    Australian Popular Music

    Observing various forms of popular music that reflect the diversity of Australian society and its reception of multicultural influences. Practising to perform the pieces: Advance

    Australia Fair, Waltzing Matilda, The Marching Ants, and The Simpsons. Through examples of popular pieces, students learn the concepts of pitch and duration. Realising

    these concepts by creating short melodies on the keyboard.

    Australian Electronic and Enviromental Music

    The development of electronic music in Australia. The impact of technology on the methods of creating music. The use of environmental and computer-generated sounds as a new musical palette. Through examples taken from Soundworks by Sarah de Jong and Yellow is not

    Yellowsoundtracks by Sarah Hopkins, students learn the concepts of dynamics and expressive techniques. Exploring and manipulating the electronic keyboard by using its tone bank, song

    bank and rhythmic patterns to create short works.

    Indigenous Australian music

    The music of Aboriginies and Torres Strait Islanders. The didgeridoo and other musical instruments. Contemporary Indigenous Australian music and its numerous styles. Jimmy Little's song "The Royal Telephone". Yothu Yindi's "Treaty". Through examples taken

    from trditional and contemporary indigenous Australian music, students learn the concepts of tone colour and texture.
