Formation of Sedimentary Rock

Sedimentary rocks are formed by

weathering and erosion of other rock. Over

time that rock is deposited in new locations.

Those sediments are compacted and

cemented together.

3 types of sedimentary rock

1. Clastic rock

2. Chemical rock

3. Organic rock

Clastic rock

Rock that is formed from fragments of other

rock

Examples:

Sand and Gravel – Conglomerate

Sand – Sandstone

Silt and Clay – Shale
