SewingEach block takes 4 patches of one fabric and 4 patches of a contrasting fabric. Select 2 sets of patches as shown.

Sew the patches into pairs and press the seam allowance toward the darker patch.

Arrange the units as shown so the darks form a funny-looking capital “L”.There will be two L’s as shown.

Rotate the bottom unit 180 degrees (turn it upside down) as shown and then sew the units together, nestling the opposing seam allowances together in the middle. One block is complete. Repeat with the remaining patches to make a total of 42 blocks.

Use a design wall to arrange the blocks in a pleasing manner, with 6 blocks across and 7 blocks down. Sew the blocks of each row together. Sew the rows together.

Trim the side border strips to fit the quilt. Sew them to the sides. Trim the top and bottom border strips to fit the quilt. Sew them to the top and bottom.

Layer and baste together the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt wavy lines going diagonally across the quilt center. Quilt 3 wavy lines in the border. I used a serpentine stitch on my machine; see my blog post about it at http://tinyurl.com/stashbanditserpentine

Bind the quilt.
