Last year Azalea Park neighbors contributed 44 twenty-five pound bags of rice. Once again I am willing to collect money from residents and pick up bags at Costco up until November 13. October 2018

The San Diego Asian Youth Organization is holding their 9th Annual

Thanksgiving Rice Drive to benefit families in need. Last year Azalea

Park neighbors contributed 44 twenty-five pound bags of rice. Once

again I am willing to collect money from residents and pick up bags at

Costco up until November 13. A 25# bag, which is preferred by SDAYO,

costs $8.49. You can bring cash or checks to the next two Azalea Park

Neighborhood Association meetings or drop off checks to my locked

mail box at 2609 Tuberose St. Or you can drop off rice or send money

directly to the San Diego Police Department Multi-Cultural Community

Relations Office. See flyer to the right for complete details.

I Love A Clean San Diego reports approximately 7,000

volunteers at the September 15 Coastal Cleanup Day at

106 locations all over the county removed an estimated

130,000 pounds of debris. We had eight sites here in City

Heights, all captained by neighbors who have been

canyon and creek stewards for years. San Diego

Canyonlands supported these captains where needed but

all are experienced in managing large teams of volunteers

and how to properly fill a 40-yard dumpster. 290 volun-

teers helped out in City Heights and removed over 28,000

pounds of debris. So…City Heights had 4 percent of the

total volunteers and collected 22% of the total amount of

trash collected in the county!!! My own experience tells

met this is due to debris left in our canyon and creek areas

by homeless. SDPD confirms that our Mid-City Division

now has more homeless than any other division in the City.

I can't begin to express how grateful I am for all of our

captains and volunteers for their heroic efforts to save our

community from being turned into a trash dump. And for I

Love A Clean San

Diego for organizing

this great event and

arranging to get 40
