular section. You can show all tabs at a time or n numberof tabs at a time.

2 Text to display before lists This is the text to be displayed before the sections list starts. Basic

HTML tags are applicable. e.g
, etc.

3 Show UnAuthorized Links Not in use at the moment. May be programmed later on if need be.

4 Number of Tabs At a Time

Means All)

If you leave this option blank then all sections will be taken as

tabs at a time. If you enter a number, then those number of tabs

will be shown at a time. Like say you have 30 sections and youspecify 3. Then three tabs at a time will be shown. And 10 similar

lines will be shown on the same page.

5 Number of Cols to Show

Sections

This refers to the number of columns to show the sections in. The

rows are adjusted automatically. Default is 2. You can experimentwith this number to suit the look and feel of your requirements.

6 Number of Cols to ShowCategories

This refers to the number of columns to show the categories in.The rows are adjusted automatically. Default is 2. You can

experiment with this number to suit the look and feel of your

requirements.

7 Enter Section IDs toInclude or Exclude.

Separate by comma.

Positive means include,

Enter comma separated section id values(integers) to include orexclude. If you write positive values then all of those values will

be included and rest of the sections will be excluded. + signshould not be used with positive sections. If you write negative

(Blank Means Include All)

values then those sections will be excluded and rest all sections

will be included. Leaving blank defaults to include all sections. If

you put some positive and some negative values then the behavioris decided with the first value. If its positive then all of the values

10 Show Empty Categories The options are Yes/No. IfYes then empty categories are

The options are Yes/No. IfYes then categories in the sections

are displayed besides the section name.

13 Show Article Count in The options are Yes/No. IfYes then articles in the sections are

The options are Yes/No. IfYes then articles in the categories are

15 Section Layout Three layouts are available. Blog, list and articles list on separatepage. Articles list on separate page prints section articles on

separate page, instead of on same page and hence its efficient.

separate page, instead of on same page and hence its efficient.

17 Show Articles List On

Separate Page

The options are Yes/No. If you choose Yes option then articles

are presented on separate page when you click on category. If you

choose No option then articles are printed on same page.

18 Number of Articles to

Show Per Page

If you choose option Show Articles List on Separate Page

then you can specify how many articles to show at a time perpage. Default is 10.

19 Turn Off Warnings? Only applicable for Section Navigator Multi Pro.

20 Turn Off Errors? Only applicable for Section Navigator Multi Pro.

21 Sections Order This option presents the sorting of sections. The available values

are: Alphabetical, Reverse Alphabetical and Ordering(In which

sections were created.)

22 Categories Order This option presents the sorting of categories under sections. Theavailable values are: Alphabetical, Reverse Alphabetical and

Ordering(In which categories were created.)

23 Articles Order This option presents the sorting of articles under categories under

sections. The available values are: Alphabetical, Reverse

Alphabetical and Ordering(In which articles were created.),Newest First, Oldest First, Newest First Modified, Oldest First

Modified, Least Hits, Most Hits, Author, Reverse Author Name.

24 Expand Sections Initially? The possible values are Yes/No. The option is applicable to

'Expanded Sections--->Cats--->Arts'. If set to Yes all of thesection/categories and articles are expanded.

25 Show Expand/CollapseText?

In 'Expanded Sections--->Cats--->Arts' view you see the words,'EXPAND ALL', 'EXPAND', 'COLLAPSE ALL',

'COLLAPSE'. If set to yes, then these words will be shown, else

only plus sign will be displayed. By default the option is 'Yes'.

26 Text to display after lists This is the text you wanna display after the section list is ended.

29 SEF URL Components This option presents the components of URL.

There are three options:

1. Only Article portion will be shown in URL as appropriate.

When this is turned on then in URL structure, section and category

2. /Category/Articles will be shown in URL as appropriate.

When this option is turned on then in URL structure category andarticle portions are included. e.g

3. /Section/Category/Articles will be shown in URL as

appropriate.

When this option is turned on then in URL structure section,

30 URLs Look Like Here there are three choices for the user. How should the URLlook like.

1. /id-Section-Title/id-Category-Title/idArticle-Title

With this option turned on the URL components will have title andid slug e.g as below:

Parameters.

These are self evident options for section font styling. You can

specify font family, size, weight, color and style.

ADVANCED PARAMETERS

1 Description To show description for Section or Category in blog view.

2 Treat Section With Empty

Category As Empty?

This is special option. This option refers to blank sections. Let's

say some section is having zero articles and 5 categories. All ofthe categories under that section are also empty. Now, its upto the

user whether she wants to assume that section as empty or not. If

'Yes' then that section with empty categories will be taken as

empty and normal empty sections rules will be applied on that.If 'No' then this section will be printed, even though you may have

set the option Show Blank Sections to 'No', because now this

section will not be empty.

3 Description Image To show description image for the section or category or not. Thisoption applies to blog view.

4 Ads to display before titleof article

This option prints ad before article's title. Here in text box you canpaste the publisher advertisement code provided by google

adsense, chitika, adbrite etc. to show advertisements in your

articles. How may ads to show is upto the user.

5 Ads to display after title of article

This option prints ad after article's title. Here in text box you canpaste the publisher advertisement code provided by google

adsense, chitika, adbrite etc. to show advertisements in your

articles. How may ads to show is upto the user.

6 Ads to display at bottom of

content of article

This option prints ad at the bottom of article. Here in text box you

can paste the publisher advertisement code provided by google

adsense, chitika, adbrite etc. to show advertisements in yourarticles. How may ads to show is upto the user.

7 Ads to display at end of

content of article

This option prints ad article printing is finished. Here in text box

you can paste the publisher advertisement code provided bygoogle adsense, chitika, adbrite etc. to show advertisements in

your articles. How may ads to show is upto the user.

8 Show Boundary Line Two options are available. If you want to see the boundary line

around the sections, then set it to Yes. Else No.

9 Show Powered By Link This also has two options. If you keep it to Yes, then it will show

the link: 'Powered By: Section Navigator Pro'. We recommend

that you let it be there. Or you can cancel it out. Simply press No.

as the sample data. This will also highlight the intricacies of the Section Navigator. Also it will helpyou to set it up as per your needs.

3. Our Section Navigator allows us to include or exclude any sections, categories or articles.

4. You can either include a set of sections or exclude it. You can't include or exclude sections atthe same time.(Not a possible scenario).

5. You can include categories for some sections and exclude categories from some other sections.

6. You can include articles for some sections/categories and exclude articles from some othersections/categories.

7. To include sections simply provide a comma separated list of Ids. To exclude sections simplyprovide a comma separated list of negative Ids. Negative is considered as exclusion.

8. To include categories simply provide a comma separated list of Ids. To exclude sections simply

provide a comma separated list of negative Ids. Negative is considered as exclusion.

9. To include categories simply provide a comma separated list of Ids. To exclude sections simply

provide a comma separated list of negative Ids. Negative is considered as exclusion.

10. For our present scenario, Sections will be mentioned as: 4,6,17. That means include only 4, 6

and 17 no. sections rest will not be considered. If you give -4,-6,-17 then these will be excludedand rest all of the sections will be included.

11. For our present scenario, Categories will be mentioned as:117,118,119,120,85,88,91,-59,-63,-65,-66. That means include only 117,118,119,120,85,88 and

91 no. categories rest will not be considered for those sections 4 and 17. Categories -59,-63,-65

and -66 mean that these category Ids will be excluded from the list and rest all will be included

for the section 6.

12. For our present scenario, Articles will be mentioned as:

3466,3179,1974,-2635,-3427,-4197,-4024,-3980. That means include only 3466,3179 and 1974.Rest of the articles in that particular section/categories (4:::117,118) and (17:::85) will not be

Health&Fitness has now 5 articles because of inclusion and exclusion coming in effect. Rounded boxestell the story of inclusion. Diseases&Illness has 3 articles. We specified nothing for Mesothelioma, that

means include all. But its empty. No article is there. Still it was shown due to the option: Show empty

categories=Yes.
