Let the Joy Return

“Restore unto me the joy of thy Salvation and uphold me with thy

free Spirit then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be

converted unto thee.” - Psalm 51:12-13

There is a definite connection between a believers joy and evange-

lism. David in his confession asked the Lord to restore the joy of Salva-

tion. Vance Havner said, “The church suffers today from a saddening lack

of old-fashioned simple-hearted overflowing, Christian joy. We have plen-

ty of enthusiasm and denominational zeal, but Christians and churches

that started out in revival fires are living in the smoke”.

Joy is good medicine for the soul. When we begin to reflect on our

relationship with Christ and see how blessed we are to be forgiven, headed

for heaven, having the Holy Spirit as our constant companion and being in

fellowship with others. The joy can return.

Daniel focused on the Lord and his sin became apparent. When he

confessed and asked for forgiveness his focus shifted to others. He wanted

to see others come to the Lord. The word joy in an acronym reminds us:

J - Jesus

O - Others

Y - You

When we put Jesus first others second and ourselves third, our joy can be

complete. Pastor Phil Toole puts it this way:

J - Jesus

O - Zero

Y - You

He says the O stands for zero. The way to stay close to Jesus and keep joy

in your heart is to let nothing between Jesus and you. We need the joy of

salvation.

God Bless,

Brother Guy

NEWS FROM TYLER

It has been another busy month for the Youth and Children’s ministries! August 22nd was our first big Children’s Ministry meeting! A lot was discussed in the meeting and a lot was decided as well! For starters we have decided to revamp our Sunday morning Children’s church! Currently we have been running Children’s Church for kids aged 3 years old up to kids who are in Kin-dergarten. We are going to continue along with that same class but we are also going to add two new classes for Children’s Church. We are adding a class for 1st and 2nd graders as well as a class for 3rd and 4th graders! The plan is to begin a rotation of teachers/helpers for each of the classes! We have a great group of people who have vol-unteered so far to do that but we could still use a few more volunteers if anyone would still like to get plugged in!

The curriculum is very easy to use and doesn’t require much extra work from those volunteering! It is called “The Story” and it follows the bible as one big “Story” pointing to Jesus! I am excited to start this and pray the Lord would use it to grow and teach the kids of the church about his perfect plan. We will begin this new routine on Sunday, September 11th.

We also decided to change up our Wednesday night children’s activities for this year! We are go-ing to make a change to TeamKID. TeamKID, much like RA’s and GA’s has a focus on missions and show-ing the kids the importance of missions, but it also has a strong focus on learning the bible. TeamKID en-courages kids to not just memorize scripture but it also encourages them to learn what those scriptures

mean! We will be starting with TeamKID on Wednesday September 14th! If you are interest-ed in learning how to get involved on Wednes-day nights, please feel free to contact me! I am very excited for these new endeavors in the Children’s Ministry! I have been praying for this ministry since before we movedhere to Fulton, and am excited to see it coming together! We have spent a lot of time the past few weeks doing a lot of work in our Youth Room at the new building and it is really start-ing to come together! We had a Youth night painting party and it was a definite success! The room is now painted! Each step is a step closer to being done, but I believe we will be able to finish the youth room in the next few weeks!

I have a question to pose…..What connects construction and food??

Answer: Our very own construction crew! We have 8 to 12

volunteer fellows that put in 8 to 12 hours every day work-

ing tirelessly to finish our new worship campus. In working

those hours, they need a lunch meal Monday through Fri-

day. There is always a sign-up list at the “Welcome Center”

for the following items such as the main dish, veggie, salad,

dessert and SERVER. You can sign up for any portion or

for the whole meal. If you are not able to serve then we

can find someone who can set food out for you. You bring it, we will get it served.

Some questions that have been asked over time are:

Where do the guys eat? It is easier on all if we serve them at the old church building fellowship

hall. This gives them a break from the heat, a place to sit down and away from the work site.

What about drinks? The kitchen crew tries to keep tea and lemonade made up and ready to serve.

You will find the containers usually in the new refrigerator in the fellowship hall.

What time do the fellows like to eat? They usually try for Noon but whatever time you have it

ready….they will come. They have eaten as early as 11am and as late as 12:45pm.

What do they like to eat? The million-dollar question! They have eaten everything from soup and

sandwiches to all in one casseroles. A salad and dessert always go well.

Actually they will eat anything that you bring. It is totally up to you.

Can I donate money instead of fixing a meal? Yes, when money is designated

it is used for those days there is no one signed up for a meal.

I hope this helps motivate you to help out. If you have any other questions, please

don’t hesitate to ask. Blessings….. Kathy Thomas
