WordPress SEOTitles & Metas: General

Title – Force rewrite. Yoast auto-

detects. Do not change.

Title Separator – Choose the title

separator in Meta Titles. No SEO

benefit, but looks nice.

Sitewide Meta Settings –

Remove archive secondary pages,

remove meta keywords tag,

remove Dmoz, remove Yahoo!

directory.

Clean up the <head> - Remove

depreciated or unnecessary info



WordPress SEOTitles & Metas: Homepage

If your homepage is set to a

specific page, you can optimize on

that page.

If your homepage is a blog

archive, here you will see the

familiar Yoast optimization display.



WordPress SEOTitles & Metas: Post Types

Create default meta templates for

post types (posts, pages) when

descriptions and titles have not

been entered on the individual

pages.

It is better to write optimized page

titles and descriptions than to use

templates.



WordPress SEOTitles & Metas: Taxonomies

Categories & Tags are default

taxonomies in WordPress. Plugins

and themes may add additional

taxonomies.

Here you can create templates

that make it easy for categories

and tags to have keywords, titles,

and descriptions.

I recommend writing unique

descriptions for all categories. If

you have too many tags, using

templates is fine.



WordPress SEOTitles & Metas: Other

Author Archives – It’s better to

write unique descriptions for

authors. If there is only one author,

I recommend disabling the author

archives.

Date Archives – I recommend

disabling them unless you have a

site where date-based content is

imparative.

Special Pages – Here you can

create title templates for 404

pages and search pages.



WordPress SEOSocial

Here you can add URLs and other

social-specific data to help these

networks better understand your

content and how to display it on

their networks.



WordPress SEOXML Sitemaps

Yoast has an excellent XML

sitemap for search engines. Here

you can enable and disable many

settings.

Disable author/user pages if your

site is not author-centric.

Disable user roles that do not have

useful content.

Disable post types and taxonomies

that are not used.

Add your sitemap to Webmaster

Tools.



WordPress SEOPermalinks

Strip /category/ base – Enable

Enforce trailing slashes - Enable if

you do not have an extension on URLs

(.html, .php).

Remove stop words – Disable

Redirect attachment URLs to Parent

post URL – Enable

Remove ?replytocom – Enable

Redirect ugly URLs – Disable

Force Transport – SSL dependent



WordPress SEOInternal Links

Yoast has it own breadcrumb

functionality. This is an advanced

feature that requires you to copy

and paste code into a template.



WordPress SEORSS

Yoast allows you to add additional

content to above and/or below

your content. So when other sites

aggregate your content, you can

provide explanations to where the

content was original from, and a

link to it.



WordPress SEOImport & Export

Save, migrate, and import Yoast

settings from one site to another,

or from one SEO plugin to another.



WordPress SEOBulk Editor



WordPress SEOEdit Files

Update robots.txt and .htaccess from within Yoast. Requires that these files

exist and are writeable. This is very advanced and can cause your site to break

or devastate your SEO. Use with caution. Backup regularly.



WordPress SEOTop Bar

Top bar also allows you to quickly go to settings pages from the

front-end of your site. As well as quick links to AdWords, Google

Trends, and SEOBook.



WordPress SEOPremium Extensions

Even with all the amazing functionality, Yoast is free. However, you can

extend the functionality of this plugin with extensions depending on

your industry or needs.

WordPress SEO Premium – Only necessary if you require support,

prefer to have handy video tutorials, as well as have Google

Webmaster Tools 404 integration for easy redirects. If you do not need

these features, there’s no need for this extention.



WordPress SEOPremium Extensions

Video SEO – If you post video from YouTube, DailyMotion, or Vimeo often, this

plugin helps provide Google with the markup to display a thumbnail in SERPs,

making your SERPs appear more interactive. $69

Local SEO - Helps insert and markup Google Maps, business addresses,

operating hours, and store locator. If you only have one location, you can mark

up this information yourself for free in about 30 minutes to an hour. $69

News SEO – If you post everyday or have a magazine-style website, this plugin

will create an XML news sitemap to make it easier for Google to crawl and index

new content faster. Not necessary unless you post at least once a day. $69

WooCommerce SEO - This plugin adds markup to product pages, helping Google display

pricing information in SERPs, open graph markup for products, optimizes the XML sitemap

for products, and replaces WooCommerce Breadcrumbs with Yoast. If you use

WooCommerce, this is a no-brainer, especially for $49.
