I hope to be able to talk about a further strengthening of support for our students in the coming months. See you all tonight at the swimming carnival, I would like to put out the challenge to see if we can get a few community teams to take on the students and staff in the relays! Good luck to all our competitors.

Week two and the anticipation of a fabulous swimming carnival kicks off this newsletter. Menindee

Central School students have demonstrated their sporting prowess in all forms of sport and I for one

can’t wait to see our “Superfish” at work in the pool this evening! It would be great to see families

and spectators there to cheer on the swimmers, don’t forget to bring the cossies for the

community/staff/student house relay!

I must thank Petrina and the staff at Red Sands Takeaway for their assistance in providing recess and

lunch order while we go through the process of appointing a canteen operator, we should have

some news soon.

At our recent meeting, the School Reference Group (SRG) has again ratified the decision to support

families with the purchase of a school shirt for every student enrolled at Menindee Central. The

shirts have been ordered and will be available shortly. The normal school uniform shirt will still

apply, yellow for primary and white for secondary, this simply provides an alternative that carrys the

school colours on a modern design. It will be expected that students travelling on a school excursion

or representing the school will wear the school shirt.

The SRG also looked at the options for a jumper for winter, we will survey families about design and

style later this term. While there is still a bit of heat about, we would like to remind families to send

students along with a hat. Staff conducting outdoors activities with students and while on

playground duty have been reminding students of the need to be sun-safe. A re-worked ‘No Hat, No

Play’ policy will be out for consultation shortly.

This week, I will be hosting Dr Michele Bruniges, DEC Secretary and Michele Hall, Executive Director

–Connected Communities. We will be discussing the progress of the Connected Community Strategy

in Menindee and our future plans. Part of our focus this term is the finalisation of our schools

strategic plan for the next 3 years and we plan to hold a number of forums this term to ensure their

opportunity for input from as wide a section of our community as we can.

We have made great steps forward with our health and wellbeing partners and have managed to

broker some fantastic outcomes for students. Our Interagency Team will be meeting for the first

time next week to discuss goals for the year. I hope to be able to talk about a further strengthening

of support for our students in the coming months.

See you all tonight at the swimming carnival, I would like to put out the challenge to see if we can

get a few community teams to take on the students and staff in the relays! Good luck to all our

competitors.

Dear Students & Art Teacher,

I am writing to compliment the students who painted the wonderful art work which I

saw recently at the Maitland Art Gallery. The vibrancy, colours and themes of the

painting were a joy to see and a great credit to the students and staff of your school.

I could feel the heat and see the earth and rocks of your outback environment.

I live in Sydney but shall retain the memories of the Menindee Central School artist

and their work. So thank you, congratulations and keep on painting.

Welcome back to a new year, we hope everybody had an enjoyable Christmas and a restful break. It was great

to see the excited children start preschool last week, we also welcomed back many familiar families from last

year. We have had good reports that our past preschoolers who are taking that big step forward and starting

kindergarten are enjoying big school life and settling nicely; we wish them the best for their big school learning

journey.

There are still vacancies at the preschool for children aged 2- 4 years old. If you are interested in enrolling your

child please contact the staff at the Centre. Families are encouraged and welcome to stay as long as they want,

until you feel your child is settled and happy to stay. Starting preschool is very different for each and every child

and family.

ALL families with children enrolling need to provide the following before children can start at preschool for

2015

Updated Enrolment form – Fully complete.

A copy of your child’s Birth Certificate.

Immunisation History Statement - This is LAW, not just a Centre policy, further information can be accessed from http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/medicare/australian -childhood-immunisation-register or by ringing Medicare Immunisation Register on 1800 653 809.

Updated School Bus Permission note- Listing the people who are authorised to collect your child from the

school bus. PLEASE REMEMBER, if there is not an authorised person AT THE DESIGNATED BUS

STOPS to collect your child FROM the bus, they will be taken back to preschool and it will be the parent’s

responsibility to promptly collect them, this is for your child’s safety.

If your child has any allergies / Asthma / illnesses they MUST have a current Action Plan, as per our Regula-tions, please ensure this is discussed with staff.

Preschool finished in term 4, 2014 with the understanding that we had an Early Childhood Teacher / Director

to replace Hayley, unfortunately this did not eventuate as the applicant declined the position. We will be adver-

tising the position again ASAP but in the meantime we have had to make some temporary changes to ensure

the preschool doors remain open, ready for all our little friends to come and play and learn! The educator team

will consist of Shannon, Casey, Pearl & Marissa, and Hayley will work with the staff weekly, via phone and

email to support and visit when possible, for term one.

There have had to be changes to the days of preschool operation for term 1, 2015 and they are as fol-

lows;

Four year old children who will attend big school in 2016 are offered full days (or half days) on Monday,

Tuesday, Wednesday and EVERY SECOND THURSDAY AT THE PRESCHOOL, NOT at the big school

for term 1 2015. This will give all children the time to settle back into the preschool routine without having the

extra challenges that the big school environment can sometimes have for our littlies. Therefore, Preschool for

four year olds will be run at the Centre on-

Thursday 5th & 19th February,

Thursday 5th & 19th March and

Thursday 2nd April 2015. A calendar will be sent home for all families.

Three year old children are offered Monday and Wednesday, full days (or half days) depending on your

child’s needs.

Two year old children are offered one half day on Tuesday mornings.

Finally, ALL children families and visitors coming to the preschool are asked to please use the NEW pre-

school gates, located across the road from the State Water office, in Candilla Street. This entrance is ready to

use and is a much safer way for everybody to access the Centre.

Looking forward to a great term!

Until Next Week,

Shannon, Casey, Pearl, Marissa &

Hayley
