Terraria uses pixel art as a main art style. The creators have chosen to be very detailed in their style, thus creating beautiful looking environments and characters. The majority of objects contain pixel shading techniques that can be seen in the image below. If you look closely at the hair and shirt, you can spot areas in which and reflecting light and areas in the shadows.

Starbound is very similar to Terraria in terms of

art style, however, it contains a lot more

detailed environments and objects. It uses pixel

shading techniques, similar to Terraria, to show

depth.

A Link to the Past also only uses pixel art. It

uses strong colours to portray feelings for

landscapes. For example, in grassy areas

around the forest for example, bright, vibrant

grass is used to convey peace, but in areas

around a dungeon, bleaker, duller colours are

used.

Fire Emblem: Awakening combines 2D sprites with

small 3D worlds and anime. In gameplay, the 2D

characters move around a small 3D battlefield to

battle each other. This art style works well as it is

unique and I believe the sprites fit in with the 3D

world. When characters talk to each other however, a

more detailed, anime themed character appears and a

textbox. Characters also show emotions.

Braids art style was painted on a 2D image

creation software such as Adobe Illustrator. The

artist used professional softwares such as that,

and digitally painted all of the art for the game.

Type of Character Description

Swordsman

A close-combat fighter who combines speed and

strength to attack

Archer

A ranged fighter who fights from a-far. Quick to load and

fire.

Mage

A character that uses magic and spells. Spells vary it

type, speed and damage.

Spearman

A slow fighter who is good at fighting cavalry and

keeping the enemy at a distance

Dwarf

A small character who has fast movement speed

Type of Character Description

Axeman

Similar to the swordsman, but deals damage with an

axe that is usually stronger than a sword, but slower

than one.

Crossbowman

Slower to load and fire than the bowman, but stronger.

Ninja/Stealth

Relies on agility and stealth. Usually have low HP and

fast attacks.

Brawler

Very tough unit. Hard-hitter and high HP but low range

for attacks.

Hammer wielder

Attacks with a large hammer. Much slower than the

axeman, but deals the most damage out of the

swordsman, axeman and hammer wielder.
