Principal’s Message 2020 Student Reports – Pupil Free Day Monday 2nd November At the Pupil Free Day next week our staff will continue the end of year student data and reporting processes. Please note that that the 2020 reports will not include a ‘days of attendance’ total for students due to ‘flexible remote learning’ from home. The reports will include a comment on student engagement, learning and partici-pation during remote learning phase two and face to face learning to clearly indicate their attitude to learn-ing and their personal capabilities. Book Week Parade – Friday 30th October Please encourage your child to dress up and bring along their favourite book. Older students can create a book poster if they do not wish to dress up. We will share photos of the day via the newsletter and Facebook. This is a student and staff only event due to COVID-19. Happy World Teachers Day, 30 October. ‘The COVID-19 crisis created a unique situation for teacher leadership, creativity and innovation to be demonstrated.’ (UNESCO concept note) This year’s theme for World Teachers Day, 'Teachers: leading in crisis, reimagining the future', is a timely reflection on the commitment our teachers have made as educational leaders, particularly during the corona-virus (COVID-19) pandemic, but it also points to the creativity and innovation that will take us forward. Each year World Teachers Day offers us an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the teaching profes-sion. I am so proud to support and recognise teacher for their skills, expertise and impact in 2020. ‘We join the rest of the nation in celebrating educators across Aus-tralia’ – (Bastow DET Educational Leadership Insti-tute). Staffing Update Year 3/4/5 classroom teacher and our school Learning and Teaching Leader, Audra Lawes will be on sick leave until the end of November. Casual Relief Teacher (CRT), Helen Lucas commenced taking the class this week and has agreed to take the class until the end of November. This is a change for students and staff are working together to ensure the continuity of the learn-ing programs in the Year 3/4/5 classroom. Prep 2021 Transition We were so pleased to host the first of five Prep 2021 Transition visits on Wednesday. The next session is Wednesday 4th November 9:15 – 1:40pm. It was won-derful to see our Year 5 Buddies supporting our new students throughout the morning. Year 7 Transition Phoenix Transition Teacher will be visiting our school again in the near future to meet with Year 6 and answer any of their Year 7 Transition questions. School Council Meeting – Tuesday 10th November 9:45am The meeting will include a school tour; School Finance

June – September; 2021 Parent Charges and School organisation, Grounds update and a review of new con-tracts for the School Photocopier. My thanks to all of the 2020 School Council members. COVID-19 Safe Halloween (Courier – 29th Oct 2020) The main message to trick-or-treaters is you cannot knock on doors for Halloween on Saturday and cele-brating at home is the safest option. DHHS is also warning that Halloween is not an opportunity to flout face mask guidelines in the name of a scary costume. "Wear a face mask with your costume, but remember that a costume mask that is part of your Halloween cos-tume is not a substitute for a face mask. Consider mak-ing your own mask and decorating it," DHHS said. "Keep at least 1.5 metres between yourself and people you don't live with. This means no hugging or kissing when greeting people. Don't share food or drinks." "Coronavirus is still with us and celebrating at home is the safest way to mark Halloween this year," the De-partment of Health and Human Services' guidelines read.

Don't use communal bowls for lollies or sweets. Putting lollies in a shared bowl will mean everyone is touching the same food and surfaces, which isn't safe.

Instead, put individually wrapped lollies or candy in bags for non-contact collection.

Place bags on your fence, at your front gate or out-side your home for collection.

Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before preparing the bags or individual-ly wrapped lollies or candy.

Have a Halloween party outside in a public place. You can catch up with a group of up to ten people (including yourself). Babies under 12 months age aren't included in the ten-person limit. An outdoor public place means an area accessible to everyone, including local parks and beaches. Please do not access the school grounds for this.

Do a Halloween scavenger hunt by giving children a list of Halloween-themed things to look for as they walk outdoors from house to house admiring Halloween decorations at a distance. Just like eye-spy! The limit of ten people (including yourself) applies to scavenger hunts.

Carve or decorate pumpkins with members of your household.

Have a virtual costume party or party with friends and family on video chat.

Have a Halloween movie night with your house-hold.

Have a great week and enjoy Melbourne Cup Day at home together

PARENT OPINION SURVEY

WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst all parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student be-haviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey

results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 12th October to Friday 13th November.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient

time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will

be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin

(Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

The survey results will be communicated to parents through the 2020 annual report.

Link and password to the Parent Opinion Survey will be sent home in a sealed envelope.
