    INTRODUCTION

    Data corp. Enterprise, a software house is expending. A new budget has been approved and a newbranch should be operational by the end of December 2012. As a manager in the infrastructure

    Department, i need to conduct an analysis in purchasing the following items for the new branch.

    A) 2 server for local use and 1 server for remote use.

    B) 20 desktop and 10 laptop

    C) Peripheral devices

    D) Smartphone

    In the software house there are 3 major role, software designer/programmer who create the

    technical specification and write the software, business analyst who define the business needs of the

    market and software tester who are responsible for the whole process of quality management. I also

    include one more specialization in this new branch which is Graphic designer because they

    are responsible for the design of the graphical user interface.

    In a software house the most time will be on the testing of the product. So in testing and

    programming the worker is more than the analyst considering the time management. The desktop

    and laptop will be divided according to these sub teams. So in order to purchase server, desktop and

    laptop we need to consider the work specification and the specialization of each of the employee.

    There is 20 employee hired for the new branch which consists of these 3 team. So I divide the choiceof the laptop and desktop according to their role. There is 20 desktop and 10 laptop to consider. The

    peripherals devices purchased also for the basic use in office work and there will be a token of

    appreciation, so a Smartphone will be given to each employee.

    Assalamualaikum

    First of all, I would like to impress the gratefulness of how we feel because finally we are manage to

    complete and finish doing our second assignment of CPT 13 Computer Organisation. Well, as we all

    know, this assignment is very important to us since the marks will be taken and calculate based on

    the achievement of this assignment for the final result.

    DISCUSSION

    serverI choose a tower type server because it suitable for 1-75 workers and the server features a clean,

    logical layout of components and power supply placement for quick installation and simplified

    deployment. This server also can run both as a local use and as a remote use.

    Since this software house consists of running heavy application and graphics also Video or audio files

    can take up much more room than other kinds of data and tend to proliferate quickly. So the server

    must have large capacity of storage. Management With up to 16 hard drives and up to 144GB of

    memory, the server is ideal for large capacity computing. Configuration from the front of the server.

    For remote management, the base server offers an embedded Express card, which shares the first

    network port to provide web browser access to the server. This fits into a proprietary socket on the

    motherboard and presents a dedicated network management port at the rear.

    With Intel Xeon E5600,Intel Xeon L5600 and Intel Xeon X5600 as compatible processors the Data

    center design for cloud computing solutions includes unified networking with 10 gigabit Ethernet,

    cloud storage, trusted computing, and power management. Performance boosts to 80% and reduce

    I/O network latency which give faster access to network.

    desktopFor the business analyst the type of desktop I choose was for business purpose desktop. Since the

    dual-processor is suitable for such task with Intel Core i5 i5-650 / 3.2 GHz as the processor. Well-run

    software houses possess various systems and procedures implemented and working internally

    across all the sub-teams. For business analyst the modelling tool was for conducting management of

    the business. It requires less storage than consumer PCs so I choose less RAM for the desktop. And

    the operating system is either Microsoft Windows 7 Professional / XP both suitable for office task

    and itwill have business features. Hard drive is where the data is stored, so I choose5000.0 GB, with

    7200.0 rpm so it has suitable storage capacity and data retrieve speed.

    The desktop both the programmer and testers will conduct heavy task such as coding, bug tracking,

    antivirus and software versioning. The suitable desktop for such tasks will be the workstation type. It

    offered higher performance than normal desktop computer. The type of processor suitable for this

    task is Intel Xeon, W3565 / 3.2 GHz. Many multicore processors are composed of two separate dies,

    which means some cached data has to travel outside the processor to get from core to core. Thats

    an inefficient way to access information. Enter the Quad-Core and 6-Core Intel Xeon processors.

    Their single-die, 64-bit architecture makes 8MB or 12MB of fully shared L3 cache readily available to

    each of the processor cores. The result is fast access to cache data and greater application

    Finally for the graphic designer the purchase desktop will require large RAM and storage. Intel i7-

    980X processor Works great with graphic software such as adobe suite and autodesk max, maya and

    rhinoceros. Because it is proofed a faster processor. If you're doing a lot of video editing or

    transcoding, or spending hours with Adobe's Creative Suite or other fully threaded, multi-core-aware

    programs, the Core i7-980X is clearly a class-leading CPU.Intel Core i7 processors deliver top-of-the-

    line performance for your All-in-One or Standard PC. Intel Core i7 processors keep up with your most

    demanding tasks for a difference you can see and feel in HD or 3D, multitasking or multimedia. The

    Intel Core i7 processors include advanced technologies that deliver faster, smoother, and richer PC

    and visual experiences for all of your favorite, demanding activitiesfrom editing film to mind-

    blowing gaming. Graphic designer also need graphic feature. The Discrete graphics cards continue to

    provide significantly higher performance than most integrated graphics solutions and for graphics

    creation you will need something like an nVidia Quadro NVS 285, Dual DVI or Dual VGA Capable.

    VIDIA Quadro NVS 285 is dual-head graphics card that delivers next-generation multi-display

    capabilities to professional 2D and 3D gaming applications. Since running media and graphicapplication need a lot of space so the desktop must have large storage. So I choose 2TB with 7200

    rpm hard drive.

    laptopFor laptop also the same. Business laptop specifications are lesser than both other laptop to

    purchase since it need much lesser requirement. Common applications like Office, Internet and

    communication applications are pretty easy tasks for the laptop and only load the notebook

    minimally considering the Intel Core i3 processor and RAM. Even image editing, spreadsheets or

    converting files to different formats are no problem for the system and can be assigned such use-

    cases without hesitation. So it was quite suitable for office and business use. A conventional 750GBhard disk from Western Digital is used as the primary storage device with 7200rpm drive. I also

    choose minimal features on solid connectivity options that should cover most use-cases.but, it does

    not feature an eSATA port or an ExpressCard slot. VGA and HDMI connect to external analog and

    digital monitors and TVs respectively. The three USB 3.0 ports are new and now provide fast data

    transfer to external storage peripherals such as hard disks (129 MB/s sequential read). A powered

    USB 2.0 port which enables charging of external devices even when the notebook is off, is also

    onboard again it combined audio jack significantly restricts the choice of headsets with separate

    jacks and prevents the further use of existing peripherals that have two separate inputs.

    The tester and programmer need a powerful laptop which require a large capacity and processorspeed. They also need a security within the application so I choose Mac OS X as the operating system

    and a desktop replacement type. The Mac OS X Leopard operating system let's it also use the

    Windows operatings system via the official Boot Camp release. This is great for designers needed to

    work or test in both environments. It Equipped with a 2.3GHz Intel Core i7-3610Quad-Core

    processor, the maximum 8GB of RAM, a 750GB hard drive, and nVidia's new top-of-the-line

    notebook graphics card, Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M. The processor was the

    3rd generation from Intel that enables multitasking and with 8GB RAM the laptop could performed

    better and faster for running difficult task and heavy application.

    For the graphic designer, the purchased laptops also need to be fast and have large capacity of

    storage. As we know the graphic designer work mainly involved with multimedia task, video, 3D

    graphics and etc. Which require a fast processor so that multitask could occur. Same as the

    programmer and tester the laptop consists of 3rd Generation Intel Core which gives incredible

    performance paired with stunning visuals. The Intel Core i7 processors, with quad-core power, allow

    you to breeze through demanding tasks like archiving your high-resolution photos, building your

    audio library, or rendering a multilayered image file.

    The brand-new Core i7-3920XM Extreme Edition, featuring the all-new Ivy Bridge microarchitecture.

    This quad-core, among the first CPUs to feature Intels 3D Tri-Gate transistors leaves the factory

    running at 2.9GHz, with a Max Turbo frequency of 4.5GHz. The machine is outfitted with 16GB

    Peripherals devices.In computing, a printer is a peripheral which produces a hard copy (permanent readable text

    paper or transparencies. Many printers are primarily used as local peripherals, and are attached by a

    printer cable or, in most newer printers, a USB cable to a computer which serves as a document

    source. Some printers, commonly known as network printers, have built-in network interfaces

    (typically wireless and/or Ethernet), and can serve as a hardcopy device for any user on the network.

    Individual printers are often designed to support both local and network connected users at the

    same time. In addition, a few modern printers can directly interface to electronic media such as

    In computing, a mouse is a pointing device that functions by detecting two-dimensional motion

    relative to its supporting surface. Physically, a mouse consists of an object held under one of the

    user's hands, with one or more buttons.

    The mouse sometimes features other elements, such as "wheels", which allow the user to perform

    various system-dependent operations, or extra buttons or features that can add more control or

    dimensional input. The mouse's motion typically translates into the motion of a pointer on a display,

    which allows for fine control of a graphical user interface.

    Since mouse is very important and needed while we are using computers, so we decide to choose

    a wireless mouse as a peripheral devices in our company. We use wireless device because it is easy

    to use and carry out everywhere we go.

    smartphoneAnd As a token of appreciation, a Smartphone will be given to each employee in our company. Let

    me briefing a little bit about what is smartphone. A smartphone is a mobile phone built on a mobileoperating system, with more advanced computing capability and connectivity than a feature phone.

    The first smartphones combined the functions of a personal digital assistant (PDA) with a mobile

    phone. Later models added the functionality of portable media players, low-end compact digital

    cameras, pocket video cameras, and GPS navigation units to form one multi-use device. Modern

    smartphones also include high-resolution touchscreens and web browsers that display standard web

    pages as well as mobile-optimized sites. High-speed data access is provided by Wi-Fi and Mobile

    Broadband. The most common mobile operating systems (OS) used by modern smartphones include

    Google's Android, Apple's iOS, Nokia's Symbian, RIM's BlackBerry OS, Samsung's Bada, Microsoft's

    Windows Phone, Hewlett-Packard's webOS, and embedded Linux distributions such as Maemo and

    MeeGo. So our company have decided to choose iphone 5 to give away to our 20 employee.

    CONCLUSION

    As a conclusion, the analysis was to provide the suitable item to purchase for the new Data

    corp. branch. The data was collected from many resources in order to make analysis for the

    suitable purchased item for the new software house branch. The server purchased was atower type, it is suitable for a small business with less than 75 number of employee. And the

    server can be local use and remote use as it will connect to the other computer via the

    Ethernet ports and connect to the networks. The desktop and laptop was purchased with

    specification on the work specialization which is divided by business analyst,

    programmer/designer and graphic designer. These 3 have some different in choices of

    hardware specification as well as the operating system according to the diffenrent in each

    work tasks. The peripherals devices was purchased for the basic office use as mouse and

    printer/scanner and the smartphone was chosen for the employee as the token of

    appreciation was iphone 5.
