battling for the win this coming weekend. Not only will they get the chance to show they have the talent, but it will also prepare them for the next challenge in life, but for our elite fighters who are in this business for a long time, this will be a good chance for them to prepare them for future tournament such as the Oceania for this year,” he said.

According to Malala, who is also a certified 1-Star Coach, the team that is going to battle with the team from Samoa this weekend is ASBF’s top team, which includes Falaniko Tauta, Jeffrey Tago, Kaisa Ioane and Fati Taua’i.

2016 Samoa Games gold medalist, Tauta is holding an undefeated record in his amateur career. He also won 2 gold medals and a bronze from previous International boxing champion-ship including the 2015 Oceania and the Samoa Games last year, where he won the MVP award. He qualified to the Youth Olympics next year in Argentina after an outstanding performance at the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) International Sparring Competition in Australia last month.

Fighting in the 81kg for American Samoa is Tago, who won a gold medal from the Samoa Games last year in Apia. According to Malala, Tago is one of our young fighters who has the potential and the skills, and he’s confident that he will do well this coming weekend.

For the 69kg division, Ioane will be using this tournament to test his fitness and his skills ahead to the 2017 Oceania Championship in Australia in June. Ioane won 4 gold medals from previous International boxing championships, including the Oceania and the Samoa Games in Apia last December.

“Ioane’s win was his fourth gold medal from the Samoa Games in Apia last December when he knocked out both his last two opponents during the semi final and the final to win the gold for American Samoa. He’ll be representing American Samoa in the upcoming 2017 Oceania Championship in Australia in June, and we are confident that he will do good out there”, said Malala.

For the main event of the night, Fati-Taua’i of American Samoa will be testing the mighty hands of Matagi from Samoa, who is well known in the Pacific for his speed and skills, and also won several gold medals for Samoa from pre-

vious International boxing championship.Matagi is already on island and he’s training

together with the ASBF team at their main training spot in Tafuna.

“Fati-Taua’i is not new in the ring, he has power with good skills and he’s fought with some of the good elite fighters from Samoa in many past tournaments and I have confidence that he can counter the mighty hands and the speed of the Samoa gold medalist, Matagi”, said Malala.

Despite Fati-Taua’i never having won a medal throughout his career, Malala still believes that this will be an interesting main event for the night.

“The two fighters have never fought each other before so it will be interesting to see Fati-Taua’i’s power versus Matagi’s speed. Both are young fighters and would use this opportunity as part of their preparations for future tourna-ments,” Malala said.

“Matagi on the other hand is a humble and soft spoken young man who prefers to let his hands do the talking. He sees a future in boxing and ultimately wants to become World Cham-pion. He will get his opportunity to prove him-self that he still has the skills for the sport he loves.”

Matagi made his name well known in the Pacific when he defeated Tongan’s Elite Cham-pion Kanongataa Atonio in the a third round with a TKO to win the “Battle of the Pacific” bout in Apia last year, using his speed and skills to dom-inate the first three rounds of their 8-round bout in front of more than 2,000 spectators.

Two offensive linemen were selected in the first round of last month’s NFL draft, the fewest since 1965.

In 2017, the big guys up front are positioned to bounce back.

With the help of former Auburn guard and ESPN and SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic, a look at some of the draft-eligible offensive linemen that will be vital to their team’s performance in 2017 — and pos-sible first-round picks in 2018.

Mike McGlinchey, OT, and Quinton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish are hoping the left side of their line can help lead a turnaround from last sea-son’s 4-8 mess. McGlinchey is a mountain at 6-foot-8 and 312 pounds, with potential to be the first offensive lineman taken in next year’s draft.

The 6-5, 330-pound Nelson is a dominant run blocker. “He’s an absolute mauler,” Cubelic said.

ORLANDO BROWN, OT, OKLAHOMA

The Sooners have to replace some top-flight talent at running back and wide receiver, but the offensive line should make life easy on the new playmakers. Brown is the leader. At 6-7 and 340, Brown took a big leap for-ward from his redshirt freshman season to last year in funda-mentals and technique. Athleti-cally, he has all the tools. “Your elite prototypical tackle frame,” Cubelic said.

MITCH HYATT, OT, CLEMSON

Hyatt was a huge recruit

who has been starting since his freshman season. He has been made steady progress from solid in 2015 to very good in 2016. This season the Tigers expect him to be one of the best offen-sive linemen in the country and a leader of an offense that will have plenty of new faces at the skill positions.

MARTINAS RANKIN, OT, MISSISSIPPI STATE

Rankin is a junior college transfer who redshirted his first season with the Bulldogs in 2015. He needed some time to develop last season, but by the end of 2016 he was showing star potential.

FRANK RAGNOW, C, ARKANSAS

How important is Frank Ragnow to the Razorbacks? Arkansas coach Bret Bielema held his center out of full-contact scrimmages this spring to pre-serve a key asset. Ragnow is a three-year starter who passed on a chance to jump into the NFL draft after last season when he graded out as the top offensive lineman in the country by Pro Football Focus.

Connor Williams, OT, TexasWilliams has grown into his

massive frame during his two seasons at Texas while retaining quickness and athleticism. The 6-6, 320-pound junior is the best player on an offensive line that has experienced players but needs better overall play. Remarkably, Texas has not had an offensive lineman drafted since 2008. Wil-liams is likely to break that string.

EXTRA POINTSix more draft-eligible offen-

sive lineman looking to dominate in 2017: Trey Adams, OT, Wash-

ington; Mason Cole, C, Mich-igan; Tyrell Crosby, OT, Oregon; Martez Ivey, OG, Florida; Jamarco Jones, OT, Ohio State; Brock Ruble, OT, Florida State.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels cleared the fences and provided manager Mike Scioscia with some encouraging signs for an offense that has been far from consistent.

Yunel Escobar hit a three-run homer and had four RBIs, Albert Pujols and Ben Revere added solo shots and the Angels beat the Oakland Athletics 7-3 on Tuesday night.

Pujols isn’t ready to say this game will be some kind of turning point, but it was a good start in the process.

“That was great obviously after a tough loss last night,” Pujols said. “We just came back and scored first, then they took the lead but we put some good at-bats. ... We know what kind of team we have. That thing comes and goes. The best thing is everybody goes out and tries to put good quality swings. We can’t just go out there and try to hit the ball out of the park.”

Yonder Alonso homered twice for Oakland, raising his career-best total to 11 with his second career two-homer game — four days after his first.

“What are we in, early May? It’s been impressive,” manager Bob Melvin said. “At this point now you almost expect him to go up there and drive in runs and drive the ball.”

Pujols homered in the first only to see Alonso answer with a two-run drive in the bottom half. Then the Angels hit two more in the second as the first seven runs all scored on long balls. Escobar added an RBI groundout in the fourth and Cliff Pennington singled in a run to back Alex Meyer (1-1), who earned his first career road victory.

The A’s didn’t have that late-game magic on this night as Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant watched from behind home plate. Oakland had won its previous three games with walkoffs.

Jharel Cotton (3-4) struck out the first two batters of the game before surrendering Pujols’ fifth homer on a drive to left-center.

Cotton, who fell to 0-4 in night games while going 3-0 during the day, allowed eight hits, a season-high seven runs and struck out seven with one walk over five innings.

Alonso homered for a second time leading off the sixth.

“He’s swinging the bat prob-ably hotter than anybody in the game right now,” Scioscia said.

Scioscia’s club managed

more than enough runs after the Angels were held to just two in Monday’s 3-2 defeat for the fifth time in nine games.

Meyer struck out seven but walked five over 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and four hits. Bud Norris, the Angels’ fourth reliever who entered after Keynan Middleton started the ninth, earned his sixth save after Oakland threatened in the ninth.

“We need to get the offense going,” Scioscia said. “We’ve had a lot of close games. Our pitchers have had their backs against the wall.”

The Angels are 6-0 this year playing on Tuesday.

TRAINER’S ROOMAngels: OF Mike Trout

sat out a fourth straight game for the first time as a regular major leaguer and missed his fifth game in six with a tight left hamstring. He planned to hit in the cage Tuesday and said he would test the leg run-ning Wednesday. ... Angels SS Andrelton Simmons returned to the lineup a day after being hit by a pitch in the first inning later leaving with a bruised left hand and right thumb. His left thumb was still bruised but Simmons said he was able to swing without pain and it shouldn’t affect him throwing. “It feels good enough to hit, it feels good enough to play,” he said.

Athletics: C Josh Phegley (concussion), who played at extended spring training Monday, is tentatively slated to come off the DL when eli-gible Friday at Texas. ... OF Mark Canha was recalled from Triple-A Nashville and OF Jaff Decker was designated for assignment.

SEVEN YEARS LATEROn the seven-year anniver-

sary of Dallas Braden’s perfect game against Tampa Bay on Mother’s Day 2010, several familiar faces from that day were still around and playing Tuesday: Angels second baseman Pennington — then with Oakland — recorded the final out when he fielded a grounder to shortstop and threw to first; A’s center fielder Rajai Davis was in the same spot that day and Oakland shortstop Adam Rosales played second.

Highlights were shown on the scoreboard in the middle of the second.

UP NEXTRHP Jesse Chavez (2-4)

faces his former A’s club in the series finale Wednesday after-noon opposite Andrew Triggs (4-3).

NEW YORK (AP) — No doubt about it, the New York Mets lead the league in drama this season.

In the middle of it all, they’re winning again.

Zack Wheeler pitched two-hit ball against the team that traded him, Michael Conforto homered and New York scored four times in the first inning Tuesday night on the way to a 6-1 victory over the staggering San Francisco Giants.

Hours after an embarrassed Matt Harvey returned from his three-day suspension with a string of contrite apologies , the banged-up Mets began moving on from their latest commo-tion. Despite all the injuries and turmoil recently, New York (16-16) has righted itself on the field by winning eight of 11 fol-lowing a six-game slide.

“There’s been a lot of action around here. To get off, jump out to a big start like that, I think that kind of let everybody have a deep breath and really just con-centrate on the game,” manager Terry Collins said.

Jeff Samardzija (0-5) and the Giants, outhit 13-2, are headed in the opposite direction after their fifth consecutive defeat and eighth in 10 games. San Fran-cisco, with three World Series titles and four playoff appear-ances since 2010, has the worst record in the majors at 11-23.

The team got more bad news moments before the first pitch when All-Star closer Mark Mel-ancon was put on the disabled list — though the Giants haven’t had many late leads to protect.

“I can’t explain why we’re not hitting,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “It’s been a while, and we’re just sputtering here.”

Buster Posey went deep for the Giants, giving him home runs in consecutive games for the first time since July 2015.

Wheeler (2-2) tossed six innings in his best start since

missing two seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander was drafted sixth overall by San Francisco in 2009 and shipped to the Mets for slugger Carlos Beltran in July 2011.

“I did have four walks, but that’s the best I’ve felt all season,” Wheeler said.

T.J. Rivera had three more hits for the resurgent Mets, including an RBI double off the wall in the second. The rookie fill-in for injured Lucas Duda also made a couple of nice plays at first base .

Neil Walker keyed the first-inning outburst against Samardzija with a two-run triple on a sinking line drive that went under the glove of charging left fielder Eduardo Nunez, an infielder by trade.

Jose Reyes added an RBI single and Rene Rivera had a run-scoring double , both with two outs.

Conforto homered in the sev-enth off Samardzija, who even-tually settled in. He struck out nine and walked none but was tagged for six runs and a season-high 10 hits in seven innings.

“We’ve got plenty of talent on this team. I don’t think that’s the issue,” Samardzija said. “We need to go out there day to day and forget the past and play for today.”

STARTING FASTThe Mets have won four

straight series and will go for a three-game sweep Wednesday afternoon. They’ve scored in the first inning in eight of their last nine games, totaling 17 runs.

THE ICEMEN COMETHNHL hockey is coming

to Citi Field. The New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres will play the outdoor Winter Classic in Queens on Jan. 1, 2018, Commissioner Gary Bettman announced.

SECOND TO ONECollins managed his 1,004th

game with the Mets, passing Bobby Valentine for second on the franchise list behind Davey Johnson (1,012).

TRAINER’S ROOMGiants: Melancon was placed

on the 10-day DL with a sore forearm, retroactive to Saturday. San Francisco played a man short and plans to make a cor-responding roster move before the series finale Wednesday afternoon. The team said Mel-ancon, who hasn’t pitched since last Wednesday, has a mild right pronator strain. ... SS Brandon Crawford, on the DL since April 26 because of a strained groin, went 3 for 5 in a rehab game for Double-A Richmond.

NEW YORK (AP) — Matt Harvey was contrite. Vis-ibly embarrassed. Entirely apologetic.

Nothing like the brash and cocksure kid who burst onto the New York scene a few years back and quickly became one of baseball’s most dominant pitchers.

A subdued Harvey rejoined the Mets on Tuesday and apolo-gized to teammates, coaches, owners and fans after serving his three-day suspension for skipping a game last weekend following a late night on the town. And in a pair of unusually emotive news conferences, he and manager Terry Collins even

hinted the one-time ace might have a problem with alcohol.

At the very least, they virtu-ally acknowledged a late-night lifestyle has pulled Harvey’s priorities away from the game and impaired his pitching.

“There are things that I’ve realized in the last couple days that I need to be doing or should not be doing,” Harvey said before New York hosted San Francisco. “One of those that I should be doing is putting myself in a better place to per-form physically and be account-able for my work, and that’s something that I’m committing to.”

Collins said he thinks this latest flap can be a wakeup call , and Harvey admitted that.

Before the 2015 playoffs, Harvey was fined for missing a mandatory team workout. This time, he was suspended three days without pay.

“I’m extremely embarrassed by my actions,” said Harvey, wearing a Mets cap and practice shirt as he sat at a table with a microphone in the interview room.

“It’s completely my fault,” he added. “I’m doing every-thing I can so that never hap-pens again.”

The star pitcher has help inside and outside the club-house, Collins said, and he thinks Harvey will now use his strong support group.

“I don’t think he thinks he has to do it by himself any-more,” Collins explained.

Asked directly if he thinks Harvey has an alcohol problem, Collins said: “I’m not qualified to answer that.”

And his habits off the field?“I didn’t get into that stuff

with him. I know that there’s people who have, that he’s discussed it with. They’re pro-fessionals on that side of it,” Collins said. “I think he needs

to just refocus his energies towards being the best in the game again.”

The 28-year-old Harvey acknowledged he was out after Friday night’s game “past curfew” and then played golf Saturday morning. He did not show up at Citi Field for Sat-urday night’s game against Miami and took “full blame” for that.

The right-hander was sched-uled to start Sunday afternoon, but when he arrived at the ballpark he was sent home by the team. New York called up journeyman Adam Wilk from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill in on short notice and little-to-no sleep. Wilk was hit hard in a 7-0 loss to the Marlins.

“I think everybody deserves a second chance. What Matt said to me, he’s going to get after it like he did in the past,” Collins said. “I told him he needs to make baseball number one. When he did that, he was on top of the world, you know? This guy was the best pitcher in the game. He made that the priority. And when he makes that the priority again, he’ll be back.”

Once a hugely popular fan favorite, Harvey started the 2013 All-Star Game on his home mound at Citi Field — but his promising career was soon interrupted by Tommy John surgery. He made a successful return in 2015, helping the Mets reach the World Series, before another injury derailed him. He had a rib removed last year during an operation to treat tho-racic outlet syndrome, cutting short a dreadful season on the mound (4-10, 4.86 ERA).

Throughout it all, the pitcher has clashed with Mets manage-ment several times while details of his dating and nightlife have appeared regularly in the gossip pages.

DEAR ABBY: My fiancee has a death wish. She recently lost her youngest child to suicide. She’s in a lot of pain and rarely has a good day. She suffers from PTSD and relives the scene daily in her mind.

She’s a hard worker, so that helps to keep her mind off things. She lives in an empty house with nothing there but farm animals, which she says do help to make her happy.

Abby, I’m worried because she does things that put her in danger, like staying at her son’s grave alone at night for hours. She told me recently she’s planning to go out of state to visit her other son and then spend six days by herself camping and hiking. She also goes jogging alone late at night and leaves her doors unlocked.

It seems she just doesn’t care about what may happen. She says don’t worry, but I’m terrified that one day something will happen. She’s not someone who would put up a fight.

We’re recently engaged and I care deeply about her and her safety, but I’m helpless to say anything because she just gets mad. I don’t know what to do. Can you maybe help me? -- VERY CONCERNED FIANCE IN FLORIDA

DEAR FIANCE: Your fiancee is in the throes of grief. If she is the person who discovered her son’s body, she may be numb with shock and not thinking clearly.

It is not unusual for people who have lost a loved one -- particularly a child -- to wonder if life is still worth living and to engage either consciously or subconsciously in risk-taking behavior. A licensed psychotherapist or a suicide support group could help her to recognize what she’s doing and to get through this. Seeing others who have experienced what she has and who are further along in the grieving process would be helpful.

If she’s resistant to the idea, offer to go with her. The American Federation for Suicide Prevention (afsp.org) can help you find resources in your state.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •DEAR ABBY: The husbands of both my two daughters asked for my blessing prior to asking my

girls to marry them. I felt what they did was respectful and it was very much appreciated. My wife felt the same way when I relayed the good news to her.

I believe this courtesy replaced what in the “olden days” was a request for PERMISSION from the father rather than a blessing and, in my opinion, is more appropriate. If I am correct in my assumption that “permission” has evolved to “blessing,” I wonder if it would have been more appropriate for them to have asked my wife and me together for our blessing. Your thoughts? -- PROUD PAPA

DEAR PROUD PAPA: Men asked permission of fathers to marry their daughters in “olden days” because the daughters were considered property. They could not marry without their father’s consent. Thankfully, those customs are long gone -- in western society, at least. Please stop second-guessing your sons-in-law, who both seem like gems to me. Many couples today forgo the courtesy altogether.

Happy Birthday: Engage in life, love and laughter. Let your creative heart run wild and your desire to be free take over. Let go of past regrets, live in the moment and do what comes naturally. Speak openly about your needs and how you are going to change your life. Saying what you feel and doing what you say will lead to happiness. Your numbers are 5, 11, 21, 27, 33, 36, 49.

ARIES (March 21-April 19): Being secretive about what you are up to will create more of a problem in the end. Others may assume the worst. A diplomatic attitude will help you avoid a situation that could dismantle your plans or your reputation. ✸✸✸

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Put some force behind your decisions and turn your dreams into a reality. Express your ideas openly and don’t be afraid to do things differently. Adopt new technology and innovative concepts and manipulate them to work for you. ✸✸✸

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Look for alternative ways to reach your goal. Whether at work or at home, taking a unique approach will attract interest. Where there is controversy, there is also growth. Listen to good advice, but do your own thing. ✸✸✸

CANCER (June 21-July 22): Refuse to let anyone order you around. Try to outmaneuver anyone who may be trying to push you in a direction you don’t want to go. Express the way you feel and don’t budge. Your strength of character will pay off. ✸✸✸✸✸

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Be open to suggestions and listen to opinions, but when it comes to making a decision, look at all the information and implement the changes that will improve your work performance as well as your personal life. ✸✸

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): You’ll have to work hard when dealing with your relationships with others. Problems will arise if you are critical or impatient with the way others do things. Show compas-sion and understanding and offer a helping hand. ✸✸✸✸

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Deal with family members as well as your peers and you will find it easier to get your way. Offering incentives will help, but don’t feel the need to go overboard when a simple gesture will do the trick. ✸✸✸

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): You will need to work with partners, peers and those affected by the decisions you make. Having the support and guidance of others will encourage you to try harder and be more assertive when faced with opposition. ✸✸✸

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Giving in a little to gain a lot isn’t such a bad idea. Don’t feel the need to have it all your way. Allowing others to have a moment in the spotlight will make you look good. ✸✸✸

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Work hard and finish what you start. Avoid anyone who gives you a hard time or who doesn’t think the same way you do. The less you reveal about what you are up to, the better. Do your own thing. ✸✸✸✸

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Observe how people from different backgrounds live and it will help you understand how to get along better with people from all walks of life. Don’t limit what you can do because you are unaware of the possibilities. Ask questions and participate. ✸✸

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): A call for assistance will give you a chance to put more of your time into working out the important details. If someone complains, simply ask someone else to help. Put your energy into accomplishing your goals, not arguing. ✸✸✸✸✸

Birthday Baby: You are progressive, intense and tenacious. You are innovative and appealing.
