Inquiry depends on how you look at it……………

And someone will say……………………….STOP! They will try to derail you with one of these….

• You are not following The Scientific Method• But there’s no Practical Work• Which is the Independent Variable ?• You need to do a Complete Investigation• You don’t have enough time in one lesson• You must state the hypothesis at the

beginning !

Page 14: Science Inquiry

And you will say…..Inquiry?

Page 15: Science Inquiry

Because……………….

• If you are doing any of these:

• Planning• Obtaining evidence• Analyzing• Evaluating

• Then you are doing Inquiry !

Page 16: Science Inquiry

And don’t worry………………….

• All practical work doesn’t need to be inquiry!• All inquiry doesn’t need to be practical! !• You don’t need a complete investigation!!!

National Science Teachers Association NSTA Position Statement Scientific Inquiry

The National Science Education Standards defines scientific inquiry as “the diverse ways in which scientists study the natural world and propose explanations based on the evidence derived from their work.

Scientific inquiry also refers to the activities through which students develop knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, as well as an understanding of how scientists study the natural world.”
