ts George’s shared an idea that has worked across several Rotary Clubs; its called “Pairing” where a Rotary club schedules an event with another organization in the community. George used as an example A Chile, Hotdog, Corn Cob event at Rotary House with, for example, the Salvation Army as the “paired” organization. Members of both organizations would attend paying a cover charge of $10 or $20. Some additional fundraisers could be incorporated into the evening and from which each organization would profit. The advantages:
Ø New members perhaps, Ø Its easy to schedule and we have a great venue for this
kind of an event Ø Its an opportunity for PR in both groups newsletter Ø If the fundraiser is for a cause and a cheque presented
local media would be interested
Ø Allan updated our Sandcastle responsibilities. Our first shift is on Friday morning 8:45.
Ø George reminded members to collect stickers for donated Rotarian Magazines.
Ø Doug rubbed salt in the wound of Rider fans after the BC come from behind, last paly win on the weekend. I can hear Bob saying “OK Doug but the Grey Cup is played in November not July”.

When Deb was preparing for her year as Sunrise President in 2013-14 she identified Literacy as her priority and in doing so reminded all of us that Literacy wasn’t only about learning to read. Such things as warm clothing, school lunches, satisfactory hygienic conditions, and available transportation resources were also things that helped to make learning easier and effective. Deb and her Board made all of those things happen and as a result our Club received a District Literacy Award for more than 10 Community and International Literacy Projects.
Deb thanks for the vision and for your leadership, well done!

President Mike had asked members to come prepared to discuss our Roses Fundraiser – “should we or should we not schedule a Rose Fundraiser in the 2015-16 Rotary year.“ The issue was being discussed as a result of the poor quality of the roses last year and the impact that may have on sales this year. A good discussion followed and the decision was to schedule a Rose Fundraiser for this Rotary year.
