• Diseases that are made likely by neglect of the body
• Cannot be passed from person to person
• Ex: Heart disease, cancer, diabetes
• Lifestyle choices that promote health can help prevent lifestyle diseases.
Teen belief
• Teenagers often believe that their lifestyle choices will have little affect on them when they get older.
• They are wrong, what they do today will catch up to them when they get older.
• Many of these lifestyle choices determine whether or not they get lifestyle diseases.
Risk factors
• Risk factors include:• Poor diet• Physical inactivity• Smoking• Alcohol• Unrewarding social interaction• Other diseases• Genetic traits
Family history
• People who are genetically prone to developing certain diseases should start making changes in their lifestyle as soon as possible.
• You should look at your family's medical history to see which diseases are common in your family.
