A new secondary school for SevenoaksThe school will be four form entry (120 students per year) for both boys and girls aged 11-19, and will have Christian values. It will be non-selective but high achieving. It will be a ‘Free School’: a new government- funded school set up in response to demand from parents. It is planned to open in 2013 with Year 7 students only and build to full capacity. The school will be open to people of all faiths and none.

What will a new Free School in

Sevenoaks mean for local people?

A new secondary school in Sevenoaks will meet the demand for faith education in this area and avoid students having long, tiring and expensive journeys to school. It will also provide more local secondary places for the growing numbers of secondary-aged pupils. We aim to found the school on the Wildernesse site, but this has not yet been secured. If an alternative site is selected we will ensure that the details of this are published on our website at the earliest opportunity.

How will the Free School be funded? The school will be an independent state school, directly funded by the government. The Department for Education (DfE) will provide funding for Sevenoaks Christian School at a level comparable with other state schools. The school will manage its own budget and will be free to raise money to support the enhancement of education for the benefit of all its pupils. A Trust has been set up (Sevenoaks Christian School Ltd) which will be responsible for the operation and standards within the school.

What sort of education will Sevenoaks Christian School offer

young people?

LocalOur school will be at

the heart of our community. Less time spent travelling

means more time for students to be part of our local community, engaged in clubs, sport and

service.Christian

We want all students to appreciate the spiritual dimension to life, respect diverse viewpoints, and

develop strong moral values.

High Achieving

We will expect the best from all our students.

Success comes in many forms, from achieveing a university

place to excellence in creative arts and sporting

prowess. All will be celebrated. Nurturing

We want students to be happy and fulfilled at

school and to develop self-confidence. The small size of the school, coupled with the tutor system and chaplaincy

provision, will allow us to know each student

well.

DisciplinedClear frameworks and

boundaries help students develop self discipline. This is a benefit at school and also in later life. We want our students to be known

as polite and helpful.

ServingWe want our

students to experience the joy of serving others and for this to become

a part of a life-long pattern.

Currently, the Trust is using the name ‘Sevenoaks Christian School’ as a working title. However, the Trust would like to hear your views on an alternative name for the school. Please indicate your preferred name by ticking one box below.
