TALKING POINTS
Your book has a fascinating premise. Can you elaborate on it?The Earth’s magnetic field is overdue for a dramatic change that may have repercussionsfor every living creature on the planet. The event, in which the north and south polesreverse positions, is referred to by scientists as a “magnetic polar shift.” It usually occursevery sixty million years, but is now five million years overdue.
What inspired you to write this book?I’m fascinated by polar shift theory, as well as by simple, everyday observations. When Isaw bees circling in tall columns in Burbank, California, it made me wonder what couldcause such things to happen. I had been reading up on polar shift theories, and thisseemed like the kind of problem it could cause. I also understood “hotspot” theory, which
asserts that in the case of a change in the earth’s magnetic fields, small pockets will shiftpolarity before the poles do.
Can you get into a few more details about this fascinating book?Resonance follows the work of four scientists as they uncover a catastrophe in themaking. Dr. Becky Sorenson makes a shocking discovery about the mutated frogs she’sresearching. Dr. David Carter II has his first solid proof for his polar shift theory. Then,Dr. Jordan Abellard and Dr. Jillian Brookwood discover the “next big disease” although no one at the CDC will believe them. All four meet up in McCann, Tennessee, which they discover is one of the first polar shift hotspots. As the people of McCann dieof Abellard and Brookwood’s mysterious disease, the scientists struggle to get control of
the situation and succeed until the illness goes global.
Who do you think your audience will be?Resonance will appeal to thrill seekers, science buffs, action-adventure lovers and sci-fior medical-mystery readers. But, it’s also an important read for anyone who wants tolearn more about science and the possible threats of polar shifts.
Do you think the premise of the book will impact our lives today?Although Resonance is fiction, the science behind it is not. The poles really are shifting.Frogs really are mutating. Whole species are in fact dying for no explainable reason. Andhotspots may actually exist just look at the Bermuda Triangle theories .
Some of the major turning points in Resonance eerily echo real-world events thatsome scientists believe portend the upcoming shift .That’s true. There are many things going on in the real world that I emphasize in thebook, such as:
• The shocking proliferation of mutated amphibians• Growing proof of the polar shift theory• Unexplained mass deaths across various species
