Message from Head boy and head girl

Hello parents and carers,

This week Year 2 Beech have been learning lots of interesting things. In maths,

they have been partitioning numbers from one to ten and practising their

number bonds. In English, they have been reading the beautiful picture book,

Giraffe’s Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. They have acted out the story, made

predictions about what might happen next and then written their own version

of the story. On Friday, they all dressed up as Rock Stars to celebrate the

launch of TT Rock Stars with the rest of the school.

Safeguarding & Children’s Mental Health

Who are the DSL/DDSL’s

Ms Magdalena Naworska SENCo

Designated Safeguarding Lead

Miss Julie Davis Principal

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

John Wood School & Nursery safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility and our top priority. We have many policies and procedures in school that are in place to keep everyone safe. These can be found on our school website for more information.

What is a Designated Safeguarding Lead / Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead?

Governing bodies should ensure that the school designates an appropriate senior member of staff to take lead responsibility for child protection. Key aspects of the ‘Designated Safeguarding Lead’ role:

Making sure all staff are aware how to raise safeguarding concerns

Ensuring all staff understand the symptoms of child abuse and neglect

Referring any concerns to social care

Monitoring children who are the subject of child protection plans

Maintaining accurate and secure child protection records

Raising awareness of the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures, and ensuring they are

implemented and reviewed regularly

‘HELLO YELLOW’ DAY On Friday, 8th October, we will be taking part in the ‘Hello Yellow’ campaign to raise funds for the Young Minds charity and help raise awareness of mental health. Children can come to school dressed in yellow and con-tribute £1 to the Young Minds charity, which carries out vital work around children’s mental health issues. Throughout the day, children will take part in a Hello Yellow assembly, which talks about mental health in an age-appropriate way.
