National Taiwan University of Science & Technology (NTUST) Student Dormitory Network Usage Regulations Approved at the 57 th meeting of the computer committee Dec 26,1996 Amended at the 73 rd meeting of the computer committee Jan 16,2003 Amended by the 74 th meeting of the computer committee Dec 4,2003 1. The purpose to establish these regulations is to efficiently manage the dormitory network resources, which provides boarding students with TANet resources. 2. The Student Dormitory Network offers switch ports and wireless connections for students to connect to the campus network. Students have to prepare equipment such as personal computer, network adapter, hub, wireless adapter and UTP patch cord …etc. to connect to the Internet. 3. Boarding student can apply an IP address for their computer. When applying the service, network adapter hardware address (MAC address) is required to be indicated on the application form in order to bind the IP address with the MAC address by Computer Center (hereinafter called CC) faculties and the traffic is controlled by the CC when needed. If network adapter is changed during the school session, students are required to submit a new application with new MAC address provided. 4. For research or study needs, boarding students who intend to install any permanent online server that consume or generate large amount of traffic will have to file an application form to get approval from the CC. Students who failed to ask for approval will be suspended from using the IP address as well as applying the service for 3 months. 5. Students, who found using others IP address in the dormitory network, the first offender would be ceased from using all the facilities in the CC and referred to their advising professors or their supervisors. Recidivists will be punished in accordance with relevant regulations by the Office of Student Affairs as well as called off the residency qualification. 6. Each dormitory has a “Dormitory Network Manager” who is selected by the CC and posted on the NTUST BBS “Dormitory Network Board” after every semester begins.

1. The purpose to establish these regulations is to efficiently manage the dormitory network resources,

which provides boarding students with TANet resources.

7. Students can report to the CC during the office hour, or to the “Dormitory Network Manager” during the

nighttime if problems occurred on dormitory network.

8. Students are forbidden to send out any minacious, commercial, and pirated data, damage network cables

and devices, or intentionally interfere network information exchange. Violators will be punished by

school in accordance with relevant school regulations as well as face the criminal sanction.

9. Please refer to the “Academic Network Usage Regulations” for any unspecified matters.

10. These regulations come into effect upon the approval of the Computer Committee. Amendments to these

regulations should follow the same procedure.
