SCRIPT Question 4

The audience for my film opening will be very specific. This is because all horror films tend to specify to one general audience. Through research before hand I found

out a lot about the audience of horror films which allowed me to adapt to my film opening. Within this question I will explain how my target audience is segmented

and who will want to watch it.

Age – We chose to classify our age as 15. As a pair we had a large debate on whether to class it as a 15 or an 18. Furthermore, we researched the vital difference between the two ratings on the British Board of Film Classification website. A 15 film would include everything you would expect such as strong violence and language, sexual

nudity and drug taking. Whereas a 18 rating film would have extremely strong violence, language and sexual nudity, real sex and discriminatory behavior. Even

though how horror film is extremely scary and tense, it sticks to the conventions of a 15 rated film. Therefore the age of the audience will be 15 or above.

Gender – There is no specific gender to our film, any gender can watch it. However

because of the love story at the beginning of the opening it could draw some females’ attention because stereotypically and statistically females watch a film

with some sort of love story within. As 85% of an audience of a love film is a female. Even though we didn't’t go out of our way to make this attract females, this may

encourage females to watch the rest of the films. As well as 58% of women watching horror movies anyway. I think our film opening matches the target audience we

wanted to meet.

Demi: Did you enjoy the film opening?

Shannon: What was your favourite element of the film opening?
