Music & Arts Service

Music and arts service Introducing culture to young people

Music and the arts are integral to inspiring self-expression and personal growth in children and young people. Our specialist teaching team offers a range of activities, tuition and support for pupils and staff all the way from early years to graduation.

First access to playing an instrument The joy of music can last a lifetime and often starts in the classroom. We offer whole-class ensemble tuition, lend instruments for free, and provide teaching and encouragement. It’s an important element in our music education hub role, which supports the government’s national plan for music education.

Tuition for small groups We help children who want to learn how to play an instrument get better and progress in the one they choose, including vocals. Our team can provide tuition, and we lend pupils instruments for free.

After-school clubs and school ensembles

Music comes to life when children work together. We can help your school build a successful school band, orchestra or choir during the school day or as an after-school club. It helps bring music centre-stage for your school’s community. Outside of school, pupils can take part in our area bands and music centre ensembles at no extra charge to progress their music even further.

National curriculum music and CPDWe can help your school meet Ofsted requirements for national curriculum music. We offer specialist advice for the classroom on your whole-school approach, and train your teachers including non-specialists. In addition to regular music provision, we can develop short-term workshops and other projects in your school to support cross-curricular and creative learning.

Sandwell music education hubWe are proud to be the lead partner of Sandwell’s music education hub, funded by Arts Council England. All Sandwell schools that buy tuition from us are automatically part of our music hub, which helps unlock the pleasure of music for all young people.

The music hub:

• ensures every child aged 5–18 has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument through whole-class ensemble teaching

• provides opportunities to play in ensembles and perform at an early stage

• ensures that clear progression routes are available and affordable to all young people

• provides a singing strategy to ensure that every pupil sings regularly, and that choirs and other vocal ensembles are available in the area.

Schools workforceMeasuring wellbeing and staff engagement

Your staff are all responsible for making a difference, so it’s important to understand how happy they are at work. We’ve partnered with Education Support Network to offer you a wellbeing survey. It measures your team’s perception of what it’s like to work in your school and indicates current levels of engagement and motivation.

Online survey toolThe online staff survey tool provides a wealth of information and unique insights to help you understand where your school excels and where it can improve.

Insightful for schools Schools that carry out this survey often recommend the service based on the value of what they learn from it. Schools that act on their survey’s results see benefits in a number of areas, including:

• increased productivity and performance

• improved pupil outcomes for schools

• reduced levels of sickness absence and associated costs

• increased staff engagement, improved morale and working relationships

• greater resilience to respond to the challenges of work

• improved staff retention and reduced recruitment costs

• meeting the school’s duty of care as an employer.

We can conduct a pre-survey launch or post-survey feedback, and customise elements of the survey to make sure it works for your school.

We can also advise you about the Staff Engagement Award, which recognises schools’ efforts in improving their cultures, benchmarking against a national database.

Raising AspirationsWork Related Learning and Enterprise Education in Primary Schools

Investing in tomorrow’s workforce today

In an ever evolving economy where employers look for defined skills across a workforce, the Education Business Partnership (EBP) believe that pupils are never too young to be introduced to Work Related Learning (WRL) and Enterprise Education.

EBP - Putting young people first

We aim to encourage all young people to learn and develop in a way that meets their own needs and develops skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work.

Our aim is to empower and inspire young people through high quality, high impact and innovative challenges to:

• Enable students to realise and release their potential and aspirations.

• Provide an opportunity for students to think and act in enterprising ways.

• Employ and encourage support of local businesses to share their personal and work experiences with students.

• Forge meaningful relationships between schools and businesses to raise awareness of specific sectors and career opportunities.

• Provide a clear focus on employability skills and the ability to transfer these to different contexts.

• Promote positive attitudes.

Our Work Related Learning Consultant will work closely with school staff to tailor sessions in order to achieve specific goals set by each school.

Examples of Primary School EBP sessions delivered in schools include:

• Career / Job Awareness Days where SIPS Education use its links with local industry and commerce to invite representatives from local companies to speak at schools allowing pupils to learn about opportunities in their area and also hear about experiences of education, training and work from a wide variety of people in many different work roles.

• Enterprise Challenges designed to highlight and develop pupil’s enterprise skills. All of our enterprise challenges will have a work focus, highlighting how the enterprise skills relate to the workplace. Examples of enterprise challenges include: Fashion Forward, Housing and Community, Money Matters, Music Festival, White Knuckle, Prom Planner and Wedding Enterprise Challenge to name just a few.

Here’s one of the many positive quotes received by our service…

“George Betts has benefitted from experiencing several Enterprise Days thanks to SIPS Education over the last 12 months. Our pupils have found the experiences challenging, fun, practical and memorable. Each day has been unique, offering the children the opportunity to develop and apply real life skills to engaging activities, pitched at their level of understanding. We will continue to enjoy future challenges planned for this academic year.”

Our Work Experience package can be tailored to suit your school needs.

Here’s what our customers say…“We use SIPS Education for Work Experience and have done for the past 8 years, as we have always found

SIPS to be very knowledgeable, approachable and always on hand to advise us in all aspects of health and safety, risk assessments and safeguarding with pupils, whilst out on placements. The team are always on hand to help with new and / or existing contacts and help to bridge that gap between Academy and the Workplace.”

Amanda Birch, Work Experience Co-ordinator, Wood Green Academy

Off Site LearningHere’s what our customers say…“In our recent Ofsted, Inspectors were particularly keen on discussing arrangements for any external AP. The Assessors wanted to know about the placements, the length of time each student spent there during the week and the outcomes they would receive. They asked about any visits and QA that we completed as a school. They were particularly interested in the safeguarding aspects of how each placement had been checked and so it was useful to be able to confirm that we used placements from the placement directory and to be able to show the checks that were done. The Inspectors gave very positive feedback on this.”
