Chapter 1 General

1.1 Overview of AN-NM-VIEW

AN-NM-VIEW network management software is specially designed by our company for

management of various transmission equipment and terminal equipment manufactured, including

MSTP equipment, SDH transmission equipment, DSL equipment, and PCM terminal equipment

etc. Windows graphical interface both in Chinese and English is adopted which is easy to learn

and operate, and has clear and straight forward alarm indications. The software is an important

tool for daily maintenance and testing of network and equipment.

1.2 Features of AN-NM-VIEW

At present, management capability of AN-NM-VIEW covers a complete set of equipment

manufactured by our company, i.e. all our equipment can be managed in a centralized manner

under the same environment, so as to save user investment in manpower and material resources as

well as management costs. AN-NM-VIEW network management software has the following main

features:

� Centralized monitoring at central computer (key station). Two communication interfaces

are adopted between key station and monitored equipment:

� 4-line RS485 interface and TABS communication protocol;

� Ethernet interface and TCP/IP communication protocol, satisfying Q3 interface

protocol requirements;

� Hierarchical management mode is adopted, i.e. area>subnet>equipment>unit panel, with

clear management levels, straight forward alarms, as well as fast and convenient query.

� Monitored equipment form several subnets, each of which is allocated with a definite

subnet address and has a node (main station or main equipment) connected to the key

station. All subnet and equipment far from the key station can realize cross-network

(area) supervision and management through transmission channels or shared monitoring

channels.

� For TABS communication protocol, key station can manage up to 31 subnets at the same

time. Usually, subnet addresses range from 1 to 31, except some individual address

reserved for some application-specific equipment according to different user network

configuration. Key station adopts query mode to monitor each subnet. The query

frequency depends on number of subnets as well as equipment. Usually, the interval is in

the order of seconds.

� Maximum number of equipment on one subnet is 125 (It can be extended to 256). In

most cases, equipment address allocation starts from main station in ascending order and

address of main station equipment must be 0 for some given equipment. (Please refer to

the corresponding equipment user manual for more specific requirement.)

� This software can also be installed on portable computer, so that in any node, it can

monitor all equipment of this subnet in some certain monitoring method.

� For equipment with self-healing ability, self-healing adopts distributed control mode, i.e.

supervisory control units of each station equipment cooperate to fulfill self-healing

operation of the network without intervention by key station. After preliminary setting,

monitored network and equipment can operate independent from key station and user

can decide according to his needs whether key station and network management

software shall be adopted.

� Multimedia alarm function: with a sound card correctly set, the key station can control

the sound card to generate alarm buzzing specified by user as soon as the supervisory

control system detects alarm on network or equipment.

� The software program with high density and efficiency has very small requirement of

system resources, and it can operate on any Windows (Windows95, Windows98, and

WindowsNT etc.) platform.

1.3 AN-NM-VIEW typical management applications

In the management application rhe key station manages 2 transmission subnets: subnet 1 is a

chain sub-network with SDH equipment, connecting to key station through Ethernet interface, and

the main station equipment address is 192.192.2.2(for AN-MSPP equipment); Subnet 2 includes

a chain sub-network and a ring sub-network, and its terminal equipment allocated in 192.192.2.8

is a star topology composed of AN-MSPP equipment and LM equipment; the equipment allocated

in 192.192.2.3 is connected to AN-50000 equipment via RS485 interface.

Portable terminal connected to 192.192.2.4 interface can carry out control operations for this

equipment via RS232, and carry out terminating operation to subnet 2 via RS485 interface.

1.4 Communication Protocol

AN-NM-VIEW adopts two types monitoring method: network interface monitoring and

serial port monitoring. Network interface monitoring adopts SNMP protocol or MSDH protocol,

while serial port monitoring adopts MSDH protocol or TABS protocol.

1.5 Operation environment

Hardware environment:

CPU:Intel 80486 or above;

Memory: above 16 M;

Hard disk space: 10 M;

Spare RS232 port;

10M/100M network adapter (Ethernet monitoring);

CDROM driver, mouse and monitoring lines .etc.

Windows platform (Windows95, Windows98, Windows 2000, or Windows XP

etc.)

1.6 About

For convenience of users to maintain software, AN-NM-VIEW offers several different

versions as following for different users:

1. Final user version

Final user version is specially designed for the specific characters of user network. This

version can supply abundant operation method for the daily maintain and test of network and

equipment, and it also supplies enough security and protection set to prevent users without

authorization from connecting to the system so that to avoid any baleful accident. So the most

important character of this version is the validation for specific user, i.e. all users without

authorization can not modify and extend network.

2. Agent version

Agent version is specially designed for our agents. This version supplies all the same function

as the final version, and besides that, the agents can use this version to debug network and the

system.

3. Self-using version for our company

This version is designed for the software and hardware developers of our company. This

version supplies all the same function as the final version, and besides that, this version also

supplies abundant dedicated function, which is none of users’ business. Communication interrupt

may occur with any incorrect usage, so this version is only used for inner designer of our

company.

Chapter 2 Software installation

2.1 Software installation

This software operates under windows operating system and the installation step is as shown

as following:

Insert installation CD in CD-ROM, execute SETUP.EXE file under WINDOWS environment,

and go on step by step according to the install shield wizard.

Entering install shield wizard, the screen as described in Fig.2-1 will appear, and the user can

select installation directory.

Click on "Next" button to start system installation.

At last install shield wizard shows setup finished

Click on “finish” button, then AN-NM-VIEW has been installed in this computer successfully.

A command group will be added in the "Start" menu automatically for starting and uninstalling of

AN-NM-VIEW.

2.2 Uninstall

If you want to uninstall AN-NM-VIEW, just perform “Start>Program>AN-NM-VIEW

network management system>uninstall AN-NM-VIEW”. When removing AN-NM-VIEW

software, system will wait user for confirmation.

Chapter 3 Security management

Security management mainly refers to management of AN-NM-VIEW users, i.e. network

administration personnel and network maintenance personnel, to prevent unauthorized access to

the system and serious accident caused thereby. AN-NM-VIEW has provided safety management

mechanism that can provide powerful security measures for network management.

3.1 Management authority

Management authority refers to user capability to control AN-NM-VIEW. Different levels of users

have different management authorities and thereby different management capabilities.

AN-NM-VIEW provides security by limiting management authorities of users. All AN-NM-VIEW

users are classified into 2 categories according to their levels of authority, i.e. super user (SU),

system administrator (SA) and network administrator (NA).

Super user: AN-NM-VIEW user with the highest authority who can carry out overall control

of the management system, including establishment and modification of supervisory control

environment, setting of system parameters, unlimited network and equipment control capability

(e.g. channel allocation and loop-back test), and addition and deletion of network administrators.

System administrator: AN-NM-VIEW user with the second highest authority. Comparing to

SU, SA can not modify control environment (e.g. network capability extension and network

modification), but can add and delete network administrator.

Network administrator: AN-NM-VIEW user with lower authority than SA. Network

administrator can only monitor and control network and equipment, and does not have right to

manage user’s authority.

Note: Agent Version software can have user management authority by user name and

password provided by our company.

3.2 User management

Command: Option->User management

For user management, user must have management authority and correctly log into

management system (see section 3.3 for method of logging). This command is gray if authority is

not high enough or logging is incorrect.

After executing this command, user management dialog box pops up as shown as in Fig.3-1.

Existing users and their properties are listed in user management dialog box. (Note: only

users who can be managed by current login user i.e. users with lower authority than login user are

listed.

3.2.1 Add user

If you want to add new users, click “Add” button on user management interface, and input

new user’s name and password into user dialog inbox (password and confirmation password shall

be consistent and it is case sensitive). Confirm new user’s authority (SU can add SA and NA,

while SA can only add NA), then click “OK” button after correct input to add a new user,

otherwise click “Cancel” to cancel add operation.

3.2.2 Modify property of users

If you want to modify property of a user, e.g. user name, password and management authority,

first select this user in the list box and then click "Property" button.

3.2.3 Delete user

If you want to delete a user, first select this user in the list box and then click "Delete" button.

3.3 Login

Command: Option>Login

Login is an important step for user to access network management. Only when logged into

the system can user have the right to control network and equipment, and set operating mode of

network and equipment.

Execute this command, input user name and password in user login dialog box (Fig.3-3) and

then click "Login" button. If user name and password are correct, user will log in the system and a

hint box with “user access successfully” will appear; otherwise the user will be rejected by the

system and a hit box with “user access failure” will appear.

When there is a user trying to login the system this command is gray. If you want login with

other identity, first logout the current user and then try to login again.

Note: AN-NM-VIEW has a special system administrator user (root) who is the basis of user

management. It is necessary to log in as root the first time you use user management, at which

time new users can be added. It is not possible to delete root user, but you can modify its

password.

3.4 Password modification

Command: Option>Modify password

This command is used to modify password. User can consider periodical modification of the

password according to situations.

Enter existing password in the "Password" column of the dialog box and then new password

in the "New" column (note case of letters). Then enter the new password again in the "OK"

column, which shall be consistent with that entered in the "New" column. Click "OK" to initiate

the new password; otherwise click "Cancel" to continue using old password.

When no user has logged-in the system, this command is used to modify system control

password.

Note: Securely remember your password. If network administrator forgets his password,

contact system administrator; if the latter forgets his, contact special system administrator (root); if

root user forgets his, contact our company.

3.5 Logout

Command: Option>Logout

When a user has logged-in the system and completed relevant operation, he shall log out to

avoid hidden security hazard.

When no user has logged in the system, this command is gray.

Chapter 4 Topology Management

Topology is the mapping from the communication network under management into network

management system, displaying the information such as equipment and connection relationship

etc. in user interface as tree and char representation, and providing entrance for different kinds of

configuration, alarm signals and performance operation.

4.1 primary Definition

Area : An area is a management unit of AN-NM-VIEW. An area can consist of several subnets.

These subnets can have or have no cross connection point; but normally those with cross

connection point are regarded as within one area (note: cross connection point here does not mean

physical connecting point in network, but station point with equipment in two or more subnets, e.g.

central office etc.).

Subnet : A subnet corresponds to actual transmission network and consists of media (e.g. optic

cable) between several equipment of the same type (e.g. PDH or SDH equipment). Equipment on

the same subnet has the same subnet address or TABS address.

Equipment : Node corresponding to physical equipment (e.g. PDH or SDH equipment) and

consisting subnet. It is the minimum management unit of AN-NM-VIEW.

Station ::::An station is a management unit of AN-NM-VIEW. Every station can manage

several equipment, which can compose a sub-network via connection station.

Current station: The station in active window and currently open. When a station is open, its

name will be shown in the information window. Double click on a station icon to activate it to

current station.

4.2 Function introduction

4.2.1 Establishment of subnet

Users can establish subnet according to actual transmission network step by step as following

steps:

1. Add area

Command: Setting>New Are

After executing this command, an empty area window with default name will appear. To

modify this name, please execute: Option->Area name. Newly added area will automatically

become the current area.

Command: Settings->New Station

After execution of this command, a dialog box as above will appear. Enter the name of new

station point in the station name column, and the name shall not be longer than 59 characters.

Please use default site address in site address field. This value is irrelevant to user maintenance in

the future. Later, select a suitable site icon from Site Icon column for the new station point and

specify its size. This icon will be displayed in network window of the new area, representing the

new station point.

If you want to display station name as text beside icon, please select "Put Site Name Beside"

check box, then select specific position to display the station name.

If you need to add further station after addition of this one, please select "Keep window and

add more stations" check box.

If you want to add this station, click "OK" button and then drag a rectangular block that

indicates size of the station icon inside network window along with movement of the mouse cursor

(if this rectangular block is not shown, move the mouse inside equipment window). Click left

mouse key at suitable position, the station icon representing the new station point will be shown at

this position. If you want to cancel this operation during positioning of station label, press "Esc".

If you no longer want to add this station, click "Cancel" button.

Repeat the above process till all station points in this area are added to network window.

Note: Station icons are standard bit map files that can be drawn on Windows "Paint" software.

Size of station label bit map shall be: large label: 48×48 pixels; medium label: 36×36 pixels; small

label: 24×24 pixels. User-drawing station label files shall use .bmp extension and be stored in

system subdirectory under the directory where the supervisory control software is located, to

become candidate station labels.

3. Add Shelf

Command: Settings->New

For management convenience, some equipment can be put into one shelf (such as H5P-14).

Double click the station with left mouse key of the station where shelf is to be added, so that

it becomes current station. After execution of this command a dialog box shown as below will

appear, and this box is used to select equipment shelf name. Click on “OK” button, and drag the

shelf appeared with click of mouse into station window, then click again to finish setup operation.

Addition of the equipment in equipment box can be implemented with “Add equipment”

command. When adding equipment, you can add it to shelf directly, or drag existing equipment to

shelf directly.

If the equipment under monitoring needs not shelf, then adding equipment command could

be executed directly.

4. Add equipment

Command: Settings->New Equipment

Double click the station with left mouse key of the station where equipment is to be added, so

that it becomes current station. At this time, this station’s name will appear in information window.

Execute Settings->New Equipment command, "New equipment" dialog box as shown above

will appear. This dialog box is used to select type of equipment to be added and determine the

address of the new equipment. Presently, AN-NM-VIEW supports all optic communication

products of AND-net, including miniSDH serials, MSPP serials etc.

Enter or select software name of the equipment to be added in equipment type column. Each

time a kind of equipment is entered or selected, type of this equipment and brief information will

be displayed in the lower part of the window. See the following table for corresponding

relationship between name of software and type of equipment.

Address of new equipment shall be determined according to address definitions described in

section 7.2. Equipment supporting Ethernet interface shall adopt IP address while other equipment

shall use TABS address or IP address.

Click "OK" to confirm addition of this equipment. Then drag a rectangular block that

indicates size of the equipment along with movement of mouse (if the rectangular block is not

shown, move the mouse cursor inside equipment window), and click left mouse key at suitable

position in the equipment window; the new equipment will be displayed here. If you want to

cancel this operation during the positioning process, press "Esc".

Click "Cancel" to quit this operation.

Repeat the above procedure till equipment to be monitored has all been added for each

station point.

5. Add connection

Command: Setup>Connection...

After execution of this command, move mouse to the icon of a station point and click left

mouse key, then move it to the icon of another station point. Click left mouse key on it and a new

dialog shown as above will appear. Select two pieces of equipment to be connected in the station

point, together with the disk numbers and optical directions, and then modify the “subnet ID” and

“subnet name”.

Click “OK” button to finish this connection operation.

If you want to cancel this operation during the mouse orientation, please click “Esc”.

Click “Cancel” button to cancel this operation.

Repeat the procedure above till all connections between all the stations have been set.

Command: Setup>Connection inside station

If there exit two or more AN-miniSDH or AN-MSPP in the same station point and one of

them is connected to equipment in other station point, this command could be executed.

When executing this command, a new dialog box shown as below will appear. Click on the

station name in left “Station information” box to select the station in which a connection between

different equipment will be established. Then click “Add” button in right down area to add

information in the list. All titles of “SrcName”, “SrcSlot”, “DstNam” and “DstSlot” have a

pull-down list to select specific content. Select con row from the pull-down list and click “Delete”

button, then it will be removed from the list. If you want to save the modification to the list, please

click “Apply” button, then click “Exit” button to close the dialog box; otherwise if you want to

recover the content before modification, please click “Quit” button directly to close the dialog box

without any modification.

4.2.2 Query of subnet information

Command: setup> query of connection

After executing this command, mouse will turn to . Move mouse to the connection line

between the station icons and click, then a new dialog to display the subnet information shown as

below will appear.

Shortcut: Double click left mouse key on connection line to pop the dialog box up.

4.2.3 Configuration of subnet connection status

Command: network>connection status setup...

After executing this command, mouse will turn to . Move mouse to the connection line

between station icons, then the line standing for the network connection will turn to yellow. Click

left mouse key then to pop up a dialog box to display subnet connection status shown as below.

You can modify “Source Olt card”, “Target Olt card” and “Optical transmission direction” by

selecting property option from the pull-down list according to the actual network connection status.

Especially, you also can modify “Protection OLT card” in the same way for some equipment such

as mspp.

“Eliminating invalid equipment according to connection status” button and “eliminating

invalid connection according to equipment status” button are useful for the router algorithm of old

version software. We suggest users with new version software do not use them casually.

After modification operation, click “OK” button to save the setup result otherwise click

“Cancel” button.

4.2.4 Configuration of services

Command: Network>SDH Service Configuration…

This command is used to configure SDH service, and it is invalid in subnet compose of PDH

equipment.

After executing this command, the service setup dialog shown as below will appear.

� “Select operation equipment”: all equipment of this area is listed in the tree chart. User can

select the equipment to be configured with mouse clicking.

� “New”: Click “New” button after equipment selection to pop the “service configuration”

dialog box and ad new service.

1、 “Name”: Every service needs a name, which had better to be different from each other.

2、 “Label”: Indicate service attribute between “Service up-down”, “Main service path” and

“Protection service path”. This is mainly used to distinguish conveniently for users, and

it does not affect actual service.

3、 “Type”: All types of services this equipment support are listed in the pull-down list and it

can affect actual service.

4、 “Direction”: There exits two kinds of directions “odd-direction (from source to sink)”

and “dual-direction” according to different equipment and different kinds of services. It

should be configured depending on user’s requirement and it will affect actual service. In

common case, user can select default value.

5、 “Capacity”: VC12 is the only granularity available.

6、 “Level”: There have three service levels “High” “Norm” “Low”. The “level” item is

mainly used for convenient distinguishing for users, and it will not affect actual service.

7、 “Work service” and “Protection service”: Work service is used to configure main service,

and “protection service” is used to configure protection service for path protection. If the

“protection service” is not needed, the corresponding pull-down list can not be selected.

8、 “Disk position”: It is used to configure the disk position for service. In protection service,

“--------”means no disk.

Note: when some specific services are selected for some equipment, some disk position

may be gray, which indicates that service should not configured in these disk position, if it is

forced to be configured, disconnection will occur.

9、 “Optical direction” or “VC12 upper limit” or blank: It will provide different additive

parameters according to different types of disks.

10、 “Time slot”: It indicates existing usable time slots. Lack of time slot or no one to be

selected means this time slot has been used by some services, and it will be re-usable

after remove corresponding service.

11、 “Add”: It is used to add this service to the main dialog box.

� “Setup”: A menu shown as Fig.4-10 pops up from button with three selection items:

“Service setup for this equipment”, “Service setup for subnet”, “advanced choice…”

Route Table…”dialog box, displaying the progress of service setup. If setup operation meets

failure, user can click on button “reload” or “reload all failing commands” to reload services.

In this box, default download items are provided which are not suggested to be modified by

users usually.

(1) “Increment configuration”: Download the router table of equipment comparing to last

configuration.

(2) “Norm configuration”: Download all router table of equipment without consideration

about last configuration.

(3) “Additional function when configuring service”: Sending selected control command when

downloading router table.

� “Query”: This command is used to existing services in the equipment. Note: because the

query result will cover former services, we suggest users save the former services as backup

before query and recover former services by reloading them.

� “Elimination”: This command is used to eliminate existing services in the equipment. A small

menu will pop up to let users select “eliminate the services of this equipment” or “eliminate

the service of this subnet”.

4.2.5 Channel distribution

This command is used to implement the operation distribution for network-type PDH

equipment, as well as the operation distribution which bases on the auto-router-selection algorithm

for some SDH equipment. If the subnet is composed of SDH equipment, connection information

should be setup first.

Note: Because of the network complexity and algorithm limitation, AN-NM-VIEW could not

decide whether the setup information is correct or not when the connection information setup does

not matching with actual connection status of equipment. So, please check the subnet connection

information carefully to ensure it is setup correctly before carrying out channel distribution

operation or query operation for subnet.

If the connection status does not matching with actual equipment information, channel

distribution operation will come to a failure.

During the running time of AN-NM-VIEW, user can click on the channel distribution item in

network menu item for setting or querying the channel distribution information of appointed

subnet. (Menu command: Network->ChannelAssignment)

If the connection status is set correctly, a new cross connection settings dialog box for

appointed subnet will appear as shown as in Fig.4-21.

shown in Fig.4-22 to suggest user check if the connection status has been set correctly.

The display range of the dialog box could be changed, and the list box also could be zoomed

in or zoomed out by clicking on the triangle button in right up area or right mouse key menu.

Descriptions of the buttons on cross connection settings management dialog box:

(1) Save: A save file dialog box will pop up to save connections in current list box as access

file.

(2) Load: An open file dialog box will pop us to load access file saved before.

Note: Program will check if the connection request loaded can be used in current network

construction so as to decide whether to load it.

(3) Print list: Print all items in service list box.

(4) Setup: Convert operation request in list box to equipment setup command sent to

corresponding equipment. If there are data service (Ethernet) request, data service will be

set (specific setup method will be shown next).

When clicking on “Setup” button, a new “Request” dialog box will appear.

This option is an advanced function, which is not necessary for most users.

(8) Protection loop: Specify the protection loop for multiplex section. This option is an

advanced function, which is not necessary for most users.

(9) Ethernet: Select “support Ethernet service” check box to configure the equipment to

support Ethernet service, and otherwise not.

(10) Type of service:

1、“No need of multiplex section protection”: No protection for all configured service.

2、“Auto-searching multiplex section protection”: AN-NM-VIEW can search all network

connections automatically and estimate which parts meet requirement of section protection.

For those meet requirements, user can set service according to multiplex section protection.

No protection is set for others which do not meet requirement of section protection.

cases such as source and sink station being the same or numbers of TU12/E1 ports for source and

sink station mismatching, the option will display a hint.

(13) Right key menu:

1、Select all:This item means all rows in the list are selected.

2、Reverse selection: Reverse the items selected and the others.

3、Delete: Delete all selected items in the list.

4、Move up, Move down: Move the selected item up and down.

5、Exchange the source and sink station: Exchange the source and sink station in the list.

6、Display connection request, display query result: Connection configuration or query result

of the service will be displayed according to user’s request.

7、Specify operation path: This is advanced setup, and it is not necessary in most cases. All

connection request between source and sink equipment will be configured according to this path.

Configuration will fail if the path requirement is not meet. But in most cases, router algorithm can

select operation path quite efficiently.

8、Display operation information: Click on this button after setting connection operation, and

a temp txt file will be open with information displayed about all nodes this operation passed and

all disks, as well as used VC3 and VC12.

9、Zoom in list table: Zoom in/zoom out list table.

Note: Differences between Section 4.2.4 “Configuration of SDH services” and Section 4.2.5

“Channel distribution” are shown as following:

SDH services: Support LMX, miniSDH and MSPP three types of equipment. Chain subnet,

multiplex section protection (for LMF and LMX) and path protection (for LMX and miniSDH)

can be configured. This command also supports OVFE16 on LMX, virtual concatenation for

Ethernet, user-spcific service path and resource occupancy, as well as configuration of protection

path.

Channel distribution: Support service configuration for all SDH equipment. Multiplex section

protection could be configured. This command also support Ethernet virtual concatenation for

LMX, lmv and mspp equipment, as well as shared Ethernet for, 155 and mspp equipment. Service

path router algorithm is selected automatically or intervened conditionally by users. Users can

query the path information and resource occupancy information of every kind of service. This

interface also provides a calculator for TUG encoding query.

4.3 Interface view

The interface view is used to understand the topology instruction of the whole subnet, and

through it users can get information about the work status at runtime.

4.3.1 Topology view

Topology is the mapping from the communication network under management into network

management system, displaying the information such as equipment and connection relationship

etc. in user interface as tree and char representation, and providing entrance for different kinds of

configuration, alarm signals and performance operation.

Topology view in user interface means the network window.

Network window, which is used to display the sketch map of user network connection, is

usually composed of station icon, optical fiber and text. Station icon stands for the physical

position for actual station, and lines between them stand for the optical fiber. Text is usually used

for auxiliary description of connection relationship between those stations.

4.3.2 Physical view

Physical view displays the correspondence between area, station point and equipment.

User can open “system” item to view all areas’ name in the system, and open “area” item to

view all stations’ name in the system, and open “station” item to view specific equipment to be

added to corresponding station with equipment name, address as well as the production serials the

equipment belonging to.

Double click left mouse key on “area” or “station” or specific equipment name, then the

central view and the right view shown above will switch to the view of corresponding area and

station.

When adding subnet according to the guide line in Section 4.2.1, user can add view of the

station and equipment in corresponding area of the physical view.

4.3.3 Logical view

Logical view displays the relationship between different subnet.

User can open “system” item to view all areas’ name in the system, and open “area” item to

view all stations’ name in the system, and open “subnet” item to view specific equipment to be

added to corresponding station with equipment name, address as well as the production serials the

equipment belonging to.

Double click left mouse key on “area” or “subnet” or specific equipment name, then the

central view and the right view shown above will switch to the view of corresponding area and

Chapter 5 Performance management

5.1 Error code counting and bit error rate (BER)

Error code count is the number of accumulated error codes for binary codes in transmission

system. Bit error rate (BER) is the error ratio for binary codes in transmission system, which is

approximately equal to Pe=Ne/N (error code count divided by total code count)

1、Bit error rate is a system parameter to measure the transmission reliability in normal work

state.

2、For an actual data transmission system, it could not be say that more lower BER is surely

better. User should establish BER requirement according to actual transmission requirement.

With a determinate data transmission speed, the BER is lower, then the transmission system

equipment is more complex and the cost is much higher.

User can query error code count in equipment disk dialog box, as well as executing the

following command to query.

Command: Network> Query Error Code Counting

With Network->Query Error Code Counting command you can check accumulated

transmission error codes of each node on a subnet. In case of sporadic error codes in transmission,

you can use this command to find source of error codes so as to locate potential hazard or failure

such as falling optic power, lowed reception sensitivity and increased transmission loss etc.

Select pull-down menu “Network (N) Query Error Code Counting…”, and then the cursor

turns to . Move cursor to the network to be monitored in error code, and click left mouse key

after the line standing for network connection turning to yellow, then an error code count dialog

box for the subnet will appear. The dialog box will different with each other for different

equipment.

The dialog shown in Fig.5-1 will appear to query error code counting for all equipment in the

subnet. For subnet composed of other types of equipment, dialog shown in Fig.5-2 will appear

after the execution of the command above.

Click left mouse key on "Reset" button to clear accumulated error codes of all nodes on the

subnet and reset the counter. "Query" button is used to immediately find out error code count of

each node and “Query Subnet” button is used to query error code count of all equipment in the

subnet. "Timed Query" button is used to automatically check error code count on a fixed interval.

Please refer to user manual for more error code query of specific equipment.

Chapter 6 Failure Management

Through failure management function, user can manage all alarms of equipment under

management and all alarm records reported by network management software during runtime. The

manage function includes: 1) monitoring alarm signal and running status; 2) querying history

alarm record and history running status record of equipment; 3) querying and configuring alarm

information for equipment.

Through alarm management function, user can view and manage all alarms currently

collected by the supervisory control system and view all alarm records collected since system

operation. These records have important reference value for analysis of network and equipment

performance.

6.1 Primary Conception

6.1.1 Definition

1、Alarm ID: Alarm ID is the only identifier for alarm. Every alarm ID is corresponding to a kind

of alarm. Usually, the alarm ID distributed according to the types of alarm and alarm module.

2、Alarm level: Alarm level is used to sign severity degree of an alarm (failure) which could be

classified into four levels in a digressive order as following:

Urgent alarm: Urgent alarm is a kind of global alarm, which will endanger the running of

equipment. Once this alarm detected, the equipment should be maintained immediately.

Major alarm: Major alarm means single-board or connection alarm in local scope, which will

lead to abnormal operation if it is not cleared quickly.

Minor alarm: This means a kind of common failure alarm and event alarm for those single-board

or connection.

Warning alarm: Warning alarm will not affect system performance and user service, but some of

them can give some information to system operator, such as the prompt information of equipment

recovery.

3、Alarm item color: User can set different color for different alarm level. The station icon and

equipment icon in interface viewer will display current high level alarm color according to its

alarm level.

6.2 Function description

6.2.1 Alarm Item Color Management

Command: Option>Alarm Item Color Management…

After execution of this command, a new dialog shown in Fig.6-1 will appear. User can

change the alarm level for different alarm items.

6.2.3 Alarm sound management

Command: Option>Query Control and Options

After execution of this command, a new dialog shown in Fig. 6-3 will appear.

If the “Audio alarm by computer” option is selected, user can set alarm sound file (shown in

Fig. 6-3). Computer will generate specific alarm sound according to the highest alarm level of the

equipment (Sound card and sound box must work properly). If the “Bell alarm by monitoring”

option is selected, the computer will generate a “ding-ding” sound after response (Sound card and

sound box must work properly). Click on “OK” button to save modification and open/close sound

generation. Click on “Cancel” button to quit modification.

6.2.4 Setting/Clearing alarm mask

When an alarm occurs, equipment will initiate top-of-cabinet audio/video alarm while the

supervisory control system will display the alarm on screen in set mode. AN-NM-VIEW provides

the function to set alarm mask to screen known and unnecessary alarms.

Setting of alarm mask has two meanings. First is the alarm mask in equipment. When this is

set, current operating status of equipment will be regarded as normal status and all alarm items

will be screened so that top-of-cabinet audio/video alarm will not be initiated, which will be

initiated only when an alarm other than existing alarm items occurs. Setting of equipment alarm

mask will not affect reporting of equipment alarm items to the key station. Second, when setting

alarm mask, supervisory control system will also set alarm mask in key station database. After that,

screened alarm items will no longer cause flashing alarm of station label, functional disk or alarm

sign, but will be displayed in normal status on user interface. The characteristic feature is that

these screened alarm items will no longer flash; but unscreened new alarm will still follow set

alarm mode.

This command is used to set alarm mask for equipment to screen useless alarms. After

execution of this command, mouse cursor will turn to . Move cursor to the equipment to be set

with alarm mask, then click left mouse key on it. A hint box will appear to show whether the

setting is successful or not.

Command: Equipment->Clear alarm mask

This command is used to clear equipment alarm mask set in key station database and to

restore normal display of screened alarms on key station. But this command is not effective to

physical equipment to avoid top-of-cabinet audio/video alarm in remote equipment room after

key station carries out this operation, which will put personnel on duty in false alarm. Change of

physical equipment alarm mask can only be realized by setting alarm mask again after

eliminating alarm items. For instance, when current idle 2M port is put into operation, alarm

mask should be set again so that when signal of this 2M interface is lost, it will give correct

alarm.

Method to use this command is the same as that for setting alarm mask.

6.2.5 Clearing equipment alarm

Command: Advanced>Clearing equipment alarm>All area

All equipment alarms in all area will be cleared after execution of this command.

Command: Advanced>Clearing equipment alarm>Active area

All equipment alarms in current active area will be cleared after execution of this command.

Command: Advanced>Clearing equipment alarm>Specific subnet

All equipment alarms in all specific subnet will be cleared after execution of this command.

Command: Advanced>Clearing equipment alarm>Specific equipment

Specific equipment alarms will be cleared after execution of this command.

6.3 Display

6.3.1 Equipment icon display

Command: Advanced>System appearance and options…

Open dialog and click on “Appearance…” button, a dialog shown in Fig. 6-4 will pop up.

If “Display the alarm color of highest level alarm in this disk after alarm detected” option is

not selected, the equipment icon will be flashing if alarm mask not set, and otherwise the

equipment icon recovers to no alarm state if alarm mask set.

6.3.3 Alarm information display

After alarm occurring, corresponding alarm information will be listed in the alarm window.

The information includes corresponding equipment name, ID, alarm date, time, disk, port and

alarm name, as shown as in Fig.6-7.

6.3.4 Alarm prompt message

AN-NM-VIEW provides brief prompt information for each alarm item. Possible causes of

alarms are listed to help clear alarm failure, as shown as in Fig 6-8.

Alarm prompt messages are saved in olhelp.hlp file in System subdirectory under the

directory where the supervisory control system is located. This file is a pure text file and can be

edited using text editor provided by Windows. If necessary, user can write his maintenance

experience in this file for display in alarm prompt.

In this file, character "$" is the start symbol of notes, which are added when editing this file

Chapter 7 Establishment of supervisory

control environment

7.1 Interface description

After AN-NM-VIEW Startup, user interface shown in Fig. 7-1 will appear:

The tree view on the left, divided into logical view and physical view, indicates the

relationship of network connection; Network window is on the left and used to display user

network connection schematic diagram, normally consisting of station label, optic fiber and texts:

station labels indicate physical positions of actual station points, connecting lines in between are

optic fibers and texts are used for auxiliary description; On the right is the equipment window that

displays equipment configuration in the station opened, and where you can add brief text

description as prompts. On the bottom is the information window, which is divided into

Information window and Alarm window. Size of each window can be adjusted with mouse to your

preference.

AN-NM-VIEW adopts multi-file window interface in which each area can have its own

window. You can not only observe operation of network and equipment in several areas, but also

operation in one area in several windows, thus greatly facilitating user operation.

7.2 Definitions

To facilitate description, the following definitions are first introduced:

Address: Under the same supervisory control environment, address is the only identification of a

node. One address can only correspond to one piece of physical equipment. There are some

differences in address form between adopting TABS communication protocol and TCP/IP

protocol (Ethernet interface):

1. For TABS communication protocol: an address consists of two parts, i.e. subnet address and

equipment address. Sometimes, subnet address is also called TABS address or link address.

Subnet address indicates the numerical number of subnet where this node is situated and all nodes

in one subnet have the same subnet address; while equipment address indicates the numerical

number of this node in its subnet. Normally, subnet addresses and equipment addresses adopt

sequential allocation principle. According to requirement by TABS communication protocol,

subnet addresses can be selected between 1-31, while equipment addresses between 0 and 124 or 0

and 255 according to type of equipment. Customarily, [subnet address. equipment address] is used

to indicate a node, e.g. [3.2] indicates the second node in subnet 3.

In AN-NM-VIEW, some TABS addresses are specially used for subnet consist of certain

equipments, normally these addresses are not used for other equipments.

For example, TABS address 30 is specially used for digital subscriber loop bureau equipment

(its equipment address can be selected from 0-255 and indicated as 30.0,...,30.255), while 31 is

specially used for digital subscriber loop remote equipment (its equipment address can be selected

from 0-255 and indicated as 31.0,...,31.255).

2. For Ethernet interface which adopting TCP/IP protocol, IP address is used as node address.

Upstream node and downstream node: For H9MO-155 (SDH) equipment, definition is from

"west" to "east" (the meanings of which correspond to "west card" and "east card" defined for

ADM equipment). A node west of a certain node is called the upstream node of the latter while a

node east of it is called a downstream node; meanwhile for other PDH equipments, definition is

from "east" to "west"; accordingly, upstream node of head node is the tail node while downstream

node of tail node is the head node.

For example, in the above subnet, upstream node of node 3.0 is 3.2, and its downstream node is

3.1; upstream node of 3.1 is 3.0 and its downstream node is 3.2; upstream node of 3.2 is 3.1 while

its downstream node is 3.0.

Frame: A framework is management entity consist of several physical equipments, each piece of

equipment in the same framework has individual address.

Active window: Current window that receives user input. A typical characteristic is different color

of window title bar (blue under standard setting) with other windows. If you want to activate a

window, just click in the window with mouse.

Current area: The area in active window is called current area.

7.3 Establishment of supervisory control environment

AN-NM-VIEW is used for supervisory management of equipment. First of all, a database

with abundant information of monitored networks shall be established, including area division,

network structure, equipment type and configuration, and user interfaces etc., to constitute a

specific supervisory control environment for each user. Establishment and configuration of

supervisory control environment is performed by AD-net Company or our agents, when network

is first built or extended.

First divide the networks to be managed into several management areas according to area

division principle. Normally, networks with cross point shall be allocated to one management area;

but this is not mandatory since AN-NM-VIEW has no special requirement for this and user

requirement can be followed. After that, use AN-NM-VIEW to establish areas and subnets to

facilitate management.

In this section, we will take H9MOLMF as an example and establish the supervisory control

environment for it.

7.3.1 Add area

See4.2.1 Establishment of subnetadd area as a reference.

7.3.2 Add station

See Command add station in 4.2.1 Establishment of subnet as a reference.

Repeat above steps, add station "beijing ", "shanghai" in this area into the network window.

7.3.3 Add Frame

See 4.2.1 Establishment of subnet add framework as a reference.

In this example, H9MOLMF does not belong to centralized equipment, therefore no need to

add frame, so we can directly execute “add equipment” command.

7.3.4 Add equipment

See Command add equipment 4.2.1 Establishment of subnet as a reference.

Repeat above steps to add equipments need to be managed for each station (H9MOLMF).

7.3.5 Add subnet

See command add subnet in 4.2.1 Establishment of subnet as a reference.

7.3.6 Add text description

Command: Settings->New Description->In Area (station)

Addition of some simple text description in a window can help maintenance

personnel to identify configuration of the whole network. This command can not only be used to

add text description in current area network window, but also text description in equipment

window. Therefore, before executing this command, first determine object for which text

description will be added. If description will be added in network window, please execute

Set->Add description->in area command; if the description will be added in equipment window,

first set current station and then execute Set->Add description->in station point command.

After execution of this command, above add description dialog box will appear. Enter text

message to be added, set display mode (Rotation, Transparent) and select font and color (refer to

Windows manual for operation related to font setting). When all settings are completed, click

"OK" and then select position of display by moving mouse. Drag a rectangular block that indicates

size of text along movement of mouse (if the rectangular block is not shown, move mouse in

correct window, network or equipment window), and then click left mouse key at suitable position;

newly added text will be displayed at this position. If you want to cancel this operation during text

positioning process, press "Esc".

7.3.7 Setting supervisory control mode and system parameters

Command: Option->Queue management

This command is used to set communication connection mode and system operating

parameters between supervisory control system and monitored equipment. The Query queue

management command is used to set supervisory control switch of subnet or equipment (query or

not query) and supervisory control mode (local RS485 supervision or remote RS485 supervision)

etc. This command affects polling task arrangement of the system. Query control & option is used

to change operating mode of the supervisory control system.

After execution of Option->Queue management command, the dialog box as shown below

appears. In this dialog box, the list box lists objects of which polling is required by

AN-NM-VIEW. For transmission network, a subnet is a querying object; while for digital

subscriber loop, a node or equipment is a query object. This list box is a standard Windows choice

box with expansion style and permits selection of multiple items. Operating mode of this dialog

box permits "first select, then operate" mode, i.e. you can select object first and set it later.

"Query switch" is used to set an object selected as or not as a query object during system

arrangement of polling tasks, so as to include it in or exclude it from daily query task queue.

“Query Chn” is used to set connection mode between key station computer and monitored

equipment, i.e. Ethernet port, RS231 port or RS485 interface connection.

For RS231 port connection, there is only one system polling object, i.e. the first "Query

Channel" in query queue is set as query object of "RS232". At this time, even when query

channels of many objects are set as "RS232", the system will query only one of them.

For RS485 connection, all objects in query queue which are not set as "RS232" will be

included in query task; hence it can be queried by the system. Therefore, when “Query Chn” is set

as "RS232", there is only one query object; while "RS485", there can be more query objects.

For "Ethernet", equipments and console are connected through Ethernet ports; therefore

once there is a piece of equipment in a certain subnet connected the console, all the equipments in

this subnet will have a chance to be queried by the system.

"Query channel" is used to specify communication path between query object and key

station computer. If query channel of an object is set as "RS232", this object can only be queried

when “Query Chn” is also set as "RS232". If query channel of an object is set as "local 485" or

"remote 485", this object can only be queried when “Query Chn” is set as "RS485". Similarly, if

query channel of an object is set as "ethernet", this object can only be queried when “Query Chn”

is set as "Ethernet".

"Remote 485" connection mode refers to the situation where console computer and

monitored equipment are not at the same location and there is no direct information transmission

path between them (e.g. optic cable or other usable data channel), and supervisory control

information of remote equipment must be forwarded by a local equipment (in the same location as

the remote equipment) that has direct information path with key station computer, so as to

establish information path with key station computer. This information forwarding mode is called

"remote 485 connections". At present AD-net H700, H760 and H900 equipments provide this

information forwarding capability, but there are some differences in their ways of implement.

H700 and H760 equipments execute forwarding via secondary encapsulation while H900

equipment adopts routing method.

In queue management dialog box, "Priority" column specifies query priority of query objects.

The larger the value, the higher the priority, and hence more queries made in unit time.

Only in the situation shown below, connection mode could be modified successfully:

Console is connected with SDH equipment, and when monitoring equipment X via "remote

485", SDH2 and X must be connected via 485 data cable, and notifies SDH2 by setting relative

command using network management.

For example, SDH2 is miniSDH and IP address is 192.192.4.1; X is MSPP series and address

is 30.1.

Choose “Query Chn”according to monitored equipment and "Query channel" choose

"remote 485". Click "Modify" button, the dialog box appeared as shown in figure below. Input

information as below, and click "OK", then return to queue management dialog box, after clicking

"Setting" button console could monitor X equipment through "remote 485".

Command: Option->Query control & option

This command will cause the following dialog box to appear.

"Threshold of no response (min.)" specifies no equipment response alarm threshold in

minutes. When the system fails to receive equipment reporting information in a specified period of

time, connection between this equipment and the system is deemed lost and "no equipment

response alarm" will be generated. Value of this threshold is directly related to number of objects

managed and interval of normal state query. The more objects being managed and the longer the

interval, the higher the threshold value is. When the threshold is defined as 0, no such alarm will

be generated.

"Polling" specifies at what interval (ms) the system will query a management object. The

shorter the period is, the worse the system response to user. Beside, long period has adverse effect

on timely collection of alarms. This value is usually set at ms level; default value is 2s.

"Supervision reporting ringing" specifies that ringing will be initiated each time the system

receives an equipment reporting message.

"Close/open query" button can close or open normal state query system. Closing of normal

state query system will stop collection of equipment alarms and may cause "No equipment

response alarm".

When the system detects an alarm, if you want an audio alarm, please select "Sound to

Alarm" check box; at the same time, you can also specify the audio file to be played (as the figure

below). Note: To realize this function, the computer must have a correctly installed sound card and

be connected to sound box, which shall be tuned to suitable volume.

When the system detects an alarm, if you want to have supervisory control system window

currently in minimized operation automatically opened, please select "Open it when Minimized"

check box (as the figure below), otherwise the icon of the minimized supervisory control system

will start blinking.

When the system detects an alarm, if you want to display supervisory control system window

above all other windows, select "Bring to Front" check box (as the figure below).

To save modification made, click "OK" botton.

To cancel, click "Cancel" botton.

7.3.8 Ethernet interface connection settings and options

Command: Option->Connection setting and Options

This command is used to manage TCP/IP connections between equipment that

supports Ethernet interface and key station computer, e.g. network cards and port addresses used.

After executing this command, dialog box will come up as shown in Fig. 7-9. Click "add" button,

then dialog box comes up as shown in Fig. 7-10. "Select all", "Add", "Edit", "Remove",

"Enable" and "disable" button can make modification to equipment information in the list. Only

after selecting the information in the list, "Add", "Edit", "Remove", "Enable" and

"disable","Connect", "Disconnect" button will be in usable status. You can set "auto restore

connection interval". If you want to save this "Query before auto resume." setting, click

"Apply" button; otherwise click "Close" button, dialog box will be closed and no change will be

made to "Query before auto resume.".

In the dialog box shown in Fig. 7-9, you can select "network adaptor" in the pull-down list,

and fill in the IP address of the monitored equipment. If you want to enable it, ensure that

"enable" check box is selected. If you expect that upon startup, the system automatically restores

to the correct connection existing when the system is exit last time, please select "Auto restore

connection when startup" check box. If you expect that the system automatically re-establish

connection when accidental TCP/IP connection interruption is detected, please select "Auto

Connect when broken" check box.

7.3.9 Setting of remote management server

Command: Option->Remote server settings

When you want to use serial port of computer to realize management with several network

management centers, this command shall first be used to set the server that supports remote

management. In the dialog box, "Number of server" indicates the number of remote network

management centers; "Current server" is used to select the server to be set; while "Current server

status" is used to indicate operating status of current server, i.e. connected, unconnected, or paused

etc.

The buttons will change indicate word according to connection status. After selecting current

server, click "Setting" for serial port setting. If you want to cut off serial port connection of

current server, click "Disconnect" button; if you want to pause serial port connection of current

server, click "Pause" button; if you want to restore paused connection, click "Restore" button.

7.3.10 Address mapping management

For those equipments adopting TABS protocol, each equipment takes a TABS address while

being monitord directly via AN-NM-VIEW. However TABS addresses are valuable for

AN-NM-VIEW, the situation of lack of TABS addresses occurs frequently. To avoid address

duplication, if user has a large number of equipments of this type, somtimes user needs to start

several AN-NM-VIEW program to manage them. To solve the problem of centralize network

management, an agent equipment is brought in, address shielding could be done via this agent

equipment. In addition, this agent also carries out polling function, once it discovers equipment

alarm, it will actively report to management center.

All the equipments which adopt TABS protocol could realize polling and active report via the

agent. Config polling object of the agent via AN-NM-VIEW, then the agent start polling, and take

charge of gathering equipment alarm information. When alarm information changes, it actively

reports to management center through Socket.

Command: Option->Address mapping manage

After executing this command, an address mapping table as shown below comes up. In the

same agent management area, physical addresses are not allowed to be duplicated.

To this point, a complete and user-friendly supervisory control environment has been

established, on which daily maintenance and management of network can be carried out.

7.4 Modification of supervisory control environment

7.4.1 Area management

To add a new supervisory control environment, execute command file->New;

To open an existed supervisory control environment, execute command file->Open, then a

dialog box shown as Fig. 7-14. It asks whether save present system settings. Click "Save" to save

"system.dat" in current directory; click "Save as…" to change the directory of "system.dat";

choose "Not save" to exit current system directly. A dialog box comes up as Fig. 7-15, choose the

"system.dat" file under the related directory to open.

7.4.2 Station point management

To add a new station point, see 4.2.1 Establishment of subnet add station;

To delete an existing station point in current area, execute command Setting->Delete station,

then click left mouse key on the station point to be deleted; or click "Esc" to cancel operation.

Note: deletion of a station point will delete all equipment and text description in this station point;

To modify display position of station label in current area, execute command Setting->Move

station; then click left mouse key on the station label for which display position is to be changed.

As a result, mouse cursor will drag a rectangular box that represents size of station label along its

movement. Click left mouse key at the new position, the station label will be moved to this

position. To cancel the movement operation, press "Esc";

To modify properties of a station point, e.g. name of station and station label etc., first set

current station and then execute command Option->Station name; all gray contents in the dialog

box cannot be changed;

To close the display of equipment of a certain station in equipment window, execute

command Setting->Close station;

To modify background color of equipment window of current area, execute command

Setting->Station background select….

7.4.3 Framework management

To add a new equipment, see4.2.1 Establishment of subnet add framework;

To delete existing framework in current station point, execute command Settings->Delete

framework; then click left mouse key on the equipment to be deleted; to cancel deletion, press

"Esc". Notice: when deleting a framework, all the equipments and text descriptions of this

framework will also be deleted.

To modify display position of framework label in current station point, execute command

Setting->Move framework; then click left mouse key on the station label for which display

position is to be changed. As a result, mouse cursor will drag a rectangular box that represents size

of station label along its movement. Click left mouse key at the new position, the framework and

its equipments will be moved to this position. To cancel the movement operation, press "Esc".

7.4.4 Equipment management

To add a new equipment, see4.2.1 Establishment of subnet add equipment;

To delete existing equipment in current station point, execute command Settings->Delete

equipment ; then click left mouse key on the equipment to be deleted; to cancel deletion,

press "Esc";

To modify display position of equipment label in current station point, execute command

To modify address properties of a equipment, see 8.1.1 Query of equipment information .

7.4.5 Subnet and connection management

To add a new subnet or connection in current area, see4.2.1 Establishment of subnet add

subnet;

To delete existing subnet in current area, execute command Settings->Delete subnet; then

click left mouse key on the subnet to be deleted; to cancel deletion, press "Esc";

To query connection of a subnet in current area, execute command Settings-> Query

connection, and then click left mouse key on target subnet; press "Esc" to cancel query;

To delete existing connection in current area (including a segment of connection in subnet),

execute command Settings->Delete connection ; then click left mouse key on the

connection to be deleted; press "Esc" to cancel the operation. Note: Deletion of any segment of

connection in ring network will change the network to recurrent network;

7.4.6 Modification of subnet and connection display style

Command: advanced->subnet display style, key Ctrl+Alt+S; Hot key Ctrl+Alt+P

Under default setting, newly added subnets and connections are shown by red solid line with

line width of 2. If you want to change default display mode, e.g. to flowing mode, hot key

commands provided by AN-NM-VIEW can be used.

Place mouse on the subnet connecting line to be modified, and press hot key Ctrl+Alt+S, the

subnet display style dialog box will appear as shown in the Fig. above. In this dialog box:Check

box "Flow" is used to control if this subnet shall be set to flowing curve mode: for traditional

display, clear this check box; for flowing curve mode, select this check box. For traditional display

mode, line width can be selected between 1-2; for flowing mode display, the width can only be 1.

When flowing mode display is adopted: check box "Counterflow" is used to control flow

direction, and clearing or selection of this box can change flow direction of lines; "Flow speed"

can control line flowing speed; "segment length" is used to control unit length of flowing line and

expected length shall be input in this column in pixel unit. If you want different lengths for

succeeding segments, input as: length of first segment + length of second segment. For example,

12+8 indicates that length of first segment is 12 pixels and length of second segment is 8 pixels.

Note: Mismatched segment length and flow speed will cause flashing. Higher flow speed shall

have longer length.

In addition, you can set display color of subnet in different statuses (normal, alarm,

interruption, flashing) in this dialog box. To change color settings, click "Change" button beside

relevant status. Note: Improper color setting will affect view of subnet alarms. See Windows

manual for operations related to color dialog.

To save modifications made, click "OK"; otherwise click "Cancel".

Hot key Ctrl+Alt+P can add sidelines on both sides of flowing line to create "track" effect;

press the hot keys again will clear sidelines.

Prompt: Execution results of these hot key commands are relevant to position of mouse

pointer. When mouse pointer is on a connecting line of a subnet in current area, these two

commands are used to modify display style of this subnet; when mouse pointer is not on any

connecting line of subnet, they are used for display style of all subnets in current area. Please

observe the title bar of subnet display style dialog box; if subnet No. is specified in the title bar,

this operation is effective only for this subnet; if subnet No. is not specified, this operation will

affect display style of all subnets in current area.

7.4.7 Management of text description

To add test description in current area or current station point, see 7.3.6 Add text description ;

To modify text description in current area or current station point, execute command

Settings->Modify description->In area or Settings->Modify description->In station, then click

left mouse key on the description to be modified; to cancel modification, press "Esc";

To change display position of text description in current area or current station point, execute

command Settings->Move description->In area or Settings->Move description->In station, then

click left mouse key on the description to be move. Drag the description with mouse to the new

position and again click left mouse key; to cancel movement operation, press "Esc";

To delete text description in current area or current station point, execute command

Settings->Delete description->In area or Settings->Delete description->In station , and

then click left mouse key on the description to be deleted; to cancel deletion, press "Esc".

7.4.8 Language

Command: Option->Language

Execution this command to select GUI display language. After changing the GUI language

option, you need to restart the network management system to make it take effect.

7.4.9 Saving modification

To save any modifications made, execute command: File->Save ; if you want to change

the file save directory, execute command File->Save as. If you want exit the supervisory control

system, execute command File->Exit, a dialog box shows up to prompt you whether to save

current system settings and exit network management system, click "Cancel" to cancel this

operation.

Chapter 8 Daily management and

maintenance

In this chapter we will introduce functions frequently used for daily management and

maintenance.

8.1 Equipment level supervisory control

8.1.1 Query of equipment information

Command: Equipment->Equipment information;

This command is used to query address information and type of certain equipment in current

station. After execution of this command, click left mouse key on the target equipment in current

station point will obtain information about this equipment; to modify address of this equipment,

click "Modify address" button in equipment information dialog box.

Shortcut: Double click left mouse key on non-card position (e.g. border or title bar etc.) of the

target equipment.

8.1.2 Card supervisory control

This command is used to query alarms on a card of target equipment and can initiate relevant

test function. After execution this command, click left mouse key on the card of target equipment

to view various alarms associated with this disk. To cancel this operation, press "Esc".

Most contents of equipment level supervisory control are centralized on card of equipment.

Each card corresponds to a dialog box that manages information associated with this disk.

Shortcut: double click left mouse key on the card of target equipment.

8.1.3 Cancellation of all loop-back

Command: Equipment->Cancel loop-back

To facilitate testing, our transmission equipment has various channel loop-back control

functions as a feature. Since loop-back operations are all realized by certain function disk of

particular equipment, loop-back control commands are also carried out in equipment supervisory

control window; see equipment operation manual for details.

Normally, there are two modes of loop-back operations: remote loop-back and local

loop-back. The reference point to decide type of loop-back is the terminal port to realize loop-back,

not relative position of equipment to controller. Remote loop-back refers to signal loop-back from

receiving terminal to transmitting terminal, while local loop-back refers to signal loop-back from

transmitting terminal to receiving terminal (also called near end loop-back).

This command is used to clear all loop-back setting on equipment to restore normal

communication. Execution of this command will enter equipment selection stage. Click left mouse

key on target equipment to clear all loop-back settings on this equipment. To cancel this operation,

press "Esc".

8.1.4 Setting alarm mask

Command: Equipment->Set alarm mask

8.1.5 Clearing alarm mask

Command: Equipment->Clear alarm mask

8.1.6 Confirming current configuration

Command: Equipment->Confirm current configuration

This command is used to confirm current system hardware configuration, i.e. that

current equipment configuration is correct. After execution of this command, the supervisory

control system will record idle cards in equipment as normal without giving alarm; at the same

time, cards not detected by the system will be deleted from equipment view (deletion of a card

will shield all alarms on such disk) and no more displayed, so as to maintain consistency of

AN-NM-VIEW user interface with physical network and equipment.

If you want to restore display of card s deleted from equipment view, first clear all alarms on

equipment and then execute this command once more.

After execution of this command, enter equipment selection stage. Click left mouse key on

destination equipment; press "Esc" to cancel this operation.

8.2 Network level supervisory control

Network level supervisory control uses subnets as objects of supervisory control and provides

the capability to observe and control network operation at network level. Therefore, these

commands are provided for all equipment on a subnet. All commands of network level

supervisory control are in "Network" menu. It shall be noted that not all equipment types support

these commands. Further, for different types of equipment, interface and operation of these

commands can be different. AN-NM-VIEW will make correction selection according to type of

subnet selected.

For network level supervisory control, you need first to select the subnet to be monitored.

After execution of any network level command described below, you will enter subnet selection

status. Move mouse in current area to select the subnet to be monitored. If you want cancel this

operation after entering into subnet selection status, press "Esc". If target subnet is not in current

area, first set the area where the subnet is located to current area.

8.2.1 Channel assignment

See 4.2.5 Channle Distribution.

8.2.2 Orderwire telephone system setting

Command: Network->Telephone System Settings

Supervisory control of orderwire phone subsystem of larger scale transmission subnet can be

realized, including monitoring of orderwire phone off-hook/on-hook conditions of each node,

control of orderwire break-in authority of a node, or set it to hotline telephone that will call

automatically at off-hook, so as to control orderwire telephone meeting. Some types of equipment

allow software setting and query of telephone number of node orderwire. Supervisory control of

subnet orderwire phone subsystem can be realized by command Network-> Telephone System

Settings. We introduce use and operation of the GUI below.

Select the pull-down list: Network(N)/ Telephone System Settings , cursor changes to .

Move the cursor to the network need to set telephone system, after the color of connecting line

indicated network connection change to yellow, click left mouse button, then the telephone system

setting dialog box related to such network shows up:

For a subnet which consists of equipments of H9MOLMF and H9MOLMX types, the dialog

box comes up as below:

"Set" button: select certain equipment, and then set its orderwire telephone. "Query" button:

select certain equipment, and then query its orderwire telephone. "Set subnet" button: Set the

order telephones of all equipments in the subnet. "Query subnet" button: Query order telephones

of all equipments in the subnet. Different equipments could not be set to same number, and could

not be set to the number currently used by other equipment.

For the subnet consist of other equipments, the dialog box comes up as below:

In the table, each line corresponds to a node. Clicking "Query" button can obtain whether

orderwire telephone is in off-hook status. If there is a black point in the line marked with

"Off-hook", it indicates the orderwire telephone of this node is in off-hook status. For dial-up

mode, number setting of each node will be shown in "Query" row of the "OW number" column.

"Set" button is used for setting the calling mode, orderwire number of each node. Click the

box in the "hot line" row of the "work status" column, "√" indicates that this node is in hot line

calling mode, and if other nodes are off-hook, this node starts ringing. If the box is blank, dial-up

mode is needed. "Set" row in "OW number" column is used for filling in orderwire number of

each node. Only click "Set" button and "√" appears in the box on the left of the button, all the

settings will take effect.

For network made up by AN-SDH-155, the telephone number coordinating with hardware

could be set to 2 or 4 digits. While for other equipment, telephone number digits width can not be

chosen.

8.2.3 Setting of clock and query

Command: Network-> Clock Query and Setting

Normally, the main node is set as main clock while all other nodes will extract this clock.

According to different types of equipment, type of clock and contents of setting can differ. If

setting requirements are not met or selection if incorrect, AN-NM-VIEW will give alarms in a

timely manner (user is not permitted to modify gray parts in the dialog box; the reason may be that

the equipment does not support such modification or current network configuration is not

suitable).

Method of operations related to this command is not described here; please refer to

equipment manual.

Note: Incorrect clock setting may paralyze the whole network or cause abnormal operation.

Do not use this command if operator is not completely familiar with network configuration.

8.2.4 Query of error code counting

See 5.1 Error code counting and bit error rate (BER) query method of error code counting.

8.2.5 Query of circuit information

There are two ways to query circuit information:

1、Click menu "view->circuit information", this operation could show circuit information of

all equipments in the system, and modfication to the data in the list could be made.

2、There is a entering interface in the pop-up dialog box of equipment, and its default value is

the information of such equipment. If there is no information about such equipment, fill list with

the information about such equipment for user to modify and edit.

Command: view->Circuit Information

After executing this command , below dialog box comes up:

Buttons in the dialog box:

1、"OK": Save operation results.

2、"Cancel": Cancel operation。

3、"Update": Add information which didn’t list in all regions.

4、"Output": Add current information to database.

5、"Display all": Show all circuit information.

6、"Search": Search database according to user’s item, and show the result.

7、"Inverse select": Select objects in the view which didn’t been selected, and deselect those

been selected.

8、"Select all": Select all items in the view.

9、"Print": Print the information in current view.

10、Status information of items in the list is shown in the lower left.

of related station point could be made. Thereinto, pull-down list of "self-healing config" could be

chosen to "enable self-healing" or "disablse self-healing"; Click "inverse selection" to select

objects in the view which didn’t been selected, and deselect those been selected; Use "Select all"

to select all items in the view; Use “All enable SH” and "All disable SH" to make change to all

items in the list. Click "Set" to save modifictions and set them to equipment; otherwise click

"cancel" to exit.

8.2.10 Query Low-class Error Code Counting

Command: network->Query Low-class Error Code Counting

Use this command to view low level code error of certain subnet connection equipment.

Select pull-down menu: network->Query Low-class Error Code Counting , then move cursor to

the subnet needed to be queried. After the line indicating network connection turning to yellow,

click left mouse button, then the dialog box of low level code error query related such network

shows up. In the dialog box, you can query low level code error appearing in the list, and set the

interval period of timely auto query, and also clear data queried in the list.

8.3 Alarm management

8.3.1 Viewing alarms

AN-NM-VIEW adopts layered alarm management mode. This mode allows clear view of

alarm conditions, fast and accurate positioning of alarms and easy query. Following is a brief

description of alarm display and view process with system default alarm display mode as an

example.

When AN-NM-VIEW detects an equipment alarm that is not screened by mask (see 6.2.5

Clearing equipment alarm):

� If "Audio alarm by computer" option is selected and alarm sound file is specified (see 6.2.3

Alarm sound management), the computer will generate specified sound (sound card and

sound box must work properly);

� If window of supervisory control system is minimized and "Automatically open window

during minimized operation" option is selected (see 7.3.7 Setting supervisory control mode

and system parameters ), the system will automatically open the window; otherwise the icon

of system minimized operation will start to flash;

� If window of supervisory control system is placed in background or covered by other

program window and "Display window at foreground" option is selected (see 7.3.7 Setting

supervisory control mode and system parameters ), the supervisory control window will be

placed on foreground above all other windows;

� If the window of area where the alarming equipment is located is minimized, the icon

representing this area window will start to flash;

� If the window of area where the alarming equipment is located is normally displayed, the

icon of station point where the alarming equipment is located will start to flash (if the station

label is not in visible area, roll the network window till it can be seen);

� If the alarm is a network level alarm, the connecting line on subnet where the alarming

equipment is located will start to flash;

� If the alarming equipment is located in current station point, the icon of card of the

alarming equipment will start to flash (if the alarming equipment is not at visible area, roll

equipment window till it can be seen);

� Open alarm display window of alarming unit disk, the alarm sign corresponding to alarm

item will start to flash.

In this way, particular position of alarm can be located step by step

8.3.2 Network level alarm

Sign of network level alarm is continuous flashing or gray connecting line representing the

subnet (if set as flowing mode, flowing will stop). At present, reasons of network level alarms are

as follows:

1. Damaged optical disk, no transmission or reception on optical disk, or optical AIS

(gray and stopped flowing);

2. Network clock failure (flashing);

3. Incomplete network due to equipment deletion (flashing);

4. Group path loop-back going on (flashing);

In case of network level alarm, place mouse on connecting line of alarming subnet to that the

system will give reasons of alarm.

8.3.3 Equipment level alarms

Equipment level alarms are all distributed on card s of equipment and differ with different

types of equipment. See relevant equipment manual for details. To obtain alarm help information,

place mouse on the alarm symbol of relevant alarm item.

8.3.4 Alarm prompt

AN-NM-VIEW provides brief prompt information for each alarm item. Possible causes of

alarms are listed to help clear alarm failure.

See 6.3.4 Alarm prompt message for more details about alarm prompt information.

8.3.5 Alarm records

Command: File->View Logs; File->Print Logs; File->Delete Logs

Command File->View Logs is used to view all alarm records collected since operation

of the system. To view alarm records of all equipment, select "View Logs of all equipment" in

"View Logs" dialog box, and then click "View" button. To view operation records of specified

equipment, select "View Log Files of specified equipment" and input address of the equipment in

link address and equipment address column. Then click "View" button. Address column accepts

wildcard "*". If link address is 1 and equipment address is "*", alarm records of all equipment in

subnet 1 will be viewed.

To print existing operation records, execute command File->Print Logs, and select scope of

printing in "Print Logs" dialog box: all equipment or specified equipment. Then click "Print"

button.

To delete existing operation records and start new records, execute command File->Delete

Logs. This command will delete existing operation records completely, hence be careful to use it.

If you just want to start new records, you can move Error.dbf file under Database directory to

another directory for future restoration if required.

For equipment which supports Q3 interface, alarm records are stored in Access database, use

Microsoft Access to query and manage the alarm records.

8.4 User interface management

8.4.1 Open and close station point

Command: View->Equipment in station; View->Close station

Command View->Equipment in station is used to set current station. After execution of this

command, click left mouse key on station label of the station point in current area, and equipment

in this station point will displayed in equipment window and this station point is also set as current

station. To cancel this operation, press "Esc".

Command View->Close station is used to close current station point. If current station is not

set, this command is gray.

8.4.2 Setting zoom control of equipment view

Command: View->Zoom in ; View->Zoom out ; View->Original Size

These commands are used to adjust zoom control of equipment view in equipment window.

Note: This adjustment is for current station point. Change of settings in current station point

will not affect other stations but will affect opening of other windows of the same station point.

Zoom proportions are defined inside AN-NM-VIEW. Each time command View->Zoom in is

executed, equipment view is amplified to certain proportion; each time command View->Zoom

out is executed, equipment view is reduced to certain proportion; while View->Original Size

command is used to restore normal display of equipment view (1:1). Equipment view cannot be

infinitely zoomed; maximum and minimum sizes are defined inside system.

When no station point is set as current station point, this command is gray.

8.4.3 Auto-arrange equipment view

Command: View->Auto arrange

This command is used to automatically adjust display position of equipment view in

equipment window. The system automatically adjust display positions of all equipment according

to algorithm defined inside the system and referencing equipment sizes in current station point, so

that they are arranged in equal spacing.

When no station point is set as current station, this command is gray.

8.4.4 Refreshing user interface

Command: View->Refresh

This command is used to refresh display of user interface. Execute this command if some

parts of user interface are not correctly displayed.

8.4.5 Toolbar and status bar

Command: View->Tool bar; View->Status bar; View->Tree viewr; View->Information

widow

These four commands are used to display or hide tool bar, status bar, tree view and

information window. Hiding tool bar, status bar, tree view and information window can enlarge

display range of window.

8.4.6 Management of area window

Command: Window->Copy; Window->Cascade; Window->Horizontal arrangement;

window->Vertical arrangement; Window->Arrange icons

These commands are compatible with standard Windows multi-file interface window

management commands. See relevant Windows user manual for their functions and method of

operation (not described in this document). However, it must be noted that Window->Copy

command has more flexible use in AN-NM-VIEW. This command can be used to create copies of

current area window, so that there can be several area windows corresponding to one management

area; but the difference is, you can set new current station in each such window copied. Thus,

window copying technology allows user to observe alarm operation of multiple station point

equipment in the same area. In addition, any modification of area settings made in a copied

window will affect all other windows of this area, so that these copied windows can be

automatically synchronized.

Note: When command File->Save is executed, any modification made on user interface by

above commands will be saved, so that the supervisory control system can automatically restore

user defined interface in next startup.

Chapter 9 Advanced Topics

In this chapter we will introduce some advanced settings and applications of AN-NM-VIEW.

These commands are in the "Advanced" menu of the self-used edition, and provide hot keys;

while only provide hot keys in other editions. Some of these commands could affect the

performance of the supervisory management system, and may cause the system working

abnormally by incorrectly using or setting. Users should use these commands carefully.

9.1 Communication settings

Commands below are used for modifing parameters of communication between console and

monitored equipment, such as serial port selection, serial port parameter settings, equipment baud

rate setting, baud rate fine tuning, etc.

9.1.1 Serial port settings

Command: Advanced-> Serial port settings

This command is used for selecting the communication serial port between console

and monitored equipment, and setting serial port paramters. Computer and monitored equipment

communicate normally only by adopting the same communication parameters.

At present, equipments made by AD-net Company, except very few of them, do not support

communication parameters modification. Parameters are set to be: buad rate = 2400, length of data

bits = 8, length of stop bits = 1, odd parity bit, no flow control, no parity bit check, no carrier

detect.

9.1.2 Buad rate setting

Command: Advanced->buad rate setting

Use this command to set buad rate of RS232 or RS485 serial port of equipment via RS232

port. Before setting, make sure that computer and equipment communicate normally under current

buad rate. This command only works via RS232 port, and does not support network operation. Not

all equipments support this function, please see related user's manual.

After selecting desired buad rate value, click "set" button, then communication buad rate of

equipment is set to desired value, and at the same time serial port buad rate of computer is also set

to the value to insure both sides communicate normally.

Click "query" button to query buad rate of equipment, currently connectted with RS232 port.

After query the buad rate value, the buad rate of the computer is set to such value.

9.1.3 Band Rate Tiny Adjust

Use this command to fine tune buad rate of RS485 serial port of equipment via RS232 port.

Note: this command only takes effect to H860. In the dialog box, "Set" and "Equivalent" are

equivalent. There is a constant transformation relation between the two. Modifing any one of them

will cause the other one changing automatically.

Click "Set" button to send "Set " user inputted into equipment;

Click "Default" button to set buad rate of RS485 serial port of equipment to 2400 (default

value is 127);

Click "Increase" button to add an increment to current buad rate. Thus user could fine tune

uad rate of RS485 serial port of equipment, when knowing nothing about current buad rate (this

command ignores "Set" and " Equivalent " input field).

Click "Decrease" button to subtract a decrement from current buad rate (this command

ignores "Set" and " Equivalent " input field).

The retangle box between "Increase" and "Decrease" button is used for indicating the

performance of commands set value, default value, increase, and decrease. Click "query" button

to query current buad rate of RS485 port, and the retangle box on the left of the button indicates

the performance of query command.

9.2 TABS Parameter settings

This command is used for adjust some control parameters of TABS communication protocol.

Incorrect parameter settings may affect performance of supervisory management system, and even

cause communication breaking between equipment and supervisory management system. The

default value is completely satisfied for user's requirement, so do not change it in haste.

9.3 Query of equipment information of RS232 port

Command: Advanced-> Query Equipment Informations by R232 Port....

Use this command to query address and low level software version of equipment connected

to RS232 port. This command is helpful for project cutting over and address error clear. Thereinto,

"485 buad rate" only takes effect to H860, and does not fit for other equipments. Click "Query"

button to query over again.

Note: for equipment supporting Q3 interface, there are something different in window and

information shown. Product serial number of NE, comment information of NE (such as cut over

time, configuration change time, etc.) can be set in this window. The largest length of Product

serial number is 24 characters (one Chinese character = 2 characters), and the largest length of

comment information is 120 characters, overrun will be truncated.

9.4 Other operations

9.4.1 Query of system capability

Command: advanced->Query System Ability…

This command is used for quering supervisory control capability of user software edition.

Accroding to different network configuration situations, different user's AN-NM-VIEW have

some differences in supervisory control capability, in another word controllable equipment types

are different.

Generally, AD-net Company makes management software according to user's order form, so

that AN-NM-VIEW does not provide supervisory control capability to the equipment out of order

form. If user needs to increase supervisory control capability of AN-NM-VIEW after network

extension or reconstruction, please contact AD-net directly.

9.4.2 Advanced options

Command: advanced->Appearance…

This command is used for controlling operation manner of supervisory control system and

setting system look, alarm manner, etc. The dialog box comes up as below:

"Disable Unequipped Alarm" check box is used for controlling system to give a no

equipment response alarm or not. If you want to disable this alarm, please clear this check box.

Note: this option has a higher priority than "Threshold of no response (min.)" in 7.3.7. When

clearing this option, system will not give no equipment alarm, even "Threshold of no response

(min.)" is not 0.

"Auto control when Unwonted Change" and "Alarm when Unwonted Change" are used

for controlling supervisory control system to take actions or not when detecting that configuration

data (such as cross connection setting, clock, etc.) reported by equipment differs from the data

stored in supervisory control system database (only for AN-700, other types do not support this

function). When detecting configuraion data unmatched: to let supervisory control system

automatically control equipment accroding to configuration data in the database, please select "

Auto control when Unwonted Change "; otherwise, to let supervisory control system give an

alarm, choose " Alarm when Unwonted Change ".

"Change Param", "Control Action " and "Compare" combo box are used for controlling

system whether to generate related log file during operating. Thereinto, "Change Param" is used

for controlling whether to record control parameter changed when network configuration changing

(such as channel reassignment); "Control Action " is used for controlling whether to record every

control command and its parameter sent to equipment; "Compare" is used for controlling whether

to make a record when detecting differences between configuration data reported by equipment

and that stored in system database.

"Auto Cut" check box and the textbox thereafter are used for controlling the management

of system log, meanings of these item speak for themselves.

"Create Log File" check box is used for controlling the system whether to record every

alarm gathered, in another word whether to generate system log.

"Synchro Receive" check box is used for controlling supervisory control system whether to

enter in synchronize waiting state after sending a query or control command until equipment

answers or timeout. Selecting this check box will cause system response to user getting worse.

"Appearance..." button is uesd to control display manner of station laber and equipment

view in normal state and alarm state, showed as below. "Site Icon" combo box is used for

controlling display manner of station laber in network window, such as Deluxe Icon, Flash Site

Icon on Alarm, etc. User could define the color of solid border as like or restore to default. "Alarm

sign" button is used to controlling whether or not to display alarm sign (alarm light) and its

position and size when detecting alarm in certain station. "Unit Card’s appearance" combo box

is used for controlling display manner of unit disk in equipment view, such as display color in

normal state and alarm state, and whether display the Highest Alarm Color on Alarm ,Deluxe

Eqp ,Flash Card Icon on Alarm, etc. User could define the color of unit disk and solid border as

like or restore to default.

Note: modifications made to " Alarm item color " and "Appearance" aim at whole

supervisory control system, not only current area and station. If the settings to station laber and

equipment appearance are not proper, it will affect alarm abservation.

9.4.3 Update sublayer program

Command: Advanced-> Update…

This command is only fit for updating sublayer program for H9MO-1641 and H9MOS series.

After executing, a dialog box shows up: thereinto, "Connection parameters selectiong"

make selection according to the connection manner between console and monitored equipment; in

"Eqp Type" select corresponding equipment type; in "File type" select sublayer program need to

update, notice to select the right file, otherwise it may cause equipment cannot normally startup;

input IP address of corresponding equipment in "S[ecofoed"; input file name need to download in

"Path" (need complete path). Click "Download" button to start update process, then you will

see the progress bar in the dialog box changing. If the file is successfully downloaded, "Download

successful" will appear below progress bar; otherwise, "Download failed" will appear.

This command is used for system data file backup and recover. The UI shows as Fig. 9-12.

"Backup": backup files under the DATABASE directory into another directory;

"Restore": restore specified file to current directory;

Directories above could be default directory specified by system or those specified by user.

Note: this operation will delete all content under current directory.

9.4.7 Log property

Command: file->Log Property

This command is used for swapping log file. The UI shows as Fig. 9-13.

"Swap": backup ERROR.DBF file under current data directory to another location. The

name format of data file is "ERRORyyyymmdd.DBF" (ERROR year month day.DBF).

"View history": view backup data;

"Specify location": change swap directory;

"Log information": show basic information of current log file, including file name, location,

and file size.

First, specify log file swap location and condition. When thd file size is larger than the

specified value, system will swap the log file to the specified location.

9.4.8 Set real time clock

Use this commmand to query and set real time clock of equipment.

9.5 Advanced operations

Commands below take equipment as operation object, but provide functions like batch

processing. A command could control all area or all equipments in current area or certain subnet.

Each command has its corresponding hot key. Note: when using hot key, operation object of the

command correspond to input focus and cursor position. When input focus is in equipment

window (click left mouse button in equipment window to move input focus into equipment

window): if cursor is on certain equipment view of current station, operation object will be such

equipment; otherwise, operation object will be all equipments of current station. When input focus

is in network window (click left mouse button in network window to move input focus into

network window): if cursor is on the line of certain subnet of current area, operation object will be

all equipments of such subnet; otherwise, operation object will be all equipments of all subnet in

current area.

Meanings of each command will be token here, see ralated section above. Here is the list of

ralated commands and their hot keys. When executing these commands via menu, you need to

select operation object via commands below, i.e. all area, current (active) area, specified subnet or

equipment.

9.7 Command line parameters

You can control startup and look of the system via command line parameters.

moni [database directory][/ns][/np] [/dlg:rgb(r,g,b)]

[database directory]: Used for specifing the database directory opened when system startup.

If you want to specify the database directory when startup, this directory must be in the position of

first parameter of the command line. Must use absolute path. If this parameter is not specified,

network configuration and UI configuration data will be loaded from the default directory

(database subdirectory under the supervisory control system directory) or the directory last used.

/ns: set no screen saver when system startup;

/np: do not show software version and copyrights when system startup;

/dlg:rgb(r,g,b): specify background color of supervisory control system dialog box (including unit

disk alarm dialog box), r, g, b are used for specifing color value. Default background color is gray

(that is rgb(192,192,192)).

C Problem tips

This section answers user questions for problems encountered in operation. These answers

will help user quickly master operation of AN-NM-VIEW. When you encounter abnormal system

operation, first check for problems in operating system and communication hardware (e.g. virus,

damaged serial port etc.). When you are convinced that operating system and communication

hardware are OK, refer to the following to troubleshooting.

1. Why the prompt "Failure to open communication part COMx"?

A: This serial port is occupied by other application software or damaged or not installed in the

operating system.

2. Why appear "Mismatched equipment type" reply?

A: Inconsistent AN-NM-VIEW supervisory control environment setting with actual physical

network. E.g. physical subnet consists of AN-760 equipment while subnet set in supervisory

control environment is AN-860 equipment.

3. Why appear "Mismatched L3 command" reply?

A: This is most often caused by wrong serial port, e.g. wrong selection of serial port.

4. Why response of operating system is slow when supervisory control system is started?

A: Since the supervisory control system requires periodic interrupt to visit monitored equipment to

obtain their operation statuses, certain percentage of CPU processing time will be occupied. When

key station computer processing capability is poorer, this percentage is rather high so that user

response becomes slow.

5. Why some menu commands are gray?

A: This is because user authority is insufficient or does not satisfy execution conditions. E.g. when

there is no equipment in current station point, command "Set->Move equipment" cannot be

executed.

6. Why there is alarm on equipment while corresponding equipment view and station point

do not flash?

A: Because alarm mask has been set or setting of alarm display mode is not proper.

7. Why some alarm items are red while others are black?

A: Alarm items screened by mask are displayed as a status and hence black; unscreened alarm

items are displayed in normal mode and hence red (Note: alarm color option shall be set to red).

8. How to view alarm conditions of several station equipments at the same time?

A: See 8.4.6 Management of area window .

9. Why the supervisory control system does not give audible alarm when an alarm is

detected?

A: Check the following:

(1) If option "Audible alarm by system on detection of alarm" is selected;

(2) If sound card has been properly installed;

(3) If sound card volume is tuned to suitable position;

(4) If sound box is turned on and tuned to suitable volume;

(5) If sound file exists.

10. How to establish supervisory control environment when there are too many subnets?

A: Define several areas each managing several subnets.

11. Why some subnets or equipment cannot be queried?

A: Check if query switch of these subnets or equipment is open. Refer to 7.3.7 Setting supervisory

control mode and system parameters.

12. Why some subnets or equipment have less occurrences being queried?

A: Check query priority of these subnets or equipment. Suitable increase of such priority can

increase such occurrences. See 7.3.7 Setting supervisory control mode and system parameters for

details.

13. Why no subnet or equipment response prompt?

A: Possible reasons are:

(1) Failure or shutdown of equipment;

(2) Wrong serial port setting or damaged serial port;

(3) Wrong communication parameters;

(4) Communication cable failure, etc.

(5) "Threshold of no response (min.)" and "Polling" are not properly set, see 7.3.7 Setting

supervisory control mode and system parameters.

14. Why "Empty query queue, stop query" prompt?

A: No subnet or equipment query switch open; query dispatch queue is empty. See7.3.7 Setting

supervisory control mode and system parameters for details.

15. What is the difference between supervisory control via 485 port and that via 232 port?

A: For most equipment types, you can monitor and control only one subnet or one piece of

equipment through 232 port while several subnets or pieces of equipment can be monitored and

controlled through 485 port. For some types of equipment, subnet address cannot be identified

when monitored and controlled through 232 port and false response or wrong response problem

described by question 16 can occur. Whatever the number of subnets or equipment, normally

configured supervisory control system shall use 485 port for supervisory control.

16. Why "No response from subnet X, subnet Y replying" prompt?

A: Key station intends to query status of subnet X, but subnet Y replies. This situation can only

occur when 232 port is used for supervisory control of equipment, because subnet address will not

be checked for some equipment during supervisory control through 232 port and therefore such

equipment can reply. Adoption of 485 port can eliminate this failure.

17. What is the difference between "No response" and "Interrupted supervisory control

reporting"?

A: Extended "No response" of equipment or subnet will develop to "Interrupted supervisory

control reporting".

18. How to restore display of card deleted from equipment view?

A: First clear equipment alarm and then execute command "Confirm system configuration".

19. Why "Unidentified equipment type" alarm?

A: Equipment that can not be monitored and controlled by the supervisory control system has been

selected. See 9.4.1 Query of system capability for details.

20. Why appear the alarm that subnet (or equipment) has no such function?

A: Since AN-NM-VIEW is an integrated management system, all our products can be controlled

in this environment. However, for different types of equipment, management functions can differ a

little bit. AN-NM-VIEW will give such prompt when a management function that cannot be

realized on subnet or equipment in intended so as to prevent such operation.
