Giorgetto Giugiaro Born in Italy in 1938, Giugiaro began his career at the age of 17 at the Fiat Style Centre. At 21, he went to the Bertone Styling Centre. In 1968, he went freelance and soon established Italdesign Corporation. In 1981, he founded Giugiaro Design company. His numerous and prestigious designs have earned him a reputation as one of the world’s leading designers.

Contessa – the genius of Italian design made perfect by Japanese technology. The result, the next generation of mesh seating. Contessa was designed to relieve stress and enhance a smarter working style. It was developed in collaboration with Giorgetto Giugiaro, a leader in Italian industrial design. Contessa features ‘Smart Operation’, a revolutionary function combining comfort with intuitive control adjustment for natural seating positions.

Ergonomic design & concept

The elegant and natural form of Contessa’s aluminum frame is perhaps it’s most arresting feature. The wide mesh back design effortlessly conforms to any posture for a perfect fit. Giugiaro’s quest for the lightest and thinnest possible frame design and Okamura’s expertise come together to set a new standard for office chair comfort and personal style.

The Contessa series features comfortable seating and a synchro-reclining mechanism, as well as Okamura’s own “smart operation” that enables the user to make adjustments to match the user’s natural posture while sitting. Levers at the front of the armrests adjust the seat height and reclining angle, achieving a level of comfort and ease of use far superior to other office chairs.

The lumbar support gives your back comfortable support. You can adjust the lumbar support backward and forward up to 15mm, and up and down up to 60mm

The chair rolls on large-diameter 75mm casters to minimize resistance when moving while seated and reduces strain on the lower back

You can precisely set the headrest up and down as well as forward and backward to fit your favourite and most relaxing position of the neck

You can easily adjust the seat height up to a maximum of 130mm with the lever in the right armrest

You can easily adjust the ratchet style armrest up to 100mm while sitting

A newly developed mesh reduces fatigue from long hours of work

A dial for adjusting rocking resistance enables you to set the reclining resistance to meet your body shape and posture while sitting

You can adjust the arm pads up to 30˚ (20˚ inward & 10˚ outward) to give you comfortable elbow support when using a computer or doing other tasks

The left armrest lever adjusts reclining angle. You can choose either free rocking or your favourite angle (in five positions)

You can easily adjust the reclining angle with the lever located in the left armrest

A lever positioned underneath seat for easy reach enables you to easily slide the seat backward or forward up to 50mm
