The result of the Hargreaves meeting seems to present every state with a modest profit, similarly the Federal Office has also had a modest profit - half of which will be directed toward the Research Grants Fund. Our Research Grants Fund continues to grow at a reasonable rate, increasing by our $5.00 per member per year contribution, state branch contributions, and profits from educational courses.Al1 of the earnings of the fund by way of interest are distributed each year to recipients of research grants. This year there were three recipients all from the University of Melbourne.

The Australian Society of Endodontology will be having a joint meeting with the Canadian Academy of Endodontics in Vancouver in May 1997 which I would encourage all of you to attend. Both groups are providing four speakers each, and the meeting promises to be of a very high calibre.

Planning is proceeding well for the 1999 meeting of the International Association of Dental Traumatology which is co- sponsored by our Society. This meeting will be held in March of 1999 in Melbourne and Dr Barry Feiglin is chairman of the organising committee. There may be up to ten international speakers at the meeting and we have been fortunate to secure a good deal of sponsorship to date and hopefully more will come.

I would encourage you all to keep this meeting in the back of your minds as a “not to miss” meeting.

The Society is in a healthy state financially, with the Research Grants Fund growing and our working capital remaining fairly static.

I would like to thank each of the state branch presidents and secretaries for their co-operation in having information to me as soon as possible when necessary. I would also like to thank our judges for the undergraduate Essay Competition Drs Mark Hansen and Mark Davis and judges for the Postgraduate Case Competition Drs Fiona Heard and John Bone.Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

For those of you who were unable to attend the Hargreaves meeting you unfortunately missed a feast of very eruditely presented and clinically relevant information; although the overall attendance for this course throughout Australia was low in comparison to other courses, it was one of the most successful in terms of education.

See you all at the next meeting in 1997!
