Schoology Introduction
1) There are two websites you will need to visit - ( I would suggest using Google Chrome to open both websites)
The first website ( https://learn.dodea.edu )provides training and resources for teachers to create their courses
and enroll students. The second website will be discussed later.
Once you have set up your courses and enrolled your students, you will not have to go back to this site unless
you want to access the training resources or create a course.
2) Click the “Login” button to access your account.
3) You are presented with two choices to log in. Select the first icon for the Google apps login. Use your Google
Apps credentials to log in.
Use this tab to access training
resources in both print and
video form. Log in not required
to open these resources.
Click here to log into the DoDEA site to
manage your courses and enrollments.
Use your Google apps login credentials.
4) Once logged in select “Create Courses and Enroll Students”
5) In the self-service portal you will have two choices:
a) Manage Courses and Enrollments
This selection is linked with Aspen and it provides an easy way to populate your courses in Schoology.
b) Group & Course Creation Request.
This selection provides a request form for permission to create a group. Permission is granted by the
principal.
Click on
Create Courses and Enroll Students
6) On the next screen you should see your profile and a list of all your courses that you currently teach. The
picture below is from the ET view and it includes all courses taught at the school, you should only be able to
view your current courses.
IMPORTANT- you must create a course before enrolling students.
7) Repeat the process to enroll your students, with one exception - choose the “Enroll Students” box.
STEP 1
Select to create your
course within Schoology
STEP 2
Select to create your
course
8) Now we are ready for the second website, which is the Schoology website (https://schoology.dodea.edu)
There are a few ways to get there: click on the link above, type the address into your address bar, or click the
link on the home page of the learn.dodea.edu website.
9) This screen may appear, use your Google apps log in to continue. If this screen does not appear, then you are
probably already logged into your google account and it will go directly to your Schoology home page (see
picture in #11).
Click on
Login to Schoology
10) This is my homepage, your Schoology home page should be similiar.
11) Pull down the course menu to view the courses you have created or are currently enrolled in.
The crown means that you are the administrator of that course.
If there is no crown, then you are a student in that course.
All of you should see the “Schoology Orientation:Staff” course, every teacher in DoDEA was enrolled.
Open this course and you will see even more training resources.
FYI -All DoDEA students have a similar training course entitled “Schoology Orientation: Student”. Students can access
documents/videos that explain how to access their course content, turn in assignments, and other pertinent
information. At some point you may want to ask a student to show you their folder in order to familiarize yourself
with the resources available to them. The student training folders are different than the teacher training folders.
Click on
Schoology Orientation:Staff
This is a training resource
12) Your next view should be the “Schoology Orientation: STAFF” course. This is similar to the view your students
would see when opening one of your courses after you have set it up.
Click on the folders to open up the available resources, you will find documents (with screen shots) and videos
that will walk you through most of the set up for your course.
Take some time and explore all the resources available to you in each folder.
Remember, there are two sources for Schoology reference materials:
1) The “Schoology Orientation: STAFF” course listed above
2) The material available at https://learn.dodea.edu
14) You can access and move files from your Google Drive to one of your courses in Schoology. You can also select
Khan Academy videos and import them into your courses.
Pull down the Resources menu and click on Apps. You will see two choices: Khan Academy and Google Drive. Both
of the Apps are available for you to use, they are the only Apps that are authorized at this time.
Each folder contains training
materials pertinent to the
named category.
Just click on one of them and then the approve button. As each one is approved you should see the selections for
Khan Academy videos and your Google drive.
Google drive will allow you to import files only; you do not have the ability to move an entire folder from your Google
drive at this time. It can be done indirectly, please ask me if you need to know how to move an entire folder.
This should provide a good introduction to Schoology to get you started.
Explore the different options within your Schoology page, most of it is user friendly and easy to navigate.
Please let me know anytime you have a question or discover something that you think we all could benefit from.
Schoology is very new to all of us, please share any successes or obstacles you encounter.
