Science Fair Prep! To help review the scientific method, the 6th grade students designed projects using appropriate processes. Our Process: Step 1: Students were divided into different groups and given a bouncy ball. They had to determine a question & hypothesis before doing background research using their iPads to support their hypothesis. At this point, they created a project materials list and procedure to begin testing. Step 2: The next day, students put their projects to the test! Making sure to only have one manipulated variable, they conducted their tests and gathered data. After examining data, they made their graphs and wrote their conclusions.

Science Fair Prep! To help review the scientific method, the 6th grade

students designed projects using appropriate processes.

Our Process:

Step 1: Students were divided into different groups and given a

bouncy ball. They had to determine a question & hypothesis

before doing background research using their iPads to

support their hypothesis. At this point, they created a

project materials list and procedure to begin testing.

Step 2: The next day, students put their projects to the test!

Making sure to only have one manipulated variable,

they conducted their tests and gathered data. After

examining data, they made their graphs and wrote

their conclusions.

Step 3: After gathering their data & writing their conclusions, the students worked

together to create their presentations.

Step 4: Presentations The last step in the process was for the students

to be able to present and

defend their projects.

Students making connections: “This helped me learn to problem solve better. It helped me to figure out

how to solve things creatively.” - Bianca McCarty

“This project is helping me prepare for science fair by teaching me that

every little variable can change the whole project. “ - Sam Harrison

“This project helped me because it was a reminder of what to do in

science fair. It taught me that you have to do the exact thing when

testing.“ - Sydney Hall

“This project helped me because it explained how energy and gravity

works.” - Luke Rooks

Science Inquiry Objectives: 1. Conduct a scientific investigation utilizing appropriate process skills.

a. Design and conduct an investigation that includes predicting

outcomes, using experimental controls, and making inferences.

c. Use simple tools and resources to gather and compare

information (using standard, metric, and non-standard units of

measurement).

d. Analyze data collected from a scientific investigation to construct

explanations and draw conclusions.

e. Communicate scientific procedures and conclusions using

diagrams, charts, tables, graphs, and written explanations,

f. Evaluate the results or solutions to problems by considering how

well a product or design met the challenge to solve a problem.
