Completing the Square is a process that allows you to write an expression of the form 

x2 + bx as the square of a binomial.

Take the square root of both sides

x2 ­ 6x + 13 = 0x2 ­ 6x = ­13x2 ­ 6x + 9 = ­13 + 9(x ­ 3)2 = ­4√(x ­ 3)2 = √-4x-3=±2ix=3±2i
