PASTOR’S POTPOURRI – THE TRANSFIGURA-TION

Each year on the Second Sunday of Lent we remember the Transfiguration of the Lord. As we welcome Father Foley for the Lenten Mission we are given the chance to listen to the Beatitudes from the perspective of the Jubi-lee Year of Mercy. We thank God for sending Father Foley to us. May many of us take advantage of this time for renewal and reflection.

Before Jesus goes to the cross he is validated by the Fa-ther once more as the disciples are overcome with fear at the theophany of the voice of God. In addition, we have present Moses, the great lawgiver and Elijah, the great prophet. Jesus sets off to the mountain with Peter, James and John. And typical with Luke’s gospel, Jesus is presented as a person of prayer. We have received the call to pray during Lent. Let us pray for the Elect and Candidates, not only at St. Jude but for those coming in-to the Church throughout the world. We can pray alone or with others. Perhaps this week you could make the Stations of the Cross, either with the community on Fri-day or on your own. Let us also pray for those who are away from the Church that they may come home for Easter.

— Fr. Bob

Pick up your family’s rice bowl from the Gathering Space on Feb 13/14th and don’t forget to download the CRS Rice Bowl app! Remember, what you give up for Lent changes lives.

Symbolon: During Lent we especially recall the suffering and death of Jesus. This is also a

time for us to examine the things that we have done that hurt God, ourselves and others. God under-stands that we all fall short and because of His wonderful MERCY we can be forgiven. Come to the Youth Cen-ter WED. 2/24 at 4:15 to see a film and discuss the sac-raments of Penance and Anointing of the sick.

During Lent, St. Jude will once again be hosting a shoe drive for Soles4Souls. Look for the collection box-es in the back of church and in the community center and donate your unwanted shoes. Donate shoes of any size and any condition. No shoe collected will end up in a land fill. Your shoes will travel the globe and end where they are needed most. In many coun-tries, walking is the primary source of transportation. Help make a difference in someone’s life.

Movie Night is this Sunday, Feb 21st at 6:00 p.m. in the Lower Level of the Community Center. Stop by and enjoy the show.

The movie will be Solanus Casey– Priest, Porter and Prophet.

Our Lenten mission begins Feb 20th-25th with Rev. J. Patrick Foley. The Mission will be about The Beatitudes: Jesus’ Eight-Step Program to Happiness. From the perspective of the year of Mercy.

We will have a conference in the Worship Space following morning Mass and in the evenings at 7:00 p.m. Please join us for refreshments in the church basement following the talks on the 22-25th.

We look forward to having you join us on this Lenten journey! _____________________________________ Join us every Friday during Lent at 7:00pm for Stations of the Cross Traditional Stations: February 12, 19 & 26 and March 18 Living Stations: March 4 & 11 with the music of “One Step Closer” presented by St. Jude Youth Ministry and Music Ministry February 19 and 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. Interactive Stations for families.
