Lithium titanate (LTO) electrode realizes various advantages.
In battery design, chemical reactions are essential. Toshiba utilizes LTO as anode in SCiBTM. Among
others, LTO gives SCiBTM four advantages. First, LTO achieves a fast Li ion migration leading to high
speed charge and discharge. Second, long life is achieved due to small metal deposition on LTO
anode. Third, charging and discharging are available even at -30℃, since metal deposition is also
small at low temperatures. Fourth, safety even when short circuit occurs. If temperature occurs, LTO
emits Li ion and starts to exhibit insulative properties. Thanks to this, the short circuit is signicantly
low and heat exhaust is limited. Toshiba SCiBTM will contribute to ensure a safe and environment
friendly transportation system.
