1) Click Search in the menuand choose Keyword

2) In the dialogue box Keyword Search, type keywords.

Keyword means a word contained in catalogue record (in fields: title, place of publication, publisher, subject, etc.). In this kind of search, words from theauthor field (name of author) are not included.

NOTE:Boolean operators enable you to combine terms. The operator AND helps you choose documents containing both search terms; OR brings up documents containing any of the search terms; NOT allows you to find documents containing the first search term but not the second

3) Choose a combination ofkeywords and click twice

NOTE 2:In our example the computer found books from the publisher „Secesja”, connected with art,together with books about Secession art

4) Find the desired title on the title list

NOTE 1:Go to the next/previous screen using blue arrows

5) Choose the desired title and clicktwice

NOTE:In our example catalogue shows information about 2 items. The first is in open stacks in BUW, and the second is in the Library of the Institute of Art History.

7) In the field CLAS NUMBERyou can find the Library of Congress call number. This shows where the book is located in the open stacks

NOTE:First letters of the call number show the subject area; numbers represent subdivisions of subject

8) With the call number go to the propersubject area and subdivision. You can find yoursubject area on the map located on each level and the subdivision on subject area map

Final remarks

NOTE 2:Not all books and serials have records in the on-line catalogue. To find them, you should also search the card catalogues

NOTE 3:There are no call numbers (Library of Congress Classification) in card catalogues. Therefore you should always start searching from the on-line catalogue

NOTE 1:You do not need a requisition form to borrow a book from open stacks. If you can borrow the book go directly to the Circulation Desk
