Lifelong Learning and Appendix B

Guidelines for writing Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes: First in-depth knowledge of the European Union institutions, EU decision-making, European governance and the concepts of European identity and European citizenship as well as the protection of human rights (European citizens) in the framework of the EU primary law (Charter of Fundamental Rights). This knowledge is acquired for the first time since, during lyceum studies, European Community/ Union issues have not been approached accordingly. Through the scientific aids proposed to the students, we believe that an in-depth approach to these issues is achieved, as these are the most valuable insights on this subject in the context of Greek literature. The students, through their work during the semester and attending the course, but also through their attendance at specialized tutorial classes, demonstrate that they possess the acquired knowledge so that with the evolution and specialization that they will acquire during their studies they will be able to use it on a professional level either by joining EU staff or by employing research in EU-based projects measuring public opinion. The follow-up of this course will enable them to create a strong knowledge base around the European institutional system as well as EU policies that will be further developed through follow-up and specialized seminars during the 3rd and the 4th years of the study programme. As a result, they will be able to interpret all the relevant phenomena in the EU reality and by completing their undergraduate studies they will be able to develop a critical approach to all ethical, scientific and social issues related to European construction and integration. Finally, these abilities allow them to operate with considerable autonomy in their further studies (at postgraduate and doctoral level) as long as they concern the study of the EU and the wider institutional, political and social development of the European space. Skills and competences to be acquired by the students: competences of the institutions, separation of powers within the EU, appeals to the EU Court of Justice, citizens' complaints about breach of primary and secondary EU law, European Learning outcomes: First in-depth knowledge of the European Union institutions, EU decision-making, European governance and the concepts of European identity and European citizenship as well as the protection of human rights (European citizens) in the framework of the EU primary law (Charter of Fundamental Rights), European public opinion polls. Based on the above analysis and starting from the academic year 2019-2020, the course "European institutions" will be offered at two levels: a. theoretical teaching (1.5 hours / week) and b. practical issues analysis, papers work (2.5 hours / week).
