LK 2 SEATTLE’I EESTLASTE TEATED

Meie tegevus aasta 2016 ehk Seattle Eesti Seltsi põnevad tegemised ja olemised

Aasta 2016 on lõppemas. See on olnud tegus aasta ning palju põnevat ja uut on toimunud. Siis teeme ka väikese kokkuvõtte siin Teadetes, Seattle Eesti Seltsi tegevustest.

Aasta algas Eesti Vabariigi sünnipäeva tähistamisega, kus esines nii Seattle Laste Pillerkaar, Tuhandest Tuulest tantsijad ning meie tore koor laulis

paar laulu. Liina- Ly Roos rääkis eesti keele arengust ja selle õpetamisest UWs . Austati sõjas langenuid ja süüdati küünlad meie seast lahkunutele. Seattle Eesti tänukiri läks seekord Laste Pillerkaarile nende meelelahutusliku esinemiste eest.

Emadepäeva tähistati 10nendal mail, Läti Majas. Laste Pillerkaar esitas koos Tuhandest Tuulest emadele toredaid tantse ja laule. Pakuti kohvi ja maitsvaid maiustusi.

Kevad oli täis tegevust ja toimetusi. Laste Pillerkaaril käis külas Vanemuise Teatri trupp Tartust. Nad esitasid etenduse “Appi, Ooper!” kus tutvustati nii noortele ja vanadele ooperi ajalugu , kuidas see eestis alguses sai ja kuhu see siis nüüd jõudnud on. Lapsed said ka osa võtta etenudsest ja peale etendust küsimusi esitada.

Juunikuus jälle käis külas Animation Generation Tallinna NUKU Filmi stuudiost. Nad õpetasi lastele kuidas pikellatsiooni ja stop animatsiooni tehakse.

Ning lasped said esilinastusel vaadata oma tehtud filme.

Peale multifilmide tegemist said lapsed hinge tõmmata, kuna oli väga kaunis päikese paistline päev siis loomulikult pidi ka varbad vette pistma.

University of Washington pakkus juunikuu lõpus võimalust nautida kuulsat Eesti Rahvusooperi poistekoori esitust Kane Hallis. See oli fantastiline võimalus nautida maailma tasemel esitust noortelt poistelt kes rändasid mööda US ja tutvustasid eesti koorilaulu. Poisid said ka ringi vaadata Seattles, kus nad tutvusid Pike Place Marketiga ning laulsid oma sõidu eest Bainbridge Islandile. Nad peatusid UW ühikates kuna poisse oli 45 siis kodu majutus kahjuks seekord ei toiminud. Kuid eesti kogukonnal oli võimalus neid sponsoreerida UW Scandinavian Studies koduläheküljel.

Sügis tõi kaasa muutusi meie SESi ellu. Tuhandest Tuulest tantsijad otsustasid teha väikese pausi, kuid loodetavasti alustavad järgmisel aastal uue hooga. Laste Pillerkaar selle eest on täies hoos ja pisikesed põnnid aina kasvavad. Koolis käib 13 last, iga pühapäev Rootsi majas. Kõige noorem on hetkel 11 kuune ja vanim on 10 aastane. Laste kool algas oktoobrikuu alguses ja kus kohe hakati valmistuma Halloweeniks. Lapsed said pisikesi kõrvitsaid dekoreerida, laule ja tantse meelde tuletada ning

uus mänge mängida. Oktoobrikuu lõpus käis Laste

Pillerkaar Remlinger Farmis. See oli väga kaunis päikesepaisteline päev. Lasped said endale kõrvitsad

korjata, traktoriga sõita ning maisipõllul ekselda.

Nüüd juba valmistutakse jõuludeks, kuna aeg läheb kiiresti ja palju laule ja tantse vaja selgeks õppida enne kui jõuluvana tuleb.

Iga aastast jõulunäidendit üritatakse ka seekord kokku panna ning jõulupuu all esitada.

Laste Pillerkaar on koht kus lapsed saavad kokku

oma vanade ja uute sõpradega, õpitakse laule,

tantse ja mänge ning väga tihti lihtsalt hullatakse ja

tehakse toredaid projekte. Kõik toimub nii eesti kui

inglise keeles.

Järgmiseks aastaks on plaanitud ka laste filmi

õhtud ning muid toredaid tegemisi ja olemisi.

Nii Laste Pillerkaar kui ka Tuhandest Tuulest ootab

alati uusi liikmeid, kui on huvi siis saab ühenust

We are beginning a new year of SES events and activities. In order to make it great, we need your help. SES juhatus is recruiting volunteers to fill a number of job.

1. Seattle Eesti Seltsi Teated Newsletter comes out 4x a year. Most of the work is online, the hard copies are sent to on-ly limited number of individuals without the internet.

2. Seminar volunteers This year we will host mostly Eesti Käsitöö/ Estonian Handicrafts workshops. We are looking volunteers to help with either just one workshop or multiple ones.

3. Movie Night hosts We are looking for host to provide the space to host Estonian contemporary movies, like 1944 and the Fencer, followed by discussion.

4. Accordion player Looking for spirited and enthusiastic accordi-onist interested in accompanying informal folk songs.

5. General Goodwill volunteers. For major events set up and clean up

After almost 25 years serving as the SES treasur-er, Kaljo Konsa is taking a well deserved rest. On November 13, he handed over the SES BOOKS and financial statements to the newly elected treasurer, Jon Mihkels.

While Kaljo will be sorely missed, we look forward to working with Jon.

Eesti valis uue presidendi 3ndal oktoobril, 2016. Vabariigi presidendiks valituks osutub kandidaat, kui tema poolt hääletab riigikogu koosseisu 2/3 enamus ehk kui ta saab vähemalt 68 häält. Seega tunnistas vabariigi valimiskomisjon valituks Kersti Kaljulaidi. Hääletamisest võttis osa 98 saadikut, ristiga märgistamata hääletamissedeleid oli 17. Kohal polnud keskerakondlasi Rein Ratast (puudub tervislikel põhjustel), Siret Kotkat ja Martin Repinskin. Kaljulaid tänas parlamenti usalduse, talle antud allkirjade ja häälte eest. «Meie koostöö tuleb sõbralik ja hea, selles olen täna täiesti veendunud. See on suurepärane kapital, mida võtta siit kaasa Kadriorgu,» ütles ta riigikogu ees. Kuna parlament ja valimiskogu ei suutnud viie hääletusvooru jooksul presidenti ära valida, langes see ülesanne esimest korda Eesti ajaloos uuesti riigikogu liikmete õlule. Esmaspäeval, järjekorras juba kuuendas hääletusvoorus, oli kandidaate vaid üks – Euroopa Kontrollikoja senine liige Kersti Kaljulaid. Tema kandidatuuri toetas oma allkirjaga suisa 90 riigikogu liiget. Uus president astus viieks aastaks ametisse 10. Oktoobril 2016.

CONSUL’S CORNER

Last Spring, our Consul General in New York City sent Consul Rita Melder back out to Seattle to pro-cess fingerprints and accept Estonian passport ap-plications and renewals. We had a very productive visit as nearly 30 applications were processed dur-ing our office hours.

I would like to remind everyone that has an Estoni-an passport that you can apply for a renewal at any time within 6 months of your passport’s expiration. Information about applying for a passport or renew-al is available at http://www.nyc.estemb.org/consular_information/passport. And, it is important to keep in mind that as an Honorary Consul, I am unable to take fingerprints and therefore, you must make an appointment directly in New York City, Tallinn or at another Estonian Consulate General’s office such as in Ottawa, Canada. The only excep-tion is when the Consul from New York visits us here in Seattle or at one of the other Honorary Con-sulates on the West Coast.

We do not yet know if the Consul from New York will again visit us in 2017 for the purpose of taking fingerprints and applications.

In other news, we do expect a visit from our new Estonian Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Ee-rik Marmei, sometime next Spring. We had request-ed that he possibly speak at our upcoming Inde-pendence Day Celebration. However, he already had commitments elsewhere. If and when he does visit us next Spring, expect an announcement about a reception for him with the Estonian community to be held at my home.

Over the last few years an intrepid band of west coast Estonian cyclist and friends, led by Tom Na-pa, have traveled the rainy west coast of Ireland and the sunny and welcoming plains of the Italian Vene-to.

Their latest adventure took them to Slovenia. In Slovenia, they toured fantastical caves and castles carved into hillsides. Traveling from the temperate plains to the Mediterranean coast, the final days of the trip found them swimming in the Adriatic, in-dulging in massive amounts of gelato, and discover-ing shanty beer.

The exploration of Slovenia proved a great success with everyone looking forward to the next trip.

Nüüdseks juba traditsiooniks saanud, Rakveres keskväljakul on jälle paigaltatud tore, omapärane jõulupuu. Seekord on see mehaaniliselt liikuv hammasrataskega ja vahelduvate tuledega. Eeslmine aasta oli jõulupuu ehitatud kasutatud akendest.

The Verivorst will be served at our Estonian Christmas Celebration to benefit the SES and all our activities including dancers, singers, and laste kool.

Please let me know if you can help out by making stuffing. We do not want to disappoint people who want to purchase some for their own celebration.

In year’s past Katrine Veanes, Epp Liikane, Kristi Urv, Karen Gruver, Tiia-Mai Reddit and Tiina Oviir have made heavenly stuffing. Please find

the basic stuffing recipes below and let me know if you would like to volunteer this year.

STUFFING

1.5 lb barley boil in water until soft

About 1- 1.5 lb of pork cooked and cut into cubes( about 0.5 lb pork cheek or pork belly)

( Or bacon cut into cubes and fried with chopped onion and garlic

2 chopped onions

Majoram, laurel leaves, black pepper

We will add blood right before we start stuffing

150g suhkrut

2tl kaneeli

1tl nelki

1-2spl riivitud sidruni/apelsini koort

150-200g margariini

2 muna

1-,2 kg jahu

1tl söögisoodat

1tl küpsetuspulbrit

Siirup kuumutatakse koos suhkru ja margariiniga. Pool jahtunule siirupile lisatakse maitseained ja lastakse jahtuda. Segatase kokku kuivained. Jahtunule siirupile lisatake muna ja jahu, segatakse. Keeratakse kila sisse ja pannakse jahedasse kohta seisma vähemalt 24 tunniks.
