NATA Committee on Professional Ethics I have served on the national Council on Professional Ethics for three years now. It is an eye opening committee that I highly encourage anyone who is interested in enforcing ethics within our profession to consider. I have thoroughly enjoyed the many other professionals on the committee and found it to be a very well functioning group - i.e. - everyone gets along and works toward a common purpose; no power plays or egos involved. For the newly certified young professionals out there looking for a place to volunteer, this would be a fantastic first national level committee! Debbie Craig, PhD, AT, LAT

I would like to announce that the Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee is seeking qualified applicants for its District 7 representative. NATA, held a strategic planning meeting on October 5th and 6th. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways for the alliance members to work together on strategic issues to advance the profession. Among the secondary goals was to develop plans to ensure ATs know the roles, responsibilities and differences of each organization. The meeting was very productive. NATA was represented by President Scott Sailor, Past President Jim Thornton, Associate Executive Director Rachael Oats and Executive Director Dave Saddler. Look for increased communications from the alliance itself and from NATA and the other members regarding alliance activities. The meeting was held at the BOC headquarters in Omaha and the alliance members were appreciative of the extra efforts by the BOC staff. NATA  Endorses  NCAA  Inter-‐Association  Consensus  Statement  on  Cardiovascular  Care  of  College  Student  Athletes    During its September conference call, the NATA Board of Directors voted to endorse the NCAA’s Inter-Association Consensus Statement on Cardiovascular Care of College Student Athletes. New  Director  of  the  NATA  Foundation    The NATA Foundation is pleased to announce the hiring of Shelley Tims as the new Director of the NATA Foundation. Tims joins the NATA Foundation with a tremendous amount of experience. She most recently served as Executive Director of BvB (Big D Powderpuff Tackling Alzheimer’s, Inc.) in Dallas. Federal  Legislation  and  Regulation    ·  _H.R. 921: The Sports Medicine Licensure Clarity Act, has 88 co-sponsors, and the Senate version, S. 689, has seven co-sponsors. · _H.R. 829: The SAFE PLAY Act, has 41 co-sponsors, and the Senate version, S. 436, has one co-sponsor. · _H.Res. 112: The Secondary School Student Athletes’ Bill of Rights, has 24 co-sponsors, and S. Res. 83 has one co-sponsor. Contact your member of Congress to ask for support on these bills! NATA hosted the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity (NCPPA) Executive Board meeting. Initiatives and legislation to promote physical activity were discussed. A1, NATA sent the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services comment letter on the CMS revision for Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. We expressed concerns that the revision would limit patient access to care and prevent athletic trainers from performing services for which they are qualified and have extensive experience. NATA attended an in person CMS meeting. We are pleased to begin a dialog to see how our organizations can work together.

NATA contributed information to the Sport Section of the National Physical Activity Plan (NPAP) and is participating on the Board work group. NPAP is created by the National Physical Activity Plan Alliance, which is a coalition of national organizations that have come together to ensure that efforts to promote physical activity in the American population will be guided by a comprehensive, evidence-based strategic plan. NATA attended meetings or conferences with Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Conference, and the National Association of Accountable Care Organizations conference. NATA wrote a letter in regards to the United States Army Medical Command’s Memorandum for Commanders to ensure that federal policies and programs are implemented that recognize the specialized role athletic trainers play in the provision of medical care in the U.S. Army. We also had several members of Congress weigh in on this subject. State  Legislative  Affairs  The Colorado leadership continues to work on preparing a bill in order to avoid losing their regulation. In meetings with multiple legislators they have secured a Republican sponsor in the Senate and Democrat sponsor in the House. They have also recently gained support from Osteopaths and the Physical Therapy Association. Their efforts are focused on building a bipartisan list of co-sponsors in each chamber. EBP  Webinars    Last month it was reported that two EBP webinars were being held during the latter part of September and October to help ATs acquire needed EBP Category CEUs for reporting this year.
