TheConsumerElectronicsAssociationpresentedatRetailVisionresultsfromarecentconsumersurveyaboutbuyingpreferences:25%wouldbewillingtobuyconsumerelectronicsproductsfromStarbucks,30%fromIkea,40%fromBed,Bath&Beyondandalmost60%fromHomeDepot.WhatdoesthismeanforcategoryleaderBestBuy?ForRadioShack?ForCircuitCity?Howcananyretailerfacinginroadsfromnontraditionalcompetitionprotectitsturfandretainitscustomers?

So,shouldBestBuybeworriedaboutHomeDepotmovingintoelectronics?Hardly.ForHomeDepottomakeagoofit,they'llhavetochangealot.Topprioritywouldbetogetmoreemployeesinthestorestoanswerpeople'squestions.ThefolksatHomeDepotarefriendlyenoughandifyoucanfindthem,theyareactuallyhelpful.Problemis,forcostreasons,employeesarefewandfarbetweenatmostHomeDepots.Eventhoughwe'recomfortablebuyingCE,westillhavequestions,oruniquesituationsthatrequiretalkingtosomeone.AslongBestBuykeepsinnovatingthecustomerexperience,theyshouldbeabletodefendagainstscrambledmerchandising.
