Introduction

Mrs Jo WilsonMr Andy AuldPrincipal TeacherPrincipal TeacherHealth & WellbeingHealth & Wellbeing Senior PhaseBroad General Phase

Thanks for coming along

Really great to see so many people who are interested in finding out more information on the Schools of sport programme

We will give you an overview of the programme of a whole and afterwards you will have the opportunity to hear from staff and pupils regarding the specifics of each school of programme 3

Background2009 TCSC initiated2011 partnership with SRU2012 partnership with SFA2013 partnership with Basketball Scotland/ Falkirk Fury & NRG Performers2014 will incorporate all 4 programmes

LHS Philosophy on HWB has always been that sport and participation is at the heart of the school curriculum and ethos

Strong sense of wellbeing + feeling well and confident = better learners (Jon Reid)

TCSC (nationally recognised as a model of excellence) was developed to develop sporting opportunities within the school and local community

2011 links were made with the SRU as Rugby was not within the school curriculum or extra curricular programme

2012 further links established through the SFA for a Community Football Programme in partnership with Stenhousemuir FC

2013 Through success of the TCSC partnerships had been developed been developed with NRG Performers and Falkirk Fury leading to the implementation of school of Basketball and Dance

Pupils and Parental feedback has been very positive about the programmes and they are highlight regarded within the school

Extra Curricular participation rates have raised to 91% of S1 taking part in a variety of clubs.

Delighted to be in our current position continuing to offer all programmes

Programme Outline

Pupils will not be part of an S1 HWB class. They will still follow the same HWB curriculum with PSD inserts. In S2 pupils will choose school of a curricular pathway and will then return to mainstream HWB classes. Choose as a subject.

Football is a requirement of the SFA programme that they must complete 5 sessions per week. This year the additional period was taken from expressive arts. Will be timetable dependent.

Application Process

Pupils can apply for more than one school and we would encourage this due to the opportunity it gives them to develop as practical performers and the social benefits the programmes although we understand that some pupils will have a particular interest in one then that is totally acceptable.

When completing the application form pupils should number their preference on the front.

Completed forms should be left at your primary school reception. Billy Brotton Head of Sport will collect on the ??????. Can I draw your attention to the back final page as this must be completed by the primary class teacher and returned with the rest of the application form

The final sheet highlights the trial and interview dates and times.6

Preparing Your Child

Places are in demand for each schoolParental Agreement on Application FormPreparing your childExtensive Extra Curricular ProgrammeCorrespondence

There is great interest in our schools of programmes particularly Football and Dance. We often have more applicants than places and we have to make you aware of that. (Thats why we recommend that if you have an interest in this type of programme we recommend you apply for more than one Frazer Malcolm)

On the application form you will see that there is a parental agreement statement that you must sign. This outlines that you have prepared your child in case they do not get in.

We are fortunate enough to have an extensive extra curricular programme one of the best I have ever seen that offers 63 different clubs that pupils can take part in. Last year we had 91% of our S1 pupils taking part in these clubs.

All of the correspondence will be done via email therefore please provide an email address on the application form. Although the trials start at the end of February for some schools pupils will not find out until the start of May. Both Successful and Unsuccessful candidates will receive an email on the same day.
