SL27MVENETIAN BLIND
The ScreenLine® SL27M Venetian blind with motor inside the head rail for incorporation
within a double-glazed unit, is manufactured in accordance with high technical specifica-
tion and production standards.
The Venetian blind operation, the slat tilting and the blind raising / lowering functions, are
achieved by way of an encoder motor that permits a constant speed resulting in a gua-
ranteed synchronized function for multiple blinds. Special software determines the setting
of blinds end stops, by a process of self-learning.
The motor has two speeds. Slow speed during (a) the tilting action to ensure a more pre-
cise slat orientation and (b) when approaching the end stops to avoid sudden braking.
The blind slows before reaching the top and bottom limits in order to avoid excessive
stress on the cords and to guarantee a longer life to the components. The faster speed
allows quicker raising and lowering. The motor and the entire electronic blind manage-
ment system are positioned within the head rail, on a specially designed slide incorpora-
ting a shock absorber system to reduce any vibration and significantly reducing any
“noise” effect. The slide is also equipped with a specially integrated electric socket with a
snap-in connector to the spacer bar allowing connection to the external power supply,
thereby maintaining a complete hermetic seal to the unit.

1.
The electric system incorporates a polarity inverter allowing the raise and lower function of all the
connected blinds to be fully synchronized using only two wires.
A mechanical end-stop incorporated within the head-rail, ensures a safety stop of the blind in the
lower position. The design of the cord-winding system results in greater precision of the parallel
function of the blind bottom rail during raising and lowering. The cord and ladder tape applica-
tion has been redesigned resulting in improvements to the vertical nature of the ladder tape
which improves slat parallelism and increased shading of the slats by reduction of the light trans-
fer through the slat holes.

ScreenLine® kit components
On receipt of the goods, check the integrity of the package and
confirm that the components are as detailed on the Purchase
Order. The kit includes:
• venetian blind with corner keys assembled to the upper spacer
bar
• 2 No. standard side flat profile spacer bars (height) - L profile
optional
• 1 No. bottom U profile spacer bar (width)
• 2 No. plastic corner keys
• 2 No. screws
• 1 Metre dual polarity cable with ring connectors attached
Assembly of the integral blind unit
Spacer bars preparation
Fill the appropriate side-spacer bars with requisite amount of
molecular sieve. It is recommended to insert the corner key into
the bottom of each side spacer bar, fill them with the molecular
sieve and “block” the open end with butyl (or fibres), to avoid any
loss of sieve during further operations. Assemble them with the
bottom spacer bar.
Extrude the butyl primary seal both on the assembled blind / upper
spacer bar and then on the rest of the spacers forming the
frame. During this operation, it is recommended great care is
taken with the integral blind, in order to avoid any dirt or damage
of the slats. Assemble all the spacer bars to form the complete
spacer frame.
Ensure that the spacer projection (L profile) faces the soft coated
glass where applicable. Ensure continuity of the butyl seal - parti-
cularly at the corner keys.

Line assembly
Pass the first glass through the washer either on its base or on
its height. Position the assembled kit on the first glass, ensu-
ring that the head rail is on the top or on one side. During this
operation, it is recommended great care is taken with the inte-
gral blind, in order to avoid any dirt or damage of the slats.
Position the spacer frame uniformly on the glass ensuring it is
perfectly parallel and square (avoiding any inwards deflection
of the side spacer bars) and press to obtain a high degree of
adhesion. Proceed with the assembly of the second glass and
pass through the on-line pressing system.
Gas filling
Using the appropriate equipment and in accordance with the
standard procedure replace the internal air with argon.
Testing
After the press operation but prior to applying the final seal,
test the blind function’s using the appropriate power supply /
switch - ensuring that the double-glazed unit is positioned ver-
tically with the blind head rail at the top. Check that the bot-
tom rail reaches the lower spacer bar. We do not recommend
other kinds of electrical devices as power supplier or control.
At the end of the test, raise the blind completely to the top,
and insert the silicon tubes to protect the electric connectors
from secondary sealant.
assembly instructions

blind insertion on the spacer bars
SL27M_GB 15-05-2007 9:23 Pagina 11
Second sealing
Raise the blind completely and apply the final seal in accor-
dance with EN1279-2 regulation.
The secondary sealant should be applied ensuring that the area
around the silicone tubes is completely filled either by the auto-
matic sealing machine or by hand. The silicon tubes should
remain straight and not damaged.
Where the final seal is applied horizontally any glass deflection
should be corrected by equalisation after curing i.e. the glass
surfaces should be parallel particularly in the centre. After the
polymerisation of the second seal, the protective silicon tubes
can be removed by pulling them off horizontally.

Notes
1. Position the double glazed unit on the stillage: the unit must
be transported with the head rail at the top; where this is not
possible, lie the unit on its longer side with the blind vertical
and completely raised.
2. During glazing ensure the integrated unit is perfectly verti-
cal in the frame in order to avoid any friction between bottom
rail and glass surface during raising and lowering.

SL1807- “M” control unitThis unit is used to perform the polarity inversion that is necessary for the correct function of the motor, which would be impracticable when using normal switches. Each control unit can control one blind, or can simulta-neously control a group of up to four blinds, depending on the require-ments of the system. The limited dimensions of the unit allow its insertion inside standard electri-cal back boxes. It comprises an electronic card equipped with an electronic relay and a protection fuse that can be easily replaced.
Technical features• Dimensions (mm): 40x40x20• Inputs: - supply, marked as 24 Vdc - connection to the double switch or to the Bus actuator, to be connected
to home automaton systems, as indicated by contact graphics - connection from another control unit, marked as REMOTE; this is used
only for centralised connections to other groups• Outputs: - connection to the blind motor or as a Bus line for connection towards
other control units; marked as MOTOR• Fuse: 6,3 A• Operating temperature: -20 +60°C
NoteThe REMOTE terminal is available to allow the installer to meet the client’s requirements for a variety of group control combinations. This is achieved by connecting the REMOTE terminal to the MOTOR output terminal of another SL1807 control unit. A typical application would be where a single control is required for a number of blinds already controlled individually by a control unit. By connecting a new control unit via the MOTOR output in parallel with all the REMOTE terminals of the existing control units involved in the total operation, the additional control unit, once has been activated, will control all the control units simultaneously.Multiple control systems can be built up using this procedure: for instance, it is possible to create a system consisting of single control units managing the mo-tors, two groups controlled by two additional control units and a general control device carried out by another control unit connected with the REMOTE outputs of the two group control units.

Remote control programmingThe remote control can handle up to 99 different channels, which can be read on the display. Channel 00 is the master channel, to which all the channels of the connected receivers are associated. The receiver can directly control one blind only or - as a master - a group of control units SL1807 and, as a consequence, all the blinds connected thereto. The receiver can store up to 64 different channels, which can be associated with one or more remote control transmitters. In order to recognise the signals coming from the remo-te control transmitter, the receiver must be programmed upon installation. Programming is carried out by implementing a procedure of automatic identification of the remote controls used (self learning), which is activated through the receiver push-button.
Channel storage1. Show the desired channel on the remote control display by pressing
push-buttons or 2. Press the receiver push-button until the corresponding LED turns on3. Release the push-button4. Press simultaneously the raise and lower ( ) keys of the remote control5.

Electrical connectionConnect the terminals located in the top right/left corner of the DG unit (within the perimetric sealing) – see Fig. A - to the ring connectors of the power supply cables, making use of the M2x5-mm screws provided. Fully tighten the screws to avoid accidental loosening, which might break the power feed. The blind must be power supplied (by interposing control unit SL1807 or receiver SL1963) by means of current coming from power supply ST1104 – see Fig. B – that ensures 24V dc constant voltage, the necessary current and the appropriate protection of the motor.
GlazingPosition the DG unit inside the window frame, making sure that the terminals or the wires are not pressed between glass and frame. Gather the excess wires between glass and window frame on the connection side before closing the bead. Adjust possible gaps in the parallelism tolerance by means of the spacers located between glass and frame. In order to ascertain parallelism of the blind, lift or lower it and make sure it has the same distance from the side spacer bars.
NotePrior to applying power to the blind, make sure it is placed vertically into the window frame, with the head rail at the top part. Do not raise or lower the blind when not vertical!!!When make / break contacts are utilised on a window frame, avoid possible sources of short-circuits, by checking the stroke and accuracy of the spring loaded terminals.

OperationThe electrical board, housed inside the blind, controls the latter’s functions, including those related to the blind end stops. The setting of the blind end stops is carried out in the Company during the testing process. The motor has a self-learning process: the blind, during the first two raise and lower operations, is able to recognise its extreme positions and to memorise them. Therefore, the blind will always move within such limit positions. When the motor experiences a sudden increase in energy absorption as a possible
reaching its end stop position. The dedicated software provides two speeds:a slower speed during the first operation seconds for tilt control or when approaching the top or bottom end-stops, and a higher speed for the raising and lowering movements. The blind function is activated by switching the power supply (inversion), performed by the special control unit SL1807 – see Fig.C .It is possible to control the above inversion and raise/lower the blind via a manual switch or by means of the push buttons located on the remote control, which must be of “normally open (NO)” type. The control unit can be also connected (by means of two wires only) to all the blinds (up to four) that need to be moved at the same time.
Note: If a double commutator switch is used (such as the Vimar Idea series 16145 or a rocker switch type two way retractable – centre off), this allows the inversion of polarity then a SL1807, is not necessary. The manual commutator switch can control the blind(s) via two wires only – however the switch must be depressed till the desired blind position is achieved.
In order to move the blind up/down, keep the relevant push button depres-sed until the high speed is activated. Upon its release, the blind will continue to move until the end stop is reached. With Venetian blinds, keep the push button depressed until reaching the desired inclination: such way of working allows accurate positioning of the slats. To stop the blind, it is sufficient that either push button is pressed. To enable the slat tilt-only function to be activated, press simultaneously the up and down push buttons of the switch for at least 10 seconds. Confirma-tion of action is by a short movement of the blind. When the up button is pressed in this tilt-only mode, the blind will rise for no more than 3 seconds. To disable the function, repeat the same procedure.
