From the Deputy Principal’s Desk

District Cross Country

Last Wednesday Mr. Koole and his band of helpers took 40 children to represent the school

at the district cross country which was run at Trueman’s Road. They had perfect weather

and all of the children should be proud of the way they represented the school. 8 of our

athletes finished in the top 10 and now go on to compete at divisional level against children

who have also gone through in their districts. It is a big step up and we wish them all well

and know that they will give their best. It has been great to see so many at running club and

once again a big thanks to Mr. Koole for all of his organisation and encouragement.

Cybersafety

This week I was able to work with some Grade 4 classes in cybersafety. I was very

impressed with their knowledge and their maturity in discussing behaviours and ways to

keep ourselves safe online. We made some posters to remind us about some ways to keep

ourselves safe when using online apps and websites.

These tips apply for everyone and one of the wondering questions

the children came up with was:

Why do children under 13 have social media access to such applications as

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and so on when they actually have age restrictions?

Maybe this can prompt your own discussions at home with children about being safe online.

Here are some of the 4DC tips: -Everything you do online can be traced -Don’t share personal information -Always have an adult’s permission and supervision when online. -If you feel uncomfortable about anything you see or read TELL AN ADULT. -Many apps have age ratings, this is for a reason and it is considered fraud to lie about your age. -Never photograph someone without permission and don’t post school uniform photos online.

The answer to our last maths problem was – 10.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA - ROSEBUD - PARISH MASS TIMES

Weekdays: 9:30am Saturday: 9:30am & 5.30pm Sunday: 8.00am & 9.30am

INDONESIAN UPDATE.....Thank you to all the families who donated recycled materials

for us to make games and activities in Indonesian. The Year two and three students really enjoyed

creating their own ball-toss game from recycled milk cartons and other materials, and they were

excited to take the game home and share it with their families! Students from Foundation to Year

three have also loved learning the Indonesian game ‘Semut, Orang, Gajah’ (the Indonesian version of

‘Rock, Paper, Scissors). The students are doing some great work learning about the similarities and

differences between the way that children play in Australia and around the world, and making some

insightful observations about how they can have lots of fun, without lots of fancy or expensive things!

Well done everyone! - Ibu Barnett.

LIBRARY - help needed

Our school has purchased many new books for our classrooms. We would like some help to

stamp, tape and label the books over the next few weeks as they arrive from the bookshop, so

the books can get to the classrooms as soon as possible. If you are able to help for an hour or

two any morning, could you please email Bronwyn Keane to let her know which day you could

help? [email protected] Any help will be most appreciated!

a logo for the fair. We have had lots of entries returned to the office . Its not too late to submit your

entry. If you have lost your entry form please ask at the office for another one.

‘Back to School’ savings tips: Ask your school for an expenses list to see if you can pay for any costs via instalments, such

as school camps and excursions. Buy second-hand textbooks and uniforms. Develop a budget and do your research to find the best “back to school” bargains. Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) www.education.vic.gov.au/csef is available to families on lower incomes to help with school costs

Saver Plus gives local families incentive to save - Jenny’s story

With a ten-year-old daughter and high school a few years away, Jenny

saw a need for a new computer and an improved savings habit. At first,

the prospect of saving regularly was daunting after hearing about the

Saver Plus program well before she actually joined in 2010.

“At first I was scared of committing to putting money away because I

couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. A few years later I

said ‘I need to do this’,” she said. When Jenny joined Saver Plus she

didn’t think too far ahead, but has now developed a savings habit that

has continued well after she completed the program.

“I feel more secure and I have more confidence in myself too. I got a

lot of satisfaction from saving for a new computer. I’d never really saved for anything before.”

To find out more about Saver Plus call or sms 1300 610 355 or email [email protected] .
