Palm Beach State College STEM Community Outreach

Palm Beach State College participated in the Neuroscience Discovery Day at Max Planck In-

stitute of Neuroscience. PBSC biotech was on hand to show how to use a microscope, how bacteria digest virus DNA, how to use a micro pipet and load agarose gels. Thanks to Max

Planck's Dr. Ana Fiallos for inviting us, and for the hands on labs run by PBSC's Dr. Mercer, Dr. Nelson Daniels Chemistry Professor, and Biotech students Leticia Gnazzo and Rebecca

Stremel. A photo of our activity booth at Max Planck's Neuroscience Discovery Day made the first page of a newspaper section. Read the story here.

This holiday season give yourself the gift of a hands-on education that leads to career opportu-

nities in biomedical research, R&D, drug discovery, manufacturing, and medical devices. We

have 19-credit and 61-credit program. Sign up for classes today! Biology (BSC1010/L), Chemis-

try (CHM1045/L), Intro to Biotech (BSC2421/L), Bioinformatics (BSC2435), and more!

Affordable and close to home. Online and evening classes available.

PALM BEACH STATE COLLEGE BIOTECHNOLOGY

Have your "Over the next five years, I see myself..." elevator pitch rehearsed and ready to fire. No more than 60 seconds. One or two sentences if possible.

The Countess has arrived to PBSC Biotechnology!

The Spring Intro to Tissue Culture course (BSC2416C) will be learning how to use this instrument for counting

cells and determining transfection efficiencies.

The Countess® II FL Automated Cell Counter is a bench-top cell assay platform equipped with state-of-the-art

optics and image analysis software for rapid assessment of cells in suspension. It has fluorescence capabili-

ties—bright-field and two optional fluorescence channels—researchers can count cells, monitor fluorescent pro-

tein expression, and measure cell viability. http://www.lifetechnologies.com/us/en/home/brands/product-brand/countess-automated-cell-counter.html

Attention Students, Teachers, and Scientists.

Bioinformatics is now offered completely online! Bioinformatics is

the application of information technology to the field of molecular biolo-

gy. In this course, the student will gain an opportunity to analyze prima-

ry data using bioinformatics tools and learn what they mean in a biologi-

cal context. The student will also learn what databases are used when with DNA, RNA, or protein such as Pub-

Med, Blast, and GenBank, depending on your research needs. This will allow you to further analyze the results

obtained in the laboratory. Sign up today! More information here.
