Introduction to ScoutBook
• Digital version of the scout handbook
• Company was acquired by BSA this year
• Directly integrated with BSA systems
• Allows safe electronic interaction with leaders
• Only parents receive invites
– Scouts are not required to have their own account
– Parents choose to give scouts access
ScoutBook Features We Plan to Use
• Track Rank Advancement
• Track Merit Badge Activity
• One on One Leader/Scout Communication
– Scouts can have own accounts (parents discretion)
– Scouts can send/receive messages via ScoutBook
– Parents are always included in the conversation

Some ScoutBook features are still a bit lacking

The legend shown here is your guide to understanding rank and
merit badge advancement progress
Advancement Process
1. Scout completes work on a requirement 2. Scout (or parent) marks requirement complete
– Completion date – Add optional text or photo to document completion – These steps are demonstrated in subsequent slides
3. Requirement is now shown “green” (awaiting approval) 4. Scout requests leader APPROVAL by
– Scout (or parent) sends message via ScoutBook, *or* – Scout approaches leader in person (i.e. old school)
5. Leader approves the requirement in ScoutBook (when satisfied that it has been completed)
6. Requirement is now shown “blue” (signed off) 7. When all requirements for rank are met, leader approves rank

Click a rank to verify / update rank information
Top of the advancement page contains rank advancement
Rank Requirement - Completion Date
Add the date the requirement was completed

Use shortcut to return to scouts advancement page
You can navigate to different menu levels using the shortcut bar
Scout Merit Badges
Click here to begin a new merit badge
Click here to verify / update an existing merit badge, works similarly
to the rank requirements, so not repeated here
Merit Badge Specific Page
Once you know the counselors name click here to connect with them
Click a check box to update the individual requirement with dates and documentation (just like rank
requirements)
Connect with Counselor
Click here to add counselor
If the scout has an existing connection with the counselor select them from
the list
Add Counselor as Connection
First search ScoutBook to see if the counselor is already in the system, if
found then select them
If the counselor is not in the system scroll down to begin entering their information
Entering Counselors Information
Select “Merit Badge Counselor”
Scroll down for more Enter counselors
information
Invite the Counselor
Edit the invitation such that the counselor isn’t blindsided,
then click “Invite”
Scout Receives Invite from You
