I have great pleasure to mention that the first issue of FAPGA E -mag was received by all the members of FAPGA with much appreciation. I must say this was possible because of the support and co-operation that received from the Chairman, Mr.Peter, Treasurer, Mr.Ishibashi and the members of FAPGA. As you know exchange of news between the members are the prime point for the smooth functioning of an Association of an international stature. I feel this is the medium for knowing each other and interacting with mutual respect.

As you know, 14th FAPGA conference is being hosted by China Academy of Printing Technology at Shanghai, China on 12th and 13th November, 2014 along with 5th all in Print China conference scheduled from 14th to 17 November, 2014. As per the understanding, the FAPGA meeting is being organised once in a year by one of the member countries. CAPT has already sent the conference details to all the members well in advance. I request all our members to attend this meeting and participate in the deliberations effectively for the betterment of our Forum. As you can see from the agenda, the theme of the global print summit is “Innovation – opportunity & Future” which is quite relevant to the present day scenario.

Innovation has always been the success symbol of most flourishing global brands. The term innovation can be defined as something new or a novel idea or a new method which would bring better solutions for the requirements. Innovation increases the likelihood of a business succeeding, however most people don’t know where to start. People often think of innovating as just invention. Innovation does not necessarily require a large budget or investment in Research and Development (R&D). It’s also about new ideas and responding to new trends and market conditions, or making improvements to products and services that already exist.

Let us make new innovations to bring more opportunities for the betterment of the print industry and its future.

Regards R. Suresh Secretary General

Secretary General’s Corner Chairman’s DeskDear Friends,

The printing industry has been playing the key role of providing a method of disseminating information in a broad sense. The most important element constituting our contemporary society is information. In this sense, the printing industry is a most basic industry in that it supports the transmission of information. It has developed as a ‘domestic demand industry’, based on each country’s own culture.

At this juncture, the object of FAPGA which facilitates the exchange of printing technologies and promoting progress in this sector among the Asian and Pacific countries with a view to build co-operative relationship towards internationalization is quite relevant. A regular sharing of information is to be considered as vital. This could cover the topics of the current state of the industry in each country, the future outlook and green printing initiatives. We want to pursuit common interest and technology of computerized imaging, and to develop each culture of Asian and Pacific countries by using the technical information of Graphic Arts.

Let us exchange mutually our information through Forum of Asia Pacific Graphic Arts. We have to make efforts to form a complete net work among FAPGA countries to have mutual respect and co-operation so as to find ways and means to attain sustainable growth in our industry. In order to promote a uniform development of printing industries throughout the totality of the Asia Pacific region we should provide an open printing technology and information and international exchange of technology and that should be accomplished by all means.

During the 14th FAPGA meeting which is to be held on 12th and 13th November, 2014 at Shanghai, China let us all think aloud on our theme Innovation – opportunity and future.

Wish you all the best.

Promotion of Recycle Oriented Printing Recovered paper occupied 62% of raw material for paper in Japan as of 2008. Usage of recovered paper had already reached 93% for cardboard paper but for printing paper, it was only 38% and it need to be improved. In order to increase usage of recovered paper for printing paper, printed matter to be more optimized for recycling. “Recycle Oriented Printing” is one which does not contain adverse material for recycling such as conventional glue for book binding. We have established rank A to D in level of recycling adaptability and if a printing product comply with these classification, Recycle Adaptability Mark indicating these ranking can be applied so that it will be easier to classify recovered paper as well as encouraging client to choose better ranking printing. Rank A: One which can be recycled to printing paper Rank B: One which can be recycled to cardboard paper Rank C: Not suitable for recycling Rank D: Hinder recycling even with small volume

JFPI is working with Paper Recycling Promotion Center (NPO established by paper mills) to establish Rank Assessment Criteria and testing methods as well as certification of Recycle Compliant Printing Materials. This certification has been applied to EVA hot-melt adhesives, UV inks, labels, and PUR hot-melt glues and certified product lists can be found in JFPI website. The total number of certified products now amount to 485 products. This Recycle Oriented Printing is a guide line and there is no specific registration or application required for printing company. They are responsible for issuing Material Confirmation Notes to clients which indicate what material are used in the printing. Thus in order to provide Recycle Oriented Printing to clients, a printer is only required to use materials which are certified as Recycle Compliant Printing Materials so that implementation is quite easy.
