The opportunities of e commerce can be applied in following areas:-

1. Business to business (b2b)It is possible through extranet, based on (wan) wide area network it is mainly used tobuild supply chain the applications are as

a. Supplier management :these application help companies to reduce the number ofsuppliers and facilitate business partnerships

b. Stock mgmt: inventory levels can be managed when clients are linked electronicallyinformation can be sent through mail or fax.

c. Distribution : it facilitate the transmission of shipping documents such as bill oflading purchase orders etc and enable better resource management.

2. Business to clients (b2c)a. Social portals : e- commerce applications enable customers to find online catalogues

information about the arrival of new products customers can communicate throughemail and news groups

b. Transaction portals: here all transactions like buying and selling goods all are donethrough online and ensures secure payments.

3. Within businessa. Work group communication: it helps managers to communicate to their respective

group, its aim is to inform to their employees through email video conferencing and

bulletin boards.

b. Collaborative publishing: it helps to organize and publish human resource manualproduct specification using tools as www its aim is to enable better planning and to

take tactical decision.

Process of e commerce transactions

1. The cardholder browses items the merchant has for sale2. The card holder decides which of the items to purchase3. The card holder is presented with an invoice containing the list of items and their price4. The card holder selects as a means of payment5. The card holder gives the merchant order conformation along with the means of payment.6. The merchant requires authorization for the purchase7. The merchant delivers goods to the card holder .
