Scott Rister Some More About Amsterdam

Amsterdam the capital city of The Netherlands is probably the most visited cities, whose majority of the land area is below sea level. Scott Rister who enjoys travelling has so much to talk about Amsterdam. It is a city that is more culturally diverse than other the cities with people from 178 different nationalities who are permanent residents. Another amazing thing about the city is it happens to have around 165 canals that are more than the number in Venice.

For Scott Rister this is the perfect place to spend a summer holiday. Here people travel on bikes and the number of bikes is more than the people here, its a city that is so relaxed and lively where locals also are often seen eating dinner on the streets or on their doorstep. Amsterdam is also famous for its laid back eateries where, I love spending time. These waterside cafes are the perfect place to spend your summer afternoons.

My top picks when in Amsterdam

Hannekes Boom- just across the water from NEMO, yet a local secret, this laid-back waterside caf built from recycled materials has a beer garden with timber benches, picnic tables and summer barbecues. Mellow live music such as jazz or singer-songwriters regularly takes the place.

Bar Moustche- my personal favorite for a drink with friends. This place has an exposed brick, minimalist interior designed by Stella Willing, this loft-style cafe/bar has a mix of communal and private tables that fill with hip locals, and a couple of coveted window-sill benches to watch the action along Utrechtsestraat. They have a stunning, pared-down Italian menu and a great drink selection including Italian wines by the glass.

In de Olofspoort- this brown door caf was once the city gate. Now you can see a crew of regulars with jenever bottles stocked just for them. They have a jaw-dropping selection behind the back room, bar and if lucky you get a chance to hear the occasional sing along that take you to another level of the atmosphere.

De Belhamel- a lovely French restaurant is perfect in warm weather with canal-side tables at the head of the Herengracht are an aphrodisiac. The sumptuous art nouveau interior provides the perfect backdrop for super French and Italian inspired dishes such as truffle-parsley-stuffed guinea fowl with polenta, a rack of lamb with aubergine biscuit and pepper coulis, and honey- and mustard-marinated veal.

For a foodie like me says Scott Rister Amsterdam is the place to be with the lovely canal side cafes that make my holiday all the more perfect. Plan your next holiday here as it is one of the few cities that meld history with modern urban flair and the only place where you will see candles burning in all bars and restaurants.
