BAPTISMS

Daughter of Andrea McCauley-Toth and Matthew Toth
In our winter series, “NEW YEAR’S REVOLUTION”, we are addressing behaviors that many people seek to change, especially in the context of beginning a “New Year”. This coming week, Small Groups will discuss the challenge of what and how we speak. In addition to our Sunday Gospel discussion and our shared prayer, we will view the following YouTube and discuss questions that will help shed light on it in our own daily lives: Fr. Mike Schmitz on “Venting or Gossip?” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZrsOmxPQpw
Three
Questions:
IS IT TRUE? IS IT KIND? DOES IT NEED TO BE SAID?
Little Rock Bible Study
We are starting a new study on Tuesday, Jan. 23 on Paul’s captivity letters.
Please join us on Tuesdays in Room 103 at 1:00 pm. Books will be available.
No prior Bible Study is required. All are welcome!

Thank you for donating appliances and furniture
Our parishioners generously donate used appliances,
furniture and household items in wonderful condition. Instead
of going to a landfill, the donated items go to needy families
in Medina County at no charge, and they appreciate your
generosity very much. Those items went to 125 families in
2015, 150 families in 2016, and over 200 families in 2017.
During those deliveries, each family receives a blessing and is
asked to say a prayer for the donors. They are given a church
bulletin and are invited to Mass and events in the bulletin.
They are given flyers regarding food distributions and social
services.
Helpers are always welcome, especially those with pickup
trucks or trailers. Interested helpers and donors can contact
Ron Maitland at 330-722-3373 and
[email protected]. Please know that you are in our
daily prayers.
EAT YOUR VEGETABLES!
Think church is just a bunch of rules? Tonight, HMLT invites you to consider why we believe the Church can speak
with the authority of Jesus Christ in her teachings and how the Church wants
you to be happy.

LET'S GO TO THE HOLY LAND!
Back in August, we began exploring the possibility of a pilgrimage to the Holy Land this coming summer.
Since then, Fr. Mark has been working with a highly regarded pilgrimage company to develop the itinerary, so
we are happy to announce that the trip is now planned and nearly ready for registration!
The pilgrimage will be from June 10-19, 2018. It will include 8 full days of visiting all of the major sites of
Jesus' life around Galilee and Jerusalem. Stops include Bethlehem, Nazareth and the Mount of Olives.
Information sheets with full details are available at the Welcome Center.
Second Collection for Catholic University
Today’s special second collection is for The
Catholic University of America, founded by the
bishops of this country and chartered by Pope Leo
XIII.
Your contributions will strengthen the work of our
top scholars, many of whom help to explain
Catholic social teaching to the rest of the world. It
will also support scholarships for students in our
diocese and others in achieving our mission of
preparing the next generation of leadership for our
Church and nation – including those studying to
become our future priests and
religious. We appreciate your generosity.
You can learn more at: collection.cua.edu.
This Is Food and Donation Weekend
This weekend is Holy Martyrs Ministry of Assistance
food and donation weekend. Please watch for food sale
items that can be donated to those in need. Though
food collection weekends are the third weekend of each
month, food donations are accepted at any time. Certain
staples are always needed, like pasta and spaghetti
sauce, cereal, tuna, peanut butter, soups and canned
vegetables. Checks made out to Holy Martyrs with
Ministry of Assistance (MOA) on the memo line are
always welcome.

Women’s Outreach Starts in February
The Latina Project, a new outreach by the women of
Holy Martyrs, involves working with our sister parish,
La Sagrada Familia, to provide a meal once a month
during a support meeting for women who are
survivors of domestic violence.
You can help by providing part of a light meal,
interacting with the women or babysitting during
their meeting. The first meeting is Feb. 12.
Please contact Diane Bruce at
[email protected] if you would like to receive
a signup email for providing part of a meal regularly
or from time to time. Food would need to be
dropped off at Holy Martyrs Sunday through 3 p.m.
Monday before each meeting.
This is part of our expanding parish outreach to link
our parishioners to those in need.
Service Project Competition Continues
Have you sent in your photos for the “Father, Help Me to Serve” competition?
A prize will be awarded to the class that has the highest percentage of students who completed a
service project by Jan. 8/9. We’ll award prizes in late January because of the Jan. 8 class cancellation.
A prize will be awarded to a group of three families or more who do a service project together. Take a
group photo (by Feb. 14) of the three families while they are doing the service project. Then, submit the
photo for the contest.
A prize will be awarded to the family that has done the most original service project by March 1.
For ideas, see a list of 100 service project ideas on our website. Don’t forget to bring in a picture of your
family working on a service project.
Second Grade Eucharist Retreat
All second grade parents should have received an
email with a signup for the Eucharist Retreat. If
you did not see this email in your inbox, check
your "junk" inbox.
Eucharist Retreat dates are Saturday, Jan. 27 from
12:30-2:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 28 from 12:30-
2:30 p.m.
Reminders for Confirmation candidates:
Choose a Confirmation sponsor. Your sponsor
will need a letter from his or her parish.
Materials in the brown envelope are due at the
Jan. 30 meeting.
Laying on of Hands
This month, the young people of the parish who
are preparing for Confirmation reflected on the gift
of the Holy Spirit who is invoked by the bishop at
the Confirmation celebration.
The sevenfold Gifts of the Holy Spirit are a way of
expressing how rich and multifaceted the presence
of the Holy Spirit is in the life of the Church.
How do we as a parish use the Gifts of the Holy
Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge,
Counsel, Fortitude, Reverence, Wonder and Awe) to
continue the mission of Christ?

Helping the Church in El Salvador/Latin America
Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Church
in El Salvador/Latin America.
This is the only appeal that supports the Latin
American Mission in El Salvador. It is the main
support for two priests who work in the parishes our
missionaries serve.
This appeal also supports the USCCB’s Church in Latin
America Collection. For many in Latin America and the
Caribbean, rural terrain and a lack of ministers are
obstacles to practicing their faith. Your support provides
lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly and religious
formation, as well as other programs to help share our
faith with those who long to hear the Good
News of Christ.
