Interrogated by FS.Released on condition that he reported to FS regulary.Arrested by 23 FSS, and sent to 033 Civilian Interrogation Camp.

TEMPORARY ENGAGENENT WITH THE GESTAPO.

5. ' When the Party came to Power in 1933, Subject was approached by Krim Sek.WOLDEIT, official of the Gestapo, who promised him during the course of conver-sation, to give him a good position in the Gestapo. He was transferred to theGestapo, Prinz AIbrechtstra and was engaged in the information office also doingguard and Dauerdienst. He stttes taht his engagement lasted three months, andlater he was re-transferred to the Schutzpolizei. He states that during his em-ployment with the Gestapo, he was not considered an official member, but onlyreceived the usual 20 RM's a month increase to his salary.

6. His duties with the gestapo lasted until Dec 1, 33. In Oct. 33, be becamean established Schupo official, nramoted to Hauptwachtmeister and was forced toleave the Gestapo after that Ft0;1" period, and to continue at the Schupo.(See special points para:17 )

DUTIES AS V-MANN, SD-AUSSENSTELT7 SPZDAU.

7. During his duties at the Schupo in 1936, he became aquainted with SS-Ustuf MEYER, who was at that time Dienststellen2eiter at the SD-Aussenstelle.Spandau. During the conversation MEYER decided that he could trust Subject,and offered him the position as SD-V-Mann. Subject was informed that his dutieswould consist of collecting infolmation about the political views of members ofthe Schupo, and the forwarding thereof to the SD-Aussenstelle Spandau. He wasalso informed that this work would be voluntary with NO payment, and would inno way interfere with his Schupo duties.

Subject also states that on two or three occasions during the month he had toattend conferences at the SD-tkussenstelle Spandau, and was then usually inter'-viewed by SS-Ustuf MEYER who gave him his orders. Subject knew that severalSchupo officials in the department were also engaged as V-Manner, personnelknown by Subject to have been such, are mentioned in Appendix.

TRANSFER TO PialIZEI-BATAILION.

In September 1939, he was compulsorily transferred to Polizei-Batel li on 9,Berlin-Spandau. This Bat allion had been newly formed with the purpose of useas Occupational Police Force. Several other Schupo officials were transferredat the same time. The Batallion consisted of 4 Companies, each being 150 menstrong, and equipped with machine guns, pistols and Motorised transport. Soonafter joining this Bat allion, he underwent infantry field training, coveringthe use of firearms, the course however primarily emphasised Police duties.All members of this Bats -I -lion were dressed in ordinary Schutzpolizei uniformwith their normal rank.

In Nov 39, the whole Bata:Ilion moved to PRAGUE. Upon their arrival theywere quartered In the Landforstlichen Museum, and remained there two days stand.ingApy. Later a propaganda march took place in the city in order to Show thecitizens "The strenght of the German Police". At that time there were students'riots, and this Batnllion guarded the University and was responsible for themaintanance of order in PRAGUE. This eAlties lasted three weeks, when the wholeBatallion was sent back to Berlin, being quartered in the Berlin-SchanebergKaserne.

1 1. -April 1940, the Batnllion was re-organised into groups of 50, with thepurpose of transfer to NORWAY. Upon their arrival in NORWAY, they finally werestationed in an empty school building in OSLO. They were soon given their orders,and divided into small sections, carrying out Guard Duties & Street patrolling,in the neighbourhood of official buildings. In their spare time, they drilledand carried out normal exercio-3s. Six weeks later, Subject was attached to anMG convoy, Abteilung Fernsprecher Sterrungsucher near OSLO. With this convoythey patrolled the Norwegian-Swedish border. Subject was engaged there as aclerk until February 41.

Feb. 41, the BatAiiion was replaced by another. Batnilion newly arrivedfrom SUDETENLAND, and they returned to Berlin by train. Upon his arrival inBerlin, he was granted three weeks leave, and during this period he was dischar,,Tu,ged from the Batpllion, and given per.aission to rejoin the Schutzpolizei.Subject states that a11 Schupo officials over 40, with a long service in theSchupo, were discharged from his Batnllion. He was able, after leave to jointhe 145 Pol Revier, Berlin-Siemensstadt, as Boamter zur besonderen Verwendung.His duties here consisted of investigation of street acadents, traffic offencesetc. With the date of re-joining the Schur° he continu . ;d his V-Mann activitiesin the aforementioned capacity. In April 1943, he was 1.1.vuoted to Meister.

13. NOTE: Subject states that after his discharge in Mar-.h 4.1, the Batn)lionreceived-further field training in Berlin, and were then sent to theEastern Front as Special Einsatzpolizei. It is known to Subject fromhearsay that this Batallion carried out during their stay in RUSSIA,the shooting of civilian suspects i and general War Crimes. DUTIES AS LUFTSCHUTZSACHBEARBEITER.

14. In Jun 44, he became Luftschutzsachbearbeiler at 143 Pol. Revier. Hestates that this position was given him when his predecessor was transferred,His duties consisted of supervision of air-raid shelters, especially those inIndustrial factories in certain quarters in Berlin. Also dealt with the comp-iling lists or air-raid officials in these factories. Apart from these.duties,he advioed the areas concerning 143 & 145 Ptlizei Revier, reburial of air-raidvictims. (Subject states that he also had to sent in certain reports to theSDeAussenstelle re-air raids,, number of eRP officials in factories etc.)

SS-COURT and REASON FOR SUBJECTS' TRANSFER TO POSEN.

15. In Aug 44, his first wife committed suicide and Sub 'twas suspected ofbeing responsible for her action. As all major offences eedlaeleupo officialwere tried 'et the SS-Court, Subject was suspected being reierensiele for bizwife's action, he was brought before the SS-Court and as a result of the in-vestigation, he was compulsory transferred fram Berlin.

SPECIAL POINTS.

16. Subject admitted that he was a "Nazi Idealist" even before the Nazis cameto power, hence his rush to join as a paying member in 1932. He also was amember of the Sk in 1932, and due to his engagement with the Schutzpolizei hewas unable to carry out Sk duties, and therefore discharged fram the at, in 1933,He left the Church voluntar?4y in 1926. Joined the NSV in 1933.

17. His connection with the Gestapo have been admitted. by him, also that hevolunteered for this work, in order to gain security. However, it is remark-able that avenso he was only an unofficial member for three months, at the endof which he was re-transferred to the Schupo. subject states that in Oct 33,he became an established Schupo official, and promoted to Hauptwachtmeister andwas forced -to leave the Gestapo after three months service, and continued atthe Schupo. The statement by Subject that he was only in the Gestapo threemonths unofficially, appears unreliable, althogh there is NO proof to thecontrary.

in18. Subject's engagement with the SD was/a voluntary capacity, and as he stat-

ed, he was fully trusted, and found enough reliable for the duties as a V-Mann.He carried out these duties from 1936-39, and then continued from 1941 upon hisengagement at 143 Pol Revier, untill4.o. transfer to POSEN in Dec 1944.

lg. Subject's present wife Lily nee HIRSCH, who has been separated from himfor a year, and who now awaits her divorce, was interviewed by the interrogatorin order to check Subject's statement re his history and activities. As a re-sult of the interview, she stated' that Subject had NO SS connections, andnever wore SS uniform. His police career as Meister dor Schutzpolizei continueduntil the Capitulation. Frau HIRSCH has NO detailed knowledge of his work withthe Gestapo & SD, having known him only since 1 943-44, when she was married.She gives him the character of a fanatic Nazi Idea7ist.

20. • There still remains doubt concerning SUbject's aotivities, but his engage-ment with the Gestapo & SD as V-Mann, brings him within the Automatic ArrestCategory, ectivit'iea ere considered being more then of minor importance.
